Dress

I kinda love it but appreciate that many might think it's heinous 🤣. Have seen it on a few people on Instagram and it looks lovely. Cotton as well.

Have bought and will try on but it could go either way.

It's horrendous. My grandma had tea towels that looked a bit like this. The shape is awful. The length is exactly wrong. The neckline is ugly. The sleeves are painful to look at. Just no.

Headabovetheparakeet · 05/05/2022 19:37

Nay but I'd love a skirt in that material.

whiteroseredrose · 05/05/2022 19:38

I like it. But I am 56!

They do it in a skirt!

Throughthesquarewindow · 05/05/2022 19:42

I adore all things 70s so it's a yes from me, although I couldn't wear it myself. It would hang off my massive knockers and make me look 8 months pregnant.

It would have been my dream maternity wear.

gothereagain · 05/05/2022 20:07

I absolutely love it, but I remember the print from my band bedspreads and I like the style, it suits me.

I might buy it!

Attictroll · 05/05/2022 20:11

Saw it liked it didn't buy it as it wouldn't suit me 😊

BonjourCrisette · 05/05/2022 20:18

I love it! The square neckline is really nice and I absolutely love the 70s print. I don't wear white or pale colours or I would be seriously tempted.

Thesheerrelief · 06/05/2022 08:14

I love it and have just ordered it because of this thread. I am a child of the 80s who grew up with orange-patterned curtains, wallpaper and bedspreads! I love a pattern

Starseeking · 06/05/2022 10:05

No, it looks like a maternity dress. Fine if your pregnant, but if not, even if you have the flattest of stomachs, be prepared for lots of people enquiring when it's due!

IheartJKRowling · 06/05/2022 11:25

I daw that dress in Sainsbury's yesterday and it's actually lovely.

Those photographs don't do it justice because it's brighter and the fabric is really good for the price point.

I liked it so much I ordered it online as they only had a size 10 in store. I'm not sure the style will suit me (comically large chest) but I wanted to try it.

I have never bought clothing from Sainsbury's but I was generally impressed with their range and prices. I love vintage clothing and wear it a lot and the dress definitely has that 70's vintage vibe.

LowbrowVictoriana · 06/05/2022 13:33

I'm far too old for a dress like that but I think it will look nice on a younger woman on the slim side. 🤣

I'm 53 and a size 18, so it's going to look fabulous on me! Maybe I'll upload a photo of me wearing it when it arrives!

PortiaFimbriata · 06/05/2022 13:41

I think it's ducking hideous (autocorrect accepted but you known what I mean) but it's moderately priced, practical and easy to wear so if you love it then wear it.

Actually I love a square neckline, so I'm slightly tempted to get it and a packet of emerald green Dylon machine dye - then the only thing wrong with it would be the shape.

PortiaFimbriata · 06/05/2022 13:43

Does anyone remember the "school run dress" threads from the days when cheap midaxi dresses were much rarer than they are today?

This would be manna from heaven on those threads.

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 06/05/2022 13:45

I love it, have just ordered it 😂

But I wasn't around in the 70s so don't have pattern trauma.

I am neither tall nor slim but for some reason can usually get away with wafty voluminous summer dresses, am actually wearing something fairly similar today... Will see how it looks when it arrives!

Mischance · 06/05/2022 13:45

That sure is 70s!

The sort of dress we used to call "Pitsea Market"

BigDayToday · 06/05/2022 14:08

I love it! That colour would look dreadful on me unfortunately but the dress is great!

notawittyname1954 · 06/05/2022 15:49

My daughter has just received this dress and it looks lovely on her. Villanelle meets Jane Austen. The more I look at it the more I like it. She says it is nicer in person that in the pic too. @Omgwhatthehell apparently it is good if you are breastfeeding too

MayBeee · 06/05/2022 15:52

It's lovely and wafty . I think only a tallish person could pull off the look.

Frumpypigskin · 06/05/2022 15:58

Love it! You don't need to be tall and willowy, you just need to have confidence and you will rock it.

TabithaTittlemouse · 06/05/2022 15:58

I really really like it

Somanysocks · 06/05/2022 16:14

People are saying 70s like it's a bad thing.

WonderingWanda · 06/05/2022 16:16

It would look dreadful on me and I'm not convinced it does the model any favours. However, I can see someone young and scandinavian looking with wavy white blond hair running through a meadow in it.

Oh you have convinced me! @notawittyname1954
I just showed it to DH who said "Oh that's cute. Although that print looks almost identical to a 70's duvet cover my parents used to have" Grin

I'm 5 foot 3 and a bit so am going to go with a petite size which is 44" from shoulder to hem. I think the full length at 47" shoulder to hem will be too long.

Staffy1 · 06/05/2022 16:29

No! How has this old-fashioned nightwear (or nightmare) look become the in thing?
