DramaAlpaca I really want to try all of them...

ChiswickFlo hope you don't suffer too badly today.

This thread is great because it reminds you to wear a different sotd every day! So sotd is D&G Dolce Shine. I wasn't sure about this one to begin with but it's growing on me.

CorneliaStreet · 16/05/2022 09:50

Back from a few days in Spain with friends, it was great, warm and sunny but not too hot, lots of eating and drinking. Bit of a contrast today, back at work and grey and raining here.

They had testers out for everything in duty free at both airports, so I had fun trying loads of different things. My favourites were some of the Hermes, particularly Un Jardin sur la Lagune and Jour d'Hermes. I also liked Un Jardin sur le Nil - it is very green at first but settles down beautifully. I wanted to smell Dune for old times sake as I wore it almost exclusively when I was a teenager, but they only had the pour homme version. I also wanted to try some old Guerlains, but they didn't have any Shalimar etc, just seemingly endless versions of Mon Guerlain.

Of the Replicas, By the Fireplace is the only one I love, but I also like Beach Walk. Lazy Sunday Morning and Bubble Bath are ok and Jazz Club is good too.

SOTD Gallivant Tel Aviv.

FestivelyScent · 16/05/2022 11:08

I've been dreading the return of humid, close weather @ChiswickFlo - I had terrible migraines all last summer. 😞 It rained all day here yesterday and is very grey atm. Think I will hide indoors today. Hope all migraine sufferers escape unscathed. 🤞

Spain sounds wonderful @CorneliaStreet

The only Replica scents I've tried are By the Fireplace, which I love, and Jazz Club, which smelled horrible on me - like burnt coconut. Am planning on testing Whispers in the Library soon, as it seems a thread favourite.

SOTN last night was Angel's Share. Didn't do anything very exciting yesterday, just watched the Jubilee Windsor thingy on TV. No SOTD as yet, might be something warming as its so grey.

FestivelyScent · 16/05/2022 13:26

I'm thinking of getting a 4160Ts sample set. They have so many perfumes on their website though I'm having trouble choosing the last three.

So far, the four I think I'll plump for are Captured by Candlelight, Shazam, Another Kiss by the Fireside, and Eau my Soul.

Any recommendations fragrant ones? I like Ambers, orientals, vanilla, lots of spices, powdery things, chypres and cosy-comforting things. 😊

ChiswickFlo · 16/05/2022 14:54

Amberama
Paris 1948

More choices btw!
I have all of those:)

OP posts:
ChiswickFlo · 16/05/2022 16:18

nice choices

FestivelyScent · 16/05/2022 17:49

Thanks @ChiswickFlo 😊 How could I have missed a perfume called Amberama? 😂

ChiswickFlo · 16/05/2022 17:53

I think you'll love it
Paris 1948 is a vintage chypre

OP posts:
CorneliaStreet · 16/05/2022 18:20

SOTE is Gallivant Gdansk. I absolutely love this, it’s warm and spicy and fruity and just all round gorgeous. It’s quite reminiscent of Angels’ Share actually but not as gourmand (that one smells of spiced apple compote to me). I only have a sample and I really, really want a bottle but I’ve already got one Gallivant (Tel Aviv) and not sure I can justify a second one. Or can I?!

ChiswickFlo · 16/05/2022 18:21

Dooooo iiiitttttt 🤣

OP posts:
DramaAlpaca · 16/05/2022 20:59

@FestivelyScent I think you'll like Eau My Soul, good choice.

Paris 1948 is too. It's a chypre, which I love, but just a bit too light and peachy for me personally.

I'm going to need a sample of Amberama, it sounds lush.

Court of Ravens is a rosy chypre, and Rosa Ribes is a fruity, blackcurranty, yummy chypre.

Dancing With Strangers is on my wrist right now, it's an old fashioned, velvety, violety, powdery, musky thing of beauty. Gorgeous.

I think you might like Tart's Knicker Drawer too, it's an Amber Floral and there are slight reminders in there of the warmth of Kenzo L'Elephant which I remember you like.

musicmum75 · 16/05/2022 22:46

Sotd is Vahina by Sylvaine Delacourt. This is one of my absolute faves. Orange blossom, osmanthus, vanilla and tonka. Just gorgeous. I also love her Valkyrie perfume.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 16/05/2022 23:33

SOTD JM Wild Bluebell.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 16/05/2022 23:37

Just to add, MMM Replica do a sample box - you can get it in John Lewis. I have full bottles of By the Fireplace, Jazz Club, Lazy Sunday Morning, and Whispers in the Library. I hanker after Beach Walk but it is very similar to TF Soleil Blanc which I also own, just a little bit sweeter.

