If you like boots with dresses, what shoes do you wear in summer

I'm starting back at work in an office, I need to look worky but it's a fairly casual place. Ive tried to buy a capsule type wardrobe, or at least most things co-ordinate well together. I'd love a pair of shoes to wear with both dresses and trousers on warmer days that also wont look ridiculous on the not so warm days, ie not sandals! I like ballet pumps but find they dont offer much support, Im not fussed by the trainers with dresses look and I dont think loafers are really my thing. I do love a good chunky boot for cooler days but am struggling for ideas for the summer - anyone have any ideas? Or is this an impossible ask?!

I have the same problem OP. I'm currently still in boots. Have you looked at pumps (ballet flats, pointed flats) with more support? I like Vionic.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 06/05/2022 18:17

There are some really ugly shoes about, that’s all I’ll say Blush

anyway I agree OP.
last year I wore dresses with Superga. I was so happy to have found a solution and I loved the look but I think it might look dated now.

I also have these and they are amazing. Look great in the office with trousers or dresses.

those talking about flip flops and Birkenstocks - not helpful! The OP said office wear.

Depending on your budget Air and Grace do a fab dressy loafer that comes in lovely colours, also espadrilles. Their shoes are all around the £150 mark, and you need to go up a half size, but they are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. I work in hospitality and can wear any of their shoes all day on my feet with no problems at all. Clarks also have some block heeled sandals that look dressy enough for work, and I find their shoes quite comfortable. Avoid M&S like the plague, I have never had such uncomfortable shoes.

Chocaholic9 · 06/05/2022 18:32

I wear boots in the winter and espadrilles sometimes in the summer, with my dresses

What about legs? That's my dilemma in the summer. Bare legs are just too informal and skin coloured tights are just shit. Is there any solution? I'm gong to wear black tights and boots next week because I think it's still early enough to get away with it but that won't fly in July

LividLaVidaLoca · 06/05/2022 18:38

@Georgesgrumpymedicine Those shoes with the holes are EXACTLY what I was looking for in navy so thanks (except now I’m £75 down on two minutes ago 🤣

I just wear shoes Grin

Do you really?

what kind? That is what op is asking afterall

missg00se · 06/05/2022 19:10

Ecco quite often do kind of halfway house between shoes and trainers type shoes, they are on the casual side but not as casual as trainers and nicer on the feet than ballet pumps or shoes. Something like this

Bearsan · 06/05/2022 19:19

I wear my summer boots or occasionally Converse. If it's hot I wear sandals or flipflops. No one has ever invented shoes that I like, they're all hideous, frumpy and never look or feel right.

FitzChivarly · 06/05/2022 19:23

Sketchers do some pump like canvas shoes which are super comfy, smart and more supportive than a flat. Can’t do clicky links or I’d link some

Furball · 06/05/2022 19:51

Something like this?

Or this?

These are also really nice and look summery because of the colour - they also do a blue leather colour as well as others if you search on there

BigSkies22 · 06/05/2022 19:54

I wear trainers, or Converse mostly in the summer. But this year I did splurge on some Marni sandals. They are chunky (wide straps, solid soles) so give good support, and don't expose loads of foot, bunions and all; but they are sling back. So many sandals have a strap across the ankle which reduce comfort and shorten the leg. They look good with trousers or skirts, they're tan with gold detail and I'm hoping they will last me 10 years, as my Marc Jacobs sandals did previously. And if I want to do a more kooky look, I can wear them with sparkly socks!

There;s a fashion blogger who is obsessed with flats - I think her site is called En Brogue. Might get inspiration there?

Thehop · 06/05/2022 21:12

Hopefully I’ll find the holy grail here too. Great question OP

GreenAcorn · 06/05/2022 21:22

I'm planning on getting some chunky loafers, like these:
Loafers

MissCrowley · 06/05/2022 21:24

Doc Martens would be my go-to

Kiitos · 06/05/2022 23:06

This sort of thing
www.johnlewis.com/kin-ayeleena-leather-tie-back-shoe-boots-black/p5997564
Though last year they did a khaki pair with a lower heel which were much more useful than black

My solution for legs is to wear a midi or maxi skirt/dress or trousers. You might even get away with shaving your legs...

I have the same problem. I just never know what shoes to wear in spring and autumn. I guess I like trainers at weekends, but too casual for work. Loafers would be OK but I can never find ones I like. Much prefer boots in winter and sandals in summer.

You pretty much summed up my dilemma.

I'm going to persevere with chunky/platform loafers this year. I'm determined to find something...

SmiledWtherisingsun · 07/05/2022 07:07

Birkenstocks.

Thelikelylass · 07/05/2022 08:23

this is a good thread! I have the same dilemma so just ordered some onitsuka tiger trainers, a chunky pair of h and M trainers, a classic pair of ballet shoes and now looking for some loafers - all angles covered!

pinksunday · 07/05/2022 09:01

Although listed as trainers i think these look smarter than normal trainers.

pinksunday · 07/05/2022 09:03

I buy a pair like this every year. They are my spring shoe for sure. Handy for the inbetween stage or when it rains. These ones come in black too.

elizabethdraper · 07/05/2022 09:11

Fittflop have lovely summer mules

I know everyone hates fittflop but they are the only shoes that fit my weird shaped feet

Winter docs, summer fittflops

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/05/2022 09:22

I'm amazed at how many people keep saying trainers / sandals when the OP has said she needs shoes.
