Sali Hughes new skincare range for Revolution

Anyone seen Sali's video this morning? She's created a new skincare basics range for Revolution (whose products I've never tried). Quite excited by this prospect, not least because of the really reasonable pricing!

Yes, just watched her video. They look good, but they have fragrance, so its a no from me. I think she said one of the items was unfragranced, so might check it out.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/04/2022 09:16

I like SH and will have a look, although I'd want to see the eco credentials of the packaging.

All I could think of in the video, though, was that her eyebrows are too dark for her now.

florianfortescue · 18/04/2022 09:21

I'm looking forward to trying these! I reckon they will be tiny sizes for the price though. We'll see.

I'm keen to try the serum and the rich moisturiser first. Probably the night time cleanser too although I can't be doing with the faff of a flannel.

The fragrance sounds right up my street ... "posh massage" Grin

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 18/04/2022 09:24

Just what the world needs.

Another influencer skin care/perfume/make up line.

I'm getting tired of it.

At least Sali is upfront and tells you that no, you don't need 9 different serums with scientific names "and if you send us an email we'll recommend you a tailor made list (of 14 different products)"

Any reference to the Ordinary purely casual. 😂

LookdeepintotheParka · 18/04/2022 09:39

I've just watched the video and am really impressed by what's she's tried to create - simple and affordable! Will definitely be trying the acids and gel moisturiser when it's out. I use quite a few of the Revolution skincare range already.

I'm guilty of using way too many products and like the fact these products work harder for the money.

From what she says the eco credentials of the packaging are pretty good. I think she was keenly aware it would be an issue for lots of people.

It is a shame some are fragranced but if it's not too strong might not put me off. Definitely interested in the cleansers and serum

I'm always amused at references to get being an 'influencer '. Does that yeah get thrown at all journalists now or only the ones who work in fashion/beauty?
OP posts:
ChardonnaysPetDragon · 18/04/2022 10:06

It's not thrown as an accusation, if that's what you mean. it's a legitimate occupation now. I'm sure Sali Hughes is more than capable of wearing more than one hat, so she is a journalist, a presenter and an influencer.

Also, in my book it's an apt description for anyone on Instagram selling stuff.

After all, how many journalists there are with their own skin care line?

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 18/04/2022 10:09

Oh sorry, let me be more precise.

Not selling stuff on Instagram, because the sales don't happen there, but advertising stuff on instagram.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 18/04/2022 10:17

It's just reinventing the wheel to be honest. I'm not a mad fan of SH but I would be surprised if her range does anything that you can't already find in others so yes she is capitalising on her heft as an influencer to get her product 'out there'
Props to her for making it affordable though.

Fair enough. It's often used by people as a dismissive accusation but I can see how you meant it. And yeah of course she's using her social media to promote and market it (and Revolution are using her SM presence in offering her her own line of products).

I don't imagine most of the products are groundbreaking but I definitely do get confused by the sheer scale of products that each do one thing so the concept of 'here's a small number of products that have the key ingredients you need' does appeal to me.

OP posts:
LadyEloise1 · 18/04/2022 11:09

Does that mean that's the end of her as an independent commentator on beauty products ?

MorrisZapp · 18/04/2022 11:13

In the video she says she will continue using loads of other products and expects her customers to do so too.

In no way is she saying 'these are the best products available and you should use them'.

She knows her market, beauty magpies who will never truly find a holy grail because they will always experiment.

The products look lovely but I think the rich moisturiser is the only one I'd buy. I don't need the others.

ElenaSt · 18/04/2022 11:47

Good for her and her bank balance but in reality she is a business woman who has allowed her name to be used on products that she will have has virtually no input in producing.

I wouldn’t purchase just as I wouldn’t buy a celebrity endorsed perfume but that’s not to say that plenty of others will be enticed by a name they are familiar with and like and may even like the products.

The products themselves won’t be any better or worse than anything else at the same price point.

Imabouttoexplode · 18/04/2022 13:39

Exactly. They won't be any worse but they won't be any better. There's nothing new or innovative or ground breaking. I wonder how they compare to Trinny Woodalls newly released skincare products. Same, same but different. I too am sick of it all. It's just a relentless conveyor belt of new creams, shampoos, make up......How much do we need fgs.

Yorkshirelass04 · 18/04/2022 13:49

I used to really like Sali and then we had an exchange on Instagram that made me feel a bit weird. Unfortunately she came across as a bit snippy and I didn't know what to make of it. I know she doesn't owe me anything, but it did make me disengage. I'm not all over her products and endorsements like I used to be.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 18/04/2022 13:55

I think The Ordinary broke the mould when they exposed the fact that it was the specific chemicals you needed rather than a load of fancy packaging and marketing guff

sogoodyousee · 18/04/2022 13:58

"Good for her and her bank balance but in reality she is a business woman who has allowed her name to be used on products that she will have has virtually no input in producing"

That would be my worry. Fragrance would irritate my skin, so I won't be trying them.

I dint think you’re the only one who feels like this tbh 😉
Mercurial123 · 18/04/2022 14:26

That ship sailed years ago she's not independent. She's an influencer first with a dull column in The Guardian.
Lottapianos · 18/04/2022 15:50

I feel the same. I'm a big skincare fan and really like Revolution but have no interest in this range. Also agree that she comes across as sharp, snippy and cold on social media, which really puts me off her

MrOllivander · 18/04/2022 20:41

Not sure at all. The recent racism incident from revolution puts me off

Yorkshirelass04 · 18/04/2022 21:14

It's a shame as I really got a lot of value from Salis Instagram posts on makeup and fashion and the Facebook group.

She doesn't owe me anything but her response to a well intentioned private message made me feel really awkward.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 18/04/2022 22:08

I think she's had to position herself as the budget friendly Caroline Hirons - to be fair to Sali she's always championed cheaper drugstore brands and I have always liked that about her. There is so much bullshit around luxury brands.

But I'm more likely to pick up a drugstore brand on a whim if it's under a tenner in Superdrug, whereas I'd really consider a Drunk Elephant or Tata Harper purchase, so I need her recommendations less, I guess.
