I'm still laughing at 'pink and blue mingers' today Grin

I looked up Apercu by Houbigant and it sounds right up my street, but I can't find it.

Talking of YSL chypres, I haven't tried Yvresse (it's now on my list, you can't go far wrong with Sophia Grosjman) but there's a vintage one called Y which is a stunning, green leaning chypre, a bit like Chanel No 19 with the addition of an oakmoss base. It's my SOTD, perfect for the weather today. I adore it and I keep meaning to hunt down a back up bottle.

Sad to say, Y was discontinued as a women's scent and remarketed under the same name as a male scent.

🙂🙂
"Pink minger" was a phrase I coined specifically for Prada Candy - but it suffices for many, sadly!

It's all I seem to see on high street concessions these days...yuck.

Why does the packaging of gucci bloom give me the rage? I hate pink, but it's visceral. I think it was the TV add. It was SO awful!!!

Grrr

SOTD NRFH.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 28/05/2022 21:57

To me the ultimate pink minger is Miss Dior - not the originale version which I own and love, but the revolting fruity one.

ChiswickFlo · 28/05/2022 22:00

So many contenders @Judystilldreamsofhorses !

FestivelyScent · 28/05/2022 23:10

@ChiswickFlo I knew the phrase pink minger originated from one of the previous incarnations of this thread, but I couldn't recall who created it. 😊 And you're absolutely right, there are so many contenders and they are absolutely everywhere. I never get the opportunity to say pink minger irl because I may be surrounded by people who wear them. 🙃

SOTD was Shazam, which I only seem to love more the longer I wear it.

FestivelyScent · 28/05/2022 23:24

Meant to add that pink minger is a wonderfully all encompassing and concise phrase - it sums up perfectly what those fruity sweet fragrances actually smell like. 😉

GeneParmesanPrivateEye · 29/05/2022 13:04

SOTD - Gypsy Water. It's SO CLOSE to being perfect on me - woods, incense and vanilla are exactly what I like...
but the lasting power and projection pisses me off for the price.

Sounds lovely but it's infuriating when ££££ perfume disappears after an hour.

Spent this morning cleaning 😬

Sotd Estee lauder modern muse nuit to take mum to lunch.

I'm really looking forward to trying the LJR..

Inspired by the 'pink mingers' I dug out my sample of Miss Dior and wore it for my run. It just smells like generic high street perfume to me.
SOT(rest of)D will be Nahema.

Ah, typical pink minger!
Some of them - even the really ££££ ones - smell so synthetic to my nose.

SOTD Diorella - continuing the chypre theme. I have a vintage bottle, but I like the modern incarnation too.

FestivelyScent · 29/05/2022 16:30

I went to bed in Miss Dior Originale last night. The modern Miss Dior (or the formula from a few years ago, as they seemingly tinker with it every few months) is so completely different to the original they are like night and day.

DramaAlpaca · 29/05/2022 16:44

SOTD 4160s Court of Ravens. Utterly delicious rose chypre.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 29/05/2022 22:08

SOTD Miller Harris Violet Ida. I am beginning to get my taste and smell back, finally, although it does come and go.

@GeneParmesanPrivateEye I find Gypsy Water lasts really well, funny how perfumes are so different on everyone.

GeneParmesanPrivateEye · 29/05/2022 22:18

@Judystilldreamsofhorses If Fragrantica is to be believed, it's quite weak on most - you are one of the chosen few! Grin

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 29/05/2022 22:21

@GeneParmesanPrivateEye when I used to be able to smell (🙄) I could smell it on clothes I was putting in the wash, even from a few days earlier. I bought a new bottle a few weeks back actually, I really do love it.

GeneParmesanPrivateEye · 29/05/2022 22:22

I do find it lasts better on fabric actually. I might try the body lotion and layer it, I really do love it...

NelliesGoat · 29/05/2022 22:58

Hello Perfumistas! I'm looking for some recommendations please.

In desperate need of a new daytime summer fragrance.
Over the years I've tried and liked lots, but have only ever loved two. A bit embarrassed to admit that I loved Light Blue and my other favourite for the past decade has been TF Portofino Neroli. I wore Zara Fleur d'Orangeur last summer and liked it, but it didn't last more than 30 minutes on me.
I need a change! I think the TF is hugely overpriced for the quality, and I DG Light Blue is too generic.

Others that I like:
Bulgari Au thé Vert (this is a bit of an outlier)
Floris Neroli Voyage
Floris Bergamotto di Positano (loved the fragrance but it only lasted about 20 minutes!)
Penhaligon's Castile ('borrowed' from DH!). Again poor longevity.

I'm happy to pay highly for something with great longevity and quality. Equally I would wear something relatively cheap if I loved it and it lasted.
I should add that I'm rural, WFH, and a long way from London so the fragrance needs to be accessible or samples available.

NelliesGoat · 29/05/2022 23:00

Forgot to add that I'm not keen on rose on me.

DramaAlpaca · 29/05/2022 23:35

@NelliesGoat I'm not familiar with most of the fragrances you've listed, but one that does occur to me, if you like Neroli Portofino, is Hermes Un Jardin du Nil (think that's right). Have you looked at Fragrantica? It's a good way to find suggestions based on what you like. Someone else will be along with suggestions soon, I reckon @MissBattleaxe might have some good ideas.

DramaAlpaca · 29/05/2022 23:47

I could do with some advice too, actually. I have discount codes from a perfume website for my birthday so of course I want to use them Wink

I'm considering buying a bottle of Diorella. I'm lucky enough to already have in my collection Diorissimo, Chanel No 19, Cristalle, Cristalle Eau Vert, YSL Y and Miss Dior Originale. Is Diorella interesting and/or different enough to get as well, I'm wondering? I can only get 100ml and it's pricy enough even with the discount, and of course it's the reformulated one not vintage... Can't decide.

FestivelyScent · 29/05/2022 23:55

Welcome to the thread @NelliesGoat 👋😊. You seem to like citrus fragrances, which traditionally do not have great longevity - citrus notes are volatile and tend to be quite fleeting. I agree that Neroli Portofino is almost definitely overhyped - for a longer lasting version of the same thing try the Perfume Parlour dupe, their Tom Ford copies are really spot on and cheap as chips. They also tend to last quite a long time. If you are comfortable crossing the aisle, from the men's department try the original Eau Sauvage parfum (not the ubiquitous blue sauvage thingy with Johnny Depp) this is a classic citrus fragrance on a woody resinous base that I find has decent longevity.

I don't really have many suggestions for citrus myself; I'm sure someone more knowledge will have some better ideas for you. 😊

FestivelyScent · 29/05/2022 23:58

@DramaAlpaca I've never smelled Diorella, so won't be any help (sorry), but wanted to say Happy Birthday! Hope you had a lovely day. 😊

SOTD has been Dancing with Strangers.
