C'mon who's still loving skinny jeans?

I look good in them, make me look so much better than wide legs and baggy jeans. It can't be just me. Surely? Grin

@PerkingFaintly 😂

Please tell me they are coming back into fashion ! Not cause I want to look fashionable but because I live in low rise black skinny jeans and cannot find any anywhere!

I've just had a baby so my old ones don't fit and I cannot find any low rise ones anywhere!

I spent the best part of 15 years wishing them away since they came back "in" in the early 2000's. I finally got on board with a pair I love (Levi's 721s in case anyone is interested) around 2 years ago and now they are "out"?! How is this fair?!

Also I now feel like I'm somehow too old and too young for bootcut, like they are fine for ages 40+ or 25- but anywhere in between I'm trying too hard? And that's not all 25-40 year olds, just me/my shape/my lack of trendiness by the way!

Just yesterday I Googled 721's to see if I could get another pair.

I have a pair in black, and wanted blue. But nope, nothing.

But there were loads of skinnies, and our Levi shop still has more skinnies than any other style.

I don't think they are going anywhere just yet. Well at least not here.

isthismylifenow · 27/04/2022 06:42

Oof. Scrap that 😝

It was 712's I was looking for. We have loads of 721 I see.

RampantIvy · 27/04/2022 06:57

Second M and S Sienna straight leg. I have some Sophia slim straight as well, but they are a tad too tight now.

Can't bear low rise. They always feel like they are falling down and they cut in the widest part of me.

KangarooKenny · 27/04/2022 06:58

I love them. Will be wearing them in my nursing home !

milkysmum · 27/04/2022 07:05

Isthismylifenow- they have 712s on eBay if you would consider pre loved jeans? What's the fit of these like by the way? I tend to be in between a size 10 and 12 generally with slim legs but really wide hips.
I used to live in skinny's and have recently tried the baggier styles- I find I just look scruffy and much bigger than I am though so might switch back to a slimmer leg!

BottlingBurpsForGrandma · 27/04/2022 07:09

I love them, and even still wear jeggings. I'm not very stylish, to be fair, but I look "nice" most of the time!

HighInPolyunsaturates · 27/04/2022 07:10

I was thinking about this yesterday in Primark. They have hundreds of different types of jeans but loads and loads of skinnies. So they are still in fashion and selling in their droves.

I like them but have never felt comfortable in them since my first C-section 6 years ago. I can't wear anything right, even having lost the baby weight. I wear lots of other skinny trousers (basically leggings of every kind) but they have to be super soft and stretchy. I've never found a soft enough pair of jeggings.

CornishGem1975 · 27/04/2022 07:10

Me. Everything else looks so frumpy and mumsy.

HighInPolyunsaturates · 27/04/2022 07:10

Thanks Milkysmum, I'm in another country so I am keeping an eye out for any that happen to pop up.

I find I have to try Levi's on as I have a few different pairs, but they are all different sizes. My 712 are a 27, but then some styles I have 28 and even a 26 in another style. But I tried on a size 28 of 501 and couldn't even get the buttons to wave hello, never mind meet. I was a bit miffed as they were the only pair of 501 I liked, as most here are now cropped or ripped which I don't like.

The 712 are a slim fit, straight leg. So the top (to me) fits like a skinny mid rise but slighter wider from the knee down. I have to shorten mine as we only seem to get 32 length which annoys me a bit (as wasn't that the whole point of Levi's and choice of length). But they are just so comfortable. I wear those and my faithful 710's the most. (they are also 27). I'm an 8 - 10 usually just for reference to size.

I still have my bootlegs as well, they do still see the light every now and then. My dd hates them though 😂

artisanbread · 27/04/2022 08:07

I wear skinny, straight or boot cut. No baggy. More skinnies than baggy round these parts.

lurcherlove · 27/04/2022 08:08

I think they look great on pretty much everyone as long as you find a pair that actually fit. They can be a practical and smart-ish option.

Bagelsandbrie · 27/04/2022 08:14

Asos is still full of skinny jeans on their “new in” sections so they’re not as out as people on here seem to want to think they are. If that’s anything to judge by anyway! There’s skinny and super straight wide leg type styles.

Worldgonecrazy · 27/04/2022 08:16

I have tried all the other styles, mum jeans - which make me look like a frump, the 80s slightly baggy style, ditto.

the most flattering fit is my Levi’s high rise skinny. Plus I do a gazillion squat and lunge variations every week - no way am I hiding my legs!

deter09 · 27/04/2022 08:20

Skinnies look the best on me. I still wear them although putting them on the other day I did think that I haven’t seen many people wearing them lately. But I don’t care, the other styles don’t suit me.

I’m glad to read this thread!

BusySittingDown · 27/04/2022 08:27

I still like skinny jeans but baggy ones are so much more comfortable!

After living in elasticated waists during lockdowns skinny jeans still feel like a bit of a shock.

Fizbosshoes · 27/04/2022 08:31

I was unsure about them at first but now I love my skinny jeans, I feel like they're a lot more flattering. (I'm short, size 8, with no waist!) I don't like wide or bootleg as they just make me look rectangular. I used to have skinny flare which I would consider again, but no idea if they're available.

SweetSakura · 27/04/2022 08:51

Yep! I'm just ignoring the other jeans trends as I know they don't look good on me.

Scorchedterf · 27/04/2022 08:56

Skinnies and drainpipes have been going out of fashion for decades, but bizarrely people have still been wearing them. I remember an old boyfriend years ago telling me drainpipes wouldn’t stay in fashion long, they just changed name.

Not on me. Unless I am very very careful with what I wear on my top half and on my feet they make the lower half of my body look like a parsnip with clown sized feet.

RampantIvy · 27/04/2022 09:39

Some of the fashion police on mumsnet seem to forget that this is Style and Beauty, not Fashion and Beauty

Skinny jeans suit some people better than other styles. Loads of people still wear them where I live.

CornishGem1975 · 27/04/2022 10:07

I'd say something that is as prevalent as skinny jeans cannot be 'out of fashion', that's just something being peddled at us so we go out and spend more £££ on things we don't need.

Skinny jeans are a classic anyhow, not a particularly on-trend thing. They're also a lot smarter than mom jeans and the ilk. We can wear smart jeans for work and skinny looks a lot better than other styles.

TheOGCCL · 27/04/2022 10:14

Love skinnies. Neat, smart, flattering, practical in the rain, go with lots of different shoes, length can be easily changed by tucking under or up, comfortable for me, go anywhere (with the right wash)
They do age me. The youngsters round here wouldn’t wear skinnies. But they also look scruffier and that’s not what I’m aspiring to at 46.
