<waves at all the other members of the Chypre club> 👋😊

I, too, am very proud of the idea that chypre fans can appreciate and see the beauty in something that many find hard to love. Very pleased to be part of the 4%. 🙃😉

@Cantonet thanks, a few I haven’t tried too that I’ll look up.

Interesting about vintage chypres. I do like some: I love Mitsouko, for instance, and wear it regularly.

DramaAlpaca · 26/05/2022 22:13

@AprilLady I love Mitsouko too, it's one of my favourite ever fragrances.

FestivelyScent · 26/05/2022 23:47

Ooh, yes, vintage chypres are amazing many layered wonders. I love Mitsouko too! 😁

SOTN is Ambre Orient. This dupe from pp just smells so comfortable to me now and it goes on like a second skin. 😊

ChiswickFlo · 27/05/2022 09:03

Sotd 4160tuesdays SSOTPE
I love this fragrance
It's perfect for any day, season or event
And I don't mind liverally re spraying 🤣🤣💜💙

SOTD Miller Harris Secret Gardenia.

CorneliaStreet · 27/05/2022 09:47

Every time I put this one on, I think I should just wear this all the time (during the day at least, prefer something heavier in the evenings). Problem is, I think the same about several others as well!

Cantonet · 27/05/2022 10:07

I'm another one that's fallen in love with Chypres as I've got older. In parallel I've fallen out of love with White Florals, as they just don't seem to smell right on me now. My favourite Chypre is Apercu by Houbigant which dates from 20 000.

Talking of a failsafe perfume that can be worn all year around I have two.
The first one is Cristalle Edp & the second is Ffern Summer 2019. The incense in the Ffern is just warm enough to be worn in Winter & there's just enough Citrussy sparkle for warmer Summer weather.
So if any of you have a spare bottle if Ffern hanging around I would be happy to buy it off you 😉

Sotd is Perfumer H Bergamot.
Very deliciously clov- ey in the mid notes.

musicmum75 · 27/05/2022 12:32

Sotd is Diptyque Eau Rose. Thank you for reminding me about this one @AprilLady. I haven't worn it for a very long time.

Does anyone have Angela Flanders's Morrocan Rose? I have a sample of it and am very tempted to invest in a full size bottle.

I also think about what would be the perfect "universal" scent. I think perhaps it's SSOTPE for me too. It's often one I take on holiday as it works in every scenario. I think another one for me with be L'Occitane Terre de Lumiere (which is sadly being discontinued).

cynthiasrevels · 27/05/2022 17:35

Hello - I've also been lurking on this thread for some time.
Like many of you, I adore chypre- given the chypre love on this thread (and the commercial interests of perfume houses) I feel surprised that we're a 4% minority. Or perhaps perfume addicts are unusually prone to liking these scents?
SOTD FM Iris Poudre. Birthday present to myself - between Chanels no 5 and 19, in other words perfection.

ChiswickFlo · 27/05/2022 17:48

I think chypres are complex and not always "marketable".
They afford cost more to make.
The current trend of super sweet candy type fragrances depress me but that's just me being a scent snob! 🤣

OP posts:
ChiswickFlo · 27/05/2022 17:48

they also cost more to make that should have read

OP posts:
CorneliaStreet · 27/05/2022 19:07

I’ve ordered samples of FM L’eau d’Hiver and Lys Mediterranee, plus Kayali Vanilla as it seems to have a lot of fans here.

cynthiasrevels · 27/05/2022 20:02

Ah thanks, ChiswickFlo, That's very plausible re. cost and fragrance. I'm also not a fan of 'gourmand' scents - but it's all subjective ...

I found L'eau d'hiver really beautiful. I wasn't sure at first - a little aniseed for me, but the dry down was complex and gorgeous. Would be interested to know views, as am tempted to buy. Mr Cynthia less a fan, alas.

ChiswickFlo · 27/05/2022 20:13

I quite like "boozy" gourmands andi love vanilla but the prada candy type frags make me heave 🤢
Ditto coconut, almond, liquorice, anise and (sadly) cinnamon.
I love 4160tuesdays captured By Candlelight and killian angels share for boozy hits ❤️

FestivelyScent · 27/05/2022 21:40

I do think fragrance lovers are predisposed to appreciate the complexity of chypres, just because generally we notice and are drawn towards nuance in our fragrance. I also think, broadly speaking, this explains our apathy toward the mainstream candified pink and blue mingers - they are so generic and blunt and are built only to please quickly and maximise profit. Personally, I know I became a scent fanatic because I found modern mainstream perfumery so unsatisfactory and superficial.

SOTE was Vetiver Bourbon - which smells like green powder - to watch the last of the Chelsea Flower Show TV coverage.

ChiswickFlo · 27/05/2022 21:41

Ah, yes, the pink mingers 🙂🤣

OP posts:
FestivelyScent · 27/05/2022 22:57

Talking of chypres, SOTN is Miss Dior Originale. 😉

I was in the mood for crisp and green and ever so slightly floral after seeing the Chelsea exhibits on TV. 😊

Cantonet · 28/05/2022 07:00

Sounds very refreshing @FestivalScent.
I've discovered a new Chypre - well new to me Vintage Ysl Yvresse and the Perfumer is Sophia Grojsman. It actually has Litchi ( normally my kryptonite) as a note and its fab. The sweetness is kept in check with a cool mentholated effect & an oakmoss backbone. The fuzzy 🍑 notes take me back to my youth.

ChiswickFlo · 28/05/2022 08:56

Ah the great Sophia grosjman!
Do try Elizabeth Taylor diamonds and rubies! Also by SG and cheap as chips.
Glorious peachy 🍑 note

Hello,

I've been lurking, but I need some help -
what does 'pp' stand for, when people have been referring to dupes?
Also, what is SSOTPE?

Thank you!

SOTD I'm wearing a sample of Le Labo Thé Noir and whilst I really like it, it's not a full bottle purchase for me because of the cost....

ChiswickFlo · 28/05/2022 10:31

Hello 👋
SSOTPE = 4160tuesdays sexiest scent on the Planet ever imho
(You can see why we abbreviate it!)
PP = perfume Parlour (a shop that sells high quality versions of perfumes)

OP posts:
GeneParmesanPrivateEye · 28/05/2022 10:47

Ahh, right! Thanks @ChiswickFlo

I'll be honest I have never felt drawn to 4160 and I don't know why... I think all the naming of them and different versions seem a bit inaccessible. But I might try and get some samples.
