SOTD was Miller Harris Tea Tonique, SOTE will be Angels’ Share.

I'm really enjoying the fluffy lemon top today...buttery narcissus and orris 😍

I adore Fluffy Lemon Top too, but you're getting different things to me from it. I get lemony woody musk. Must sniff harder to see what else is in there!

This evening I've got Court of Ravens on one wrist (really love this one) and the gorgeous, blackcurranty Rosa Ribes on the other. I had Red Queen on earlier, it's nice but faded a bit too quickly.

@FestivelyScent I get you on Jicky - the opening is great but the civety dry down is too much for me. I only have a tiny decant of it and try it every so often.

@MissBattleaxe I like the sound of Rosa di Rio, I must look out for it.

OneLittleLady · 18/05/2022 23:07

SOTN - Mancera Velvet Vanilla. nice and comfy, like a bed made of birthday cake!

OneLittleLady · 18/05/2022 23:08

also, been ill again, tonsillitis this time so again, just been sleeping mainly! well, inbetween antibitoic does!

FestivelyScent · 19/05/2022 00:04

We are having thunderstorms!

@DramaAlpaca I had been hankering after the original Yardley's English Lavender water (not the reformulated thing they sell in Boots), found some Jicky and thought that would be a great substitute. Well, my attempt to go classy with lavender has failed - Jicky is not filling the gap. I will be returning to old lady lavender! 😂

Feel better soon @OneLittleLady You are having a tough time of it. 💐

SOTD is Hypnotic Poison. I can't smell it! And when I do get whiffs it smells like my chemist's and toothpaste. 🙃

FestivelyScent · 19/05/2022 00:05

SOTN that should read.

Bretonbear · 19/05/2022 06:12

What are your thoughts on the Lush perfumes?

MissBattleaxe · 19/05/2022 06:55

@Bretonbear they're all so different but generally good stuff. Was there a particular one you were wondering about?

ChiswickFlo · 19/05/2022 07:28

Imo there are much better perfumes around. The lush perfumes are all pretty basic.

I really enjoyed wearing 4160tuesdays FLT yesterday but it's gone a bit grey here again so sotd abbey perfumery joe smooth (coffee, jasmine, vanilla)

I've heard people rave about them so was just interested to see of any expert perfume noses on here had any recommendations.

ChiswickFlo · 19/05/2022 07:37

Just an enthusiastic amateur here 🙂

Look up 4160tuesdays. They do sample sets to try with a voucher OR book co written by our very own @MissBattleaxe !!! 🙂

For anyone who loves lavender, have you tried anything from Norfolk Lavender? Their pillow spray is gorgeous, there are lots of body creams etc. and I think they do a cologne too.

MissBattleaxe · 19/05/2022 08:29

@Bretonbear I've been a perfume blogger for nearly ten years now and I would recommend LUSH overall, although some of their collections have had perfumes I really didn't like at all, but that doesn't mean they are bad, just not my cup of tea.

Among the ones I consider to be excellent are Karma, Orange Blossom, Confetti, Rose Jam, Frangipani, Sappho, Cardamom Coffee and my all time favourite, Pansy.

Your taste may differ, but they also do a rather nice discovery pack containing 5 x 10ml scents which is a good starting point!

@ChiswickFlo has kindly recommended the book I co authored with Sarah McCartney (of 4160 Tuesdays) it's called The Perfume Companion.

CorneliaStreet · 19/05/2022 09:41

I’ve got your book, MissBattleaxe, it’s great. Not so great for my bank balance though, makes me want to buy everything!

ChiswickFlo · 19/05/2022 11:07

I've ordered a 30ml of gallivant Istanbul 🙂

OP posts:
CorneliaStreet · 19/05/2022 11:23

Good choice 🙂

MissBattleaxe · 19/05/2022 11:47

@PutinIsAWarCriminal If you like orange blossom/neroli try Karen Timson Hera. It's the best orange flower scent I've ever tried. You'll have to google Karen Timson Fine Fragrance as I can't post url links. It's a tiny little company that deserves more recognition.

MissBattleaxe · 19/05/2022 11:48

@CorneliaStreet I'm so thrilled you've got The Perfume Companion! There are some cheap and cheerfuls in there, we made sure of that. I think the cheapest is Impulse Hint of Musk for a mere quid.

musicmum75 · 19/05/2022 12:10

@Cantonet thanks for the tip about Drôle de Rose as a winter perfume. I had never thought of it that way. I will try that next winter.

@Bretonbear I think a lot of the Lush perfumes are great. I love Lord of Misrule, Shade, Pansy and Junk.

Sotd is 4160Tuesdays Lemon Sherbet. Smells lovely but disappears so quickly.

Try 4160tuesdays fluffy lemon top 🍋
It's got stonking staying power on me...

OP posts:
DramaAlpaca · 19/05/2022 13:25

I second the staying power of Fluffy Lemon Top. It's my SOTD.

musicmum75 · 19/05/2022 13:32

Thanks @DramaAlpaca and @ChiswickFlo. Yes I have Fluffy Lemon Top too and agree it's nicer and had more staying power.

ChiswickFlo · 19/05/2022 13:35

I do like lemon sherbert (and have a bottle) but it doesn't last as long as FLT.

I'm eagerly awaiting @FestivelyScent reviews of her 4160tuesdays samples!

OP posts:
FestivelyScent · 19/05/2022 17:35

@ChiswickFlo Eeek... They've arrived! And they look so cute in their coloured tissue papers. I received Dancing with Strangers and Oakmossery as freebies, too. 😁

Will sniff later this evening as am just getting over a migraine. Thank you very much to everyone who helped me choose my samples - I can't wait to get stuck in! 😊

gingerjones · 19/05/2022 18:31

MissBattleaxe I love that you have co-authored a book about perfume, sounds divine!

Do you recommend any of the zara perfumes and are they just dupes of others? So many youtube fragheads Talk about zara but I haven't had a chance to try any yet.

Ps I have also written and self published a book!! Mine has quite a dark theme. Must be wonderful writing about fragrance I will take a look!!

Sotd mon guerlain edt.
