@FestivelyScent it's actually next weekend but thanks for the advance best wishes Grin

CorneliaStreet · 30/05/2022 07:20

Hi @NelliesGoat

I second @DramaAlpaca ’s suggestion of the Hermes Jardins series. My favourites are Sur le Toit and Sur le Nil. Monsieur Li is the most citrusy.

Miller Harris Lumiere Doree is a lovely alternative to Neroli Portofino. Miller Harris also do a fresh fragrance called Tea Tonique and I love their Secret Gardenia (white flowers but light and fresh) as a daytime scent. Samples available from their website.

I recommend the Perfume Society for mixed samples. Their Eau So Fresh box is full of daytime scents, with plenty of citrus ones in there. Rouiller White is also good for samples.

CorneliaStreet · 30/05/2022 07:27

SOTD is Estée Lauder Tender Light. It is a tea/citrus scent and the longevity is great for a freshie, lasted a good eight hours plus on me yesterday.

NelliesGoat · 29/05/2022 22:58

Hello Perfumistas! I'm looking for some recommendations please.

In desperate need of a new daytime summer fragrance.
Over the years I've tried and liked lots, but have only ever loved two. A bit embarrassed to admit that I loved Light Blue and my other favourite for the past decade has been TF Portofino Neroli. I wore Zara Fleur d'Orangeur last summer and liked it, but it didn't last more than 30 minutes on me.
I need a change! I think the TF is hugely overpriced for the quality, and I DG Light Blue is too generic.

Others that I like:
Bulgari Au thé Vert (this is a bit of an outlier)
Floris Neroli Voyage
Floris Bergamotto di Positano (loved the fragrance but it only lasted about 20 minutes!)
Penhaligon's Castile ('borrowed' from DH!). Again poor longevity.

I'm happy to pay highly for something with great longevity and quality. Equally I would wear something relatively cheap if I loved it and it lasted.
I should add that I'm rural, WFH, and a long way from London so the fragrance needs to be accessible or samples available.

If you really love TF portfolio check out the perfume Parlour dupe? Supposed to be very good. You can also now get body care too.

Ah! I see @FestivelyScent got there before me :)

I'd really like to try gris Dior...have any of you tried it? I love their oud rosewood (the pp dupe is excellent)

I'm going to mums today where my aunt will be visiting. She's mad ad a box of frogs and horrible. I'm nearly 50 fgs and she still tells me I'm (*delete as applicable)
Too fat
Too thin
Hair is a mess
Hair is too long
Hair is too short
My skin looks bad
Ugh! (Practises smile amd wave in the mirror...)
I feel like I need my scented armour today!!

Welcome @NelliesGoat ! I see you've already had some excellent advice. I agree that TF Neroli Portofino is way overpriced and smells exactly like 4711 to me. If you like orange flower/Neroli, there's an indie perfumer called Karen Timson who makes a fantastic one called Hera. It's one of the best neroli/orange blossom fragrances I've ever smelled and it's £49 for 50ml. She sells samples too.

I also really like Guy Laroche Fidji as a fresh summer scent. Try and find the eau de parfum if you can. I found a 30ml bottle on Fragrance Direct last year for £26.

You might also enjoy 4160 Tuesdays The Orange Tree, which has oranges and orange blossom and is pretty long lasting. Start with a 15ml bottle then go big if you love it.

I also recommend Le Jardin Retrouve Verveine D'Ete. It's a fresh green botanical scent with citrus notes. Try a discovery set first. They have a "Fresh one for 12 Euros that they refund via a gift code. I do some freelance stuff for them and I really like them.

Hoping the day is not too trying @ChiswickFlo Obsession is rich and fabulous - a perfect scented armour! 😊

I may have just ordered 15mls of Shazam and Dancing with Strangers from 4160Ts - these were my standout favourites from the sample set, I love them both and they make me smile so much I felt like I needed a small bottle.

I find Diorella very interesting (and love 19, Cristalle). It's a fruitier chypre than these, quite a strong melon scent, but also herbal. Reading it back that sounds disgusting, doesn't it! I think Sarah McCartney describes it as the best scent in the world or similar in the brilliant Perfume Companion. I ordered a smaller sample before buying the full bottle.

MissBattleaxe · 30/05/2022 14:37

@cynthiasrevels yep, Sarah absolutely loves Diorella!

MissBattleaxe · 30/05/2022 14:38

Actually 4160 Tuesdays Meet Me On The Corner is a lovely citrussy chypre.

DramaAlpaca · 30/05/2022 18:08

@cynthiasrevelsthanks, I've ordered the Diorella. If Sarah McCartney thinks it's wonderful chances are I will like it too, as I love Meet Me On The Corner, Court of Ravens and Rosa Ribes, all of which are chypres she's made.

SOTD was Fluffy Lemon Top and SOTE is Rosa Ribes, a yummy blackcurranty rosy chypre.

CorneliaStreet · 30/05/2022 18:28

Working my way through the Estée Lauder luxury collection samples and SOTE is Radiant Mirage. This is my favourite so far. It’s sandalwood and patchouli and according to Fragrantica there’s jasmine in there too, but it’s not really floral at all to me, just woody and warm and lovely. I think someone earlier was talking about Dior Gris? One of the Fragrantica reviews say the dry down of this one is very similar.

cynthiasrevels · 30/05/2022 18:50

&DramaAlpaca, I hope you like it. I also really like 4160 Meet Me on the Corner. (And Oakmossery, though that's a less popular fragrance on this thread - reminds me of Mitsouko).
Am toying with buying some EL Knowing, after all the great reviews here; is the tuberose strident?

cynthiasrevels · 30/05/2022 18:52

@ not &. My goodness, I am technically incapable. I am reminded of my university tutor who struggled to use the 'underarm projector'.

Not to my nose and I'm not a huge fan of tuberose
Knowing is one of my favourite perfumes

OP posts:
ChiswickFlo · 30/05/2022 19:11

I'd day it's a woody chypre
The mimosa makes it unusual imo

OP posts:
DramaAlpaca · 30/05/2022 20:42

@cynthiasrevels I agree with @ChiswickFlo, Knowing is a woody chypre, and I don't find the tuberose overwhelming at all either as it's so well-blended. It's one of my favourites too. It's powerful stuff, a little goes a long way.

Grin at 'underarm projector'

@CorneliaStreet are the EL samples the ones that come on paper that you peel off to reveal the scent? If so, I have it somewhere and must dig it out as Radiant Mirage sounds good.

ChiswickFlo · 30/05/2022 20:44

God, yes. Don't overspray!

OP posts:
CorneliaStreet · 30/05/2022 21:48

@DramaAlpaca I ordered a set of eight 2ml samples from the EL site. They had testers in John Lewis when I was there recently too.

DramaAlpaca · 30/05/2022 22:47

Ah thanks @CorneliaStreet. I'll try my local department store next time I'm in towm.

ChiswickFlo · 31/05/2022 10:16

The LJR sandalwood sacre arrived @MissBattleaxe
I'm actually swooning
I really won't be sorry if ds2 doesn't like it!!!
Fabulous 👌

@ChiswickFlo I told you they were quick. I'm so glad you like it. It was love at first sniff for me, no hesitation. I'm so glad you feel the same! Yay!
