Yesterday - Chanel gardenia for a special occasion (graduation) - had the most lovely time in London. DH bought me a Hermes scarf 😍

Hi everyone

I know there are a lot of 4160 Tuesdays wearers on here. For those who have a big perfume 'wardrobe', how do you think they compare in terms of quality to niche fragrance houses like Le Labo, Serge Lutens etc? And how about in comparison to more widely sold perfumes like Narciso Rodriguez, Guerlain et al?

The reason I ask is because the website is quite appealing to me and some of the scents sound fab from the descriptions. BUT I've found indie fragrance brands can be really hit and miss, especially if they have a big catalogue of scents. A while ago i got sucked in by the marketing of Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab but imo it is 100% marketing (the scents have wonderful descriptions and the limited releases builds hype). The quality of the actual scents imo was...bad. (don't think there are any fans on here...maybe it was just my skin that didn't respond well to the scents, but I do not have this problem with any scent sold in retail counters!)

I'm getting tempted by a few bottles but don't want to repeat the BPAL experience - it's just cos 4160 Tuesdays seem to release so many scents that I am a bit wary. Anyone got any words of comfort or warning?

Sorry to jump in with a provocative post! SOTD for me is an inoffensive citrus floral - Nuxe Prodigieux Floral. Too hot for many of my perfumes today as I tend to gravitate towards fairly heady musky/ambroxan concoctions.

Best advice is to get a discovery set
They are fabulous quality and quirky but depends on what you like...
She does tangy floral very well and spicy Amber's
I'd rather pay for hand made, hand poured ethical perfume than factory made flanker dross*

I don't think 4160tuesdays is a gimmick at all...the hide does exactly what it says it does bit I know what you mean...I don't "get" the hype about loads of houses, Le Labo included and its very disappointing to feel one had been "had" by clever marketing

I also find 4160Ts good quality @ferretface I do think they use high quality ingredients too; if they were a perfumer with huge distribution this would make them much more expensive. Like many houses their fragrances have a certain distinctive 'style' (at least the ones I've tried). I definitely didn't like all of the ones I tried (which is to be expected, of course) but I did have two standout favourites. As @Chevyimpala67 says, the only real way to know if you'd like them is to order a sample set. It's great value as you get 7 generous 2ml samples - which equals a few good goes of each.

Thanks for the thoughts on 4160Tuesdays - it's one of those things where I'm keen to like it! The two scents I'm particularly interested in are:

Captured By Candlelight because some reviewers compare it to Replica: By The Fireplace which I adore, I really find the scent so evocative of smoke in alpine valleys. I have By the Fireplace in my collection but always interested to find riffs on this type of scent.

Dancing with Strangers because it sounds right up my alley; musks, cosmetic scent, rose and violet...

I'll investigate if it's possible to get samples of these. Especially for Dancing with Strangers I am not too sure it's possible (maybe through visiting in person?)

I got my sample of Dancing with Strangers free from them when I ordered the sample set. @ferretface I'd be pretty sure you can include it as part of the sample set, but you could always email and ask. DWS is an uber powdery violet rose, resting on a delightful musk and vanilla base. It smells quite vintage imo.

Captured by Candlelight is smoky and woody, but with fruits if that helps as a description. The smokiness and woodyness is probably not as strong as it is in By the Fireplace.

I’ve just ordered and received the Perfume Parlour dupe for Jo Malone’s Peony etc. it doesn’t smell anything like the original… it’s a pleasant smell but nowhere near as fresh.

I really didn't get on with perfume parlour dupes they smelt a bit artifical and syrupy to me..I tried about 4 a year or two ago.

SOTD Flowerbomb because I was gardening today Unfortunately, I dropped the darned bottle and now the sprayer won't work, dammit.

The mmm btf, opium and angels share dupes are incredibly good imo
