SOTD Chanel 19. I don’t especially like any 4160 scents other than What I Did On My Holidays. There was a limited edition one called Gin Garden I had and loved but it gave me a weird rash.

ChiswickFlo · 24/05/2022 09:12

Sotd actually 4160tuesdays fluffy lemon top but now it's raining 🌧 😑

@ChiswickFlo perimenopause is a funny thing isn't it? It's only since then that I like the old fashioned chypres. Before that I wouldn't have gone near them. It's a change in skin chemistry for sure.

That's so interesting. DH bought me some Chanel No 5 a year ago. It smelled bad on me and I rarely wore it. I tried it a couple of days ago and it smelled completely different, and developed during the day to smell really fresh and not too powdery. Could it be a change in skin chemistry?

CorneliaStreet · 24/05/2022 13:29

Testing a couple more Sana Jardins today. Sandalwood Temple is very soft and subtle, more of a skin scent and hasn't lasted well. Not unpleasant though. I prefer Vanilla Nomad, it's a rich and warm amber vanilla with maybe some patchouli in there too. The longevity on this one is much better.

The Sana Jardin set is a mixed bag so far. I really like Tiger By Her Side, some of the others have been ok, but I found Savage Jasmine completely grim and the other white flower one is pretty awful too.

Cantonet · 24/05/2022 13:56

Sotd is Malle Synthetic Jungle.
It's a Chypre, with begins with a real Galbanum blast with a bit of funky blackcurrant, which is both toxic & attractive at the same time. I think I hated it to begin with as it was so astringent in the top notes , but the drydown is great.
It's just won an award apparently.

I'm really enjoying all these perfume reviews being posted. I've been wanting to try Oakmossery for ages, but now I'm glad I haven't 😕

Could be

Chanel no 5 still smells like cat pee to me 😬🤣

Our hormones change so much during perimenopause that it's quite likely we respond differently to fragrances. It's good @VintageGibbon that you can now hopefully enjoy your bottle of No 5. Unfortunately, it has the same effect on my skin as it does on @ChiswickFlo.

I like the sound of that Malle @Cantonet. Shame it's not part of the sample set I have as I'd love to try it.

SOTD is J'Adore, Dior. A nice fruity floral with a bit of powder.

FestivelyScent · 24/05/2022 19:37

Gosh, I've just read my post from yesterday and I sound so miserable! Sorry. Blush

I've been getting migraines literally every other day for months now, and yesterday was a rare migraine free day, so I was a bit thrown by facing one unexpectedly. I don't think I'll try the Amberama on skin, though, just to be safe.

The AKBTF wasn't bad, it's probably just not right for me, but I will try this one on skin to see for sure.

Am currently scent-less, and will be rectifying that shortly.

FestivelyScent · 25/05/2022 00:11

Right, so SOTE is Dancing with Strangers, my first time trying it on myself, and I have to say that I actually love it! Actual real love. It smells so different on skin than paper. It took a while to settle, then beautiful parma violets up top fade into the most heavenly powdery cloud. It's literally like carrying around your own soft fluffy cloud! I didn't get any of the rooty waxy iris I dislike, which often smells cold and oily to me (so I think it's there in the background providing a soft backbone), but rather a warm powdery vanilla with more violets and just a hint of musk.

DWS reminded my mum of her grandmother, my great-grandmother, who I have to say smelled just divine constantly - a non-stop radiating aura of moisturiser, powder and perfume. And actually it does to me too - simultaneously grown-up and comforting. Which is just a lovely thing to associate with a perfume. But, weirdly, it also makes me think of having afternoon tea on a formal terrace. Maybe that's the dressing up aspect.

It's gone from meh to love just like that, and is so good I've just resprayed for the night. (and this one has good longevity).

I think along with Shazam (which also prompted wonderful memories), this may be a full bottle purchase. 😁

DramaAlpaca · 25/05/2022 00:31

@FestivelyScent it seems we agree on Dancing With Strangers Smile
I love your description of it.

I've tried Another Kiss By the Fireside this evening and I quite like it. It's a sweeter, fruitier version of MM By the Fireplace to me, and I prefer it. It's got a smoky vanilla quality to it that also reminds me of Shalimar, but a lighter version.

ChiswickFlo · 25/05/2022 06:51

@FestivelyScent So pleased you love Shazam! ❤️ it's a true love for me 🙂

⚠️ perfumstas assemble!!!!!⚠️

I need a sandalwood fragrance for ds1s birthday...help! He's not into scent, but really likes sandalwood (I've got him some sandalwood beard balm already) or do I go for soap? Argh.

He REALLY dislikes orange scents so neroli and bergamot are out sadly. Nothing too strong.

He currently wears dirty body spray by Lush (which I loathe)

Needs to be good for sensitive skin too! 😩

Any suggestions @MissBattleaxe ??

Having my hair done today which I find tedious. Sotd will be gallivant Istanbul

@DramaAlpaca I think you've reminded me of the note in akbtf I struggle with...cinnamon!
I love it apart from that one jarring note (to me).

I still have the remains (10ml?) of a 30ml of tarts knicker drawer if any of you would like it(free)? IIt's a really beautiful powdery rose voilet but my skin dislikes it :(

I'm also getting rid of the aforementioned 15mls of akbtf...make me an offer 🙂 cinnamon fans will love it 😀

Le Jardin Retrouve Sandalwood Sacre is my favourite sandalwood of all time. They ship fast from Paris ( about 4 days) and you can start with a 15ml bottle for 42 euros if you're just trying it. I do some work for them and they're lovely people too.

ChiswickFlo · 25/05/2022 07:03

Ah....I was looking at them last night...thank you!

Usually I'm quite confident buying for dh and ds2 but ds1 is tricky :)

OP posts:
ChiswickFlo · 25/05/2022 07:24

15ml of sandalwood sacre on its way thanks @MissBattleaxe 😊

If ds1 doesn't like it I think I will 🤣🤣

I may have to treat myself to one of their discovery sets too!

Chiswick Flo- I'm so chuffed! IMO it's a sure bet for any sandalwood fan. I adore it.

MissBattleaxe · 25/05/2022 07:56

the Le Jardin Retrouve discovery sets get refunded unless it's the big one and even then you get half of it back with a gift code.

I adore it too. I got the discovery set last year on @MissBattleaxe recommendation then went back for three bottles including Sandalwood Sacre. It's heavenly, the nicest sandalwood ever.

MissBattleaxe · 25/05/2022 12:07

I have been watching quietly for some time, loving this thread and all things fragrance related.
SOTD 4160 Orange Tree, which I really liked until my DS said it reminded him of the scented towels at the end of a meal in an Indian restaurant. I know what he means, citrus and spicy.