FestivelyScent · 16/05/2022 23:56

Thanks @DramaAlpaca They all sound fabulous... 😊

I may have to get two sample sets at this rate because everything at 4160Ts sounds so wonderful, but I'll stick to the one atm. Orientals, Ambers and Chypres are definitely my thing, but I understand that several of Sarah Mc's perfumes share a signature sort of base, and I want to see if I get on with that first. I love the ethos etc of the brand though.

This is all very exciting... 😆

SOTD was Kouros. SOTN is Shalimar.

DramaAlpaca · 17/05/2022 00:26

You're welcome @FestivelyScent.

I'm trying Over The Chocolate Shop on my other wrist now. This one's an amber, gourmand, vanilla, coffee, chocolate thing - and I'm sorry to say I hate it 😂It's so not me.

I like old style chypres, green florals and if a fragrance is described as 'floral woody musk' it's almost guaranteed that I'll like it. Orientals wouldn't normally be my thing, with the notable exception of the wonderful Shalimar which is in my top five scents of all time.

ChiswickFlo · 17/05/2022 07:04

I love 4160tuesdays but there are several of hers I really don't like (not keen on otcs either @DramaAlpaca)

Lady monkey unicorn actually made me heave 🤢

But...3 of her perfumes are in my top 10 :)

I'm not sure she should always release everything she makes tbh. Some of them are very samey.

Anyway...hospital appointment today dp sotd will be 4160tuesdays SSOTPE

(I think you'd like this one too @FestivelyScent)

OP posts:
ChiswickFlo · 17/05/2022 07:08

Ah...floral woody musk. Yes. I usually like those!

I'm an amber/oriental/spicy/vanilla girl. I do have a couple of gourmands (like angels share) but I don't do florals, ozonic, marine or aquatic scents.

My idea of perfume hell is something like ck one or Estee lauder bronze goddess 🤢

peridito · 17/05/2022 09:52

Good morning friendly perfumistas ,could I ask for help in a quest to find a scent/perfume/handcream similar to a once beloved ?

It's Nantucket Briar by Crabtree and Evelyn
www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Crabtree-Evelyn/Nantucket-Briar-4938.html#:~:text=Nantucket%20Briar%20by%20Crabtree%20%26%20Evelyn,Briar%20was%20launched%20in%201985.
And it's really the handcream/body lotion I crave .I think it's the amber, the powder and the slightly spicy elements that appeal .I do like clean/soapy smells - Maja soap for instance !
www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Myrurgia/Maja-6233.html

I would really be grateful for any help though I know it's an almost impossible task - my interpretation of a fragrance could be completely different from another persons !

I guess this thread is more focussed on perfume so apologies if I'm highjacking .

IrisApfelRocks · 17/05/2022 11:11

One day of the week when I didn't have to wake up at 4 am and was so looking forward it, my daughter woke up at 4 am. So tired I could cry 😭😂

SOTD is Gucci Memoire d'une odeur... its perfect for this heat

MissBattleaxe · 17/05/2022 11:42

@peridito you are most welcome here and we always welcome questions. I just had a quick look at Fragrantica and according to readers, Nantucket Briar is similar to some real Golden Oldies: Cachet, White Shoulders and Jontue. Reviewers describe it was spicy, powdery vanilla.

I haven't smelled NB, but in my collection I have several spicy powdery fragrances and they are: 4160 Tuesdays Tart's Knicker Drawer (you can buy a sample set or a 15ml bottle) Gres Cabochard and Arpege. I don't know if this will help, but I hope so.

MissBattleaxe · 17/05/2022 11:42

By the way @DramaAlpaca your descriptions are spot on.

ChiswickFlo · 17/05/2022 11:50

I've got the remains of a 30ml bottle of 4160tuesdays tarts knicker drawer if you'd like to try it @FestivelyScent ?

OP posts:
musicmum75 · 17/05/2022 12:01

I don't have any suggestions @peridito but just wanted to say I love Nantucket Briar too. I still have a bottle. What a shame it was discontinued.
