Anyone else think M&S have upped their game?

I'm not sure if it's because I recently turned 40 or if M&S have improved their womens clothing?! Lately I've found so many great work clothes in there, I have their fine knit jumper in every colour, their wide leg black lined trousers and even the jeans are a great fit for me.

I also recently got some beige tailored trousers and there is so much on the website I like the look of.

I used to hate M&S clothes but maybe it's now my age and tastes changing?!

They really have. My 29yo DD and some of her work colleagues have been buying a lot from there recently. The stuff seems to be good basics in colours you want to wear with a few nice bits and pieces too. They seem to have suddenly realised they are one of the last high street shops and need to cater for all ages.

debbrianna · 15/05/2022 18:45

It's becuase they are now housing dying highstreet brands. Interestingly, M&S has done what Next has done. One has upped their quality while the other has gone downhill.

CaliforniaDrumming · 15/05/2022 18:49

Yes! Especially in the wide leg trousers department. I have several of those. And some of the summer blouses look nice, though none of them are ever in store. On the negative side, their stores are just full of nasty frilly viscose dresses with massive collars.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/05/2022 18:50

I still really rate them for jeans.

I bought a nice cotton dress there yesterday too.

Generally though, I still think fabrics and colours are poor and necklines too high. Also too many frills and billowing sleeves.

Nitgel · 15/05/2022 18:52

Agree, this year I have bought a bomber jacket two midi dresses and two midi skirts, all reasonable prices and good materials.

Crimsonripple · 15/05/2022 18:53

I've just kitted out most of my new office attire from M&S. It feels and looks really stylish. I bought a pair of wide leg elasticated trousers - love them! So comfy for work!

CaliforniaDrumming · 15/05/2022 18:54

Some of their summer tees caught my eye but they turned out to be a 100% polyester. Fail.

PrincessRamone · 15/05/2022 19:08

I think they are getting better online, but in-store is awful. Cheaper ranges, poor choice of sizes, fitting rooms either closed or staffed by men, and very few staff generally.

I went in last week and did buy 3 things but couldn’t try them on and when I got them home the fit isn’t right. I have ordered them for home delivery in different sizes but now have to make a 60 mile round trip to take them back to the store.

buckleten · 15/05/2022 19:11

They have some great stuff at the moment! Though not so much in shoes..

EvelynBeatrice · 15/05/2022 19:15

Yes! I have bought several things recently. All cotton or at least decent fabric. A tomato red cotton cheesecloth dress - lovely and soft and flattering; a cream collared cardigan and white lily slim fit jeans. A coral top. All great. Sizing remains random. Pair of white jeans ordered bore no resemblance to sizing of same sized pair in store!

Libertybear80 · 15/05/2022 19:15

I ordered some plain black work trousers thinking they had upped their game. Nope they are still shit! Back to Jigsaw.

wakeupandshakeup · 15/05/2022 19:16

Interesting, I was heading to Next for some workwear.. I'll look in M&S first!

Oh I dunno. I've just bought some flat ballet type shoes in three colours - I had them in black and they were so useful and comfortable for work that I bought them in three more colours. They're not going to win any awards for innovation - but you can't really go wrong with a comfortable ballet flat.

Riverlee · 15/05/2022 19:24

Definitely upped their game.

CuriousCatfish · 15/05/2022 19:27

Their jeggings are the best I've ever bought. They have recently gone up in price though, but I still rate them.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/05/2022 19:30

I love their shoes ( I don't wear leather ) they have a good range of vegan shoes , often (but not always) half-sizes . I have narrow feet and find they suit me
Love the jeggings .
I have jeans but not worn them yet .

I bought some holiday clothes , loved them.
My work clothes are scrubs but I wear leggings/top to go to/from work in.

They are giving more choice with underwear and less sequins'n'frill
Though I did like the Indigo range , now gone Sad

anywhichwaytoo · 15/05/2022 19:30

Another one saying yes! I was in one of their big stores recently, admittedly only to use to loos 😅, but was shocked and pleasantly surprised to see how much nice stuff they have, and great for kids stuff too! I picked up a couple of jumpers for DH, they were lovely and v reasonably priced.

Ladyofthepeonies · 15/05/2022 19:31

Completely agreed. My only complaint is their petite stuff has definitely got longer. Too long for me in anything but jeggings

I have 4 pairs!

One denim and 3 dark colours and they are fab for work (smart/casual)

Can wear with loafers or boots.

I agree they have lovely stuff.

DecentPleasant · 15/05/2022 19:34

I agree. Found an Instagram bod a few weeks ago

who did a video of a pile of things. Was so helpful. Hate the trying on phase. I’ve had some nice dresses, like the midaxi length.

userxx · 15/05/2022 19:36

Yes, I've bought a number of things in the past year.

Hobbes8 · 15/05/2022 19:37

wait…tell me more about this fine knit jumper?

orangeisthenewpuce · 15/05/2022 19:38

I've always shopped their but recently I've bought a lot more than I usually would. I think they have some great stuff at the moment. Their marketing dept have really upped their game lately as well, especially on fb.

orangeisthenewpuce · 15/05/2022 19:38

I will tell you to check the stitching beside the neck, be careful not to catch it on anything, and wash it very gently.
