I'm going to a wedding in may, and I already own this dress,
I think it's probably a but much for a wedding, but it so beautiful and would love to get more wear out of it.

Honest opinions please! Grin

Gosh no, it's too bridesmaidy. But also too OTT ruffly as you say, puts me in mind of tassly valances or those toilet roll dollies, sorry.

LetHimHaveIt · 18/04/2022 18:00

I imagine you've got a lovely figure if you've already got that in your wardrobe, but I'm
afraid I think it looks like it should be atop a loo roll.

Would like to see a bigger picture.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/04/2022 18:01

2nd is even worse imo.

bigred22 · 18/04/2022 18:02

Considering the bridesmaids are in pink I wouldn't wear it, the second I would

BoatingDown · 18/04/2022 18:02

Where's the pink one from?

dancingmonkey · 18/04/2022 18:03

@BoatingDown

Where's the pink one from?
They are both needle and thread

Oh no! Why's that?

1st dress MUCH better than the 2nd. What sort of venue is the wedding at? It would have looked really out of place at our relaxed marquee wedding, but in keeping with my sister's hotel wedding!

Can you post a picture of you wearing it?

Yellowhighheels · 18/04/2022 18:05

I think the second is better if the bridesmaids are in pink.

For the pink one, maybe you could tack the hem to the waistband to hide the bottom tier so as to get more wear out of it, but it can still be let down if you decide to go all out? Just because I think it's gorgeous but not timeless so would want to wear it all the time!

If you Google needle and thread clarabelle it should come up, can't seem to add another picture

It's awful, like one of those frilly toilet cover dolls that were fashionable years ago.

MimiSunshine · 18/04/2022 18:08

I’d say wear the first if you shorten it to knee length. You’re very unlikely to match pink bridesmaid dresses in it.
The 2nd one is nice too. Dress up, have fun. It’s a wedding.

You could always wear flat sandals to make either of them a bit more relaxed / boho if you want to wear a long dress.

youlightupmyday · 18/04/2022 18:09

Both gorgeous! I love clothes to be a big daring and they are very now. No to pink if that is the bridesmaid colour but the second one is fabulous too.

EmergencyPoncho · 18/04/2022 18:11

I think they're both lovely but the second one is perhaps a safer option. I like a romantic Victorian frilled affair though.

EmergencyPoncho · 18/04/2022 18:14

Have you looked at Hope & Ivy? A similar, romantic feel.

TooManyPJs · 18/04/2022 18:16

I think it looks a bit bridesmaidy.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/04/2022 18:19

I think somebody posted the second one on here before. It reminds me of one of those rag rugs my nana used to make. Sorry.

TotallyTS · 18/04/2022 18:20

Don't wear a pink dress if the bridesmaids are! Don't shorten it to wear it either, they could all be wearing different lengths.

I really like dress 2 and it's safe now you know the colours.

LetHimHaveIt · 18/04/2022 18:22

The gallery pictures of the Clarabelle do look rather lovely. Less fussy 'on'.

Kite22 · 18/04/2022 18:24

Well, the first one looks like curtains or a lampshade and the second one like one of those dolls crocheted to go over a toilet roll, so I can't really see that you would be mistaken for being in the bridal party, as it is unlikely that is what the bride, or bridesmaids would be wearing.

You clearly have the confidence to go out and wear your own style, so I would say a wedding is just the place to wear 'stand out' dresses. People do dress up at weddings, so I am not sure why you are questioning wearing them to a wedding, if you have the confidence to wear them anyway / are clearly confident in your own skin.

WhyTheWhales · 18/04/2022 18:28

Why do you have such beautiful dresses in your wardrobe?! I'm so Easter EnvyEaster Grin

I wouldn't wear the pink one since the bridesmaids are wearing pink. The second one is lovely and you should definitely wear it

Eeksteek · 18/04/2022 18:30

Yes, it’s OTT, unless it’s just for the evening of a very formal wedding.

You should wear whatever you like, for your own enjoyment, but it’s a very niche dress in terms of appropriateness in my honest opinion (which you did invite) and I think wearing it could be viewed as competition with the bride’s dress, and maybe trying too hard in terms of it being very frilly and fancy. That’s fine if that’s what you like, but not on a bride’s special day. I am a proper curmudgeon about dress being appropriate to an occasion, and feel it is ooor manners if it isn’t, and have very —boring— classic taste, so I’m probably not the best person to opine.

Stravaig · 18/04/2022 18:30

I'm thinking of old-fashioned lampshade tassels. Sorry, OP!

Mamabananananana · 18/04/2022 18:30

I do worry about floor length dresses to weddings- especially when you dont know what colours the bridesmaids will be wearing.. i was in the same conundrum last week- ended uo buying a dip hem dress instead.
I also dithered about a white dress but covered in huge bright flowers, and just thought naaaaah...
I agree maybe tack a few layers up? Or have it shortened, then you'll actually be able to get the wear and enjoyment out of it

I don't actually own the second! But I've seen in on ' by rotation ' which is a rental app, where you can basically rent beautiful clothes and bags from other people for a few days, weeks of how ever long..It's amazing and perfect for one off occassions.
