If you like boots with dresses, what shoes do you wear in summer

I'm starting back at work in an office, I need to look worky but it's a fairly casual place. Ive tried to buy a capsule type wardrobe, or at least most things co-ordinate well together. I'd love a pair of shoes to wear with both dresses and trousers on warmer days that also wont look ridiculous on the not so warm days, ie not sandals! I like ballet pumps but find they dont offer much support, Im not fussed by the trainers with dresses look and I dont think loafers are really my thing. I do love a good chunky boot for cooler days but am struggling for ideas for the summer - anyone have any ideas? Or is this an impossible ask?!

At least Im not the only one!

I'll have a look at everything suggested here and might go and try some on while wearing one of the dresses, its annoying though as theres much more variety available online

I wear boots till May and then Birkenstocks or flip flops until October!

minipie · 16/04/2022 23:31

I used to have some wedge court shoes that were ideal for this, surprisingly comfy too. I think they were Gabor maybe.

Cloudwire · 17/04/2022 06:32

@NotAScoobyToBeSeen

Exactly *@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie* !!

I love those canvas boots @Cloudwire but I think theyre a bit too casual for work unfortunately. I do like espadrilles, so I may get some for warmer days!

@thesnaleandthewhail I am v fussy Grin

What do you all think of these? They wont do the very hot days, I could get espadrilles for those weeks

How many pairs of shoes is normal to have for work?!

I think the chunky loafers are great! The ballet flats could work too I reckon with the right dress.
Juancornetto · 17/04/2022 07:10

I love flatform espadrilles in summer - the ones with closed toes and ankle straps. I'm looking for a tan pair like this www.raffaello-network.com/english/fashion-details/591181/3053/See%20By%20Chloe%20Womens%20Shoes.html?da=nto&gclid=Cj0KCQjw0umSBhDrARIsAH7FCocQxJeJmBExv86eLNrK9M6wbRCOzBpDdz0_qu58lhu20n4NYVj_XYoaAjqMEALw_wcB but less spendy

I completely agree with this dilemma. I love wearing boots to work. I actually don't really like wearing sandals unless really hot which in Scotland is not guaranteed. I don't like brouges or ballet pumps either. I think I'm going to try and find some smartish trainers as I can probably get away with them at work

Carbiesdreamhouse · 17/04/2022 07:55

Closed toe sandals of some sort for work. I don't think open toe is great for work, and closed toe gives the option of sheer neutral tights to even skin tone. I know neutral tights are supposedly awful but I find it a better alternative to fake tan and slappy bare legs for work when wearing shorter dresses.

OxanaVorontsova · 17/04/2022 08:01

Loafers here, chunky as previous pic or coloured, try Zara

GrapesThatThrive · 17/04/2022 08:02

Maybe you should try a few different kinds of loafers? I always turned my nose up at them but have embraced them in the last 5 years or so. Comfortable, not too hot but not exposed like sandals, and really good at either casual or workwear. Although my elderly mother in law did admire them and ask where they were from which can't be a good sign Grin

Brogues are great but as PP said, I can't wear them with bare legs. Looks weird.

Fidodidit · 17/04/2022 08:10

Birkenstock shoes?

TheHoleNineYards · 17/04/2022 08:28

I share this dilemma OP. Every year I post to ask ‘where can I find smart, comfortable work shoes for summer?’ and I’ve never really found the answer.

Captainj1 · 17/04/2022 11:06

These are expensive but arguably the most comfortable shoes ever

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 17/04/2022 11:08

Fly have some nice summer shoes.

PinkTonic · 17/04/2022 11:21

I’m giving these a go loafers for work

TheVeryThing · 17/04/2022 11:27

I have been looking at some flat two part shoes on asos. Also have a pair of leather plimsoll type shoes with an espadrille sole that are pretty useful. They are nude colour so not the most stylish things ever.

NotAScoobyToBeSeen · 17/04/2022 15:35

Im so pleased Im not the only one!!

Thanks for all the suggestions, I am looking at them all. I reckon a day of shoe shopping may be necessary. Such a shame

I totally relate to your problem! These are quite nice from flpflop: www.fitflop.com/uk/en/shop/allegro-fold-down-back-leather-ballet-pumps-p-DY1#592

I like the tan but the buff would work for summer tooI think.

NellyTimes · 26/04/2022 23:15

My feet are sweating just thinking about wearing some of these in the summer.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/04/2022 20:26

Sorry but those Fitflop ones are fuck-ugly.

Tulipvase · 27/04/2022 20:30

I wear low cut converse.

Sunshinegirl82 · 27/04/2022 20:34

I have these and really like them, much more supportive than the usual ballet pump:

roundtable · 27/04/2022 20:49

If it's hot hot then I'd wear sandals.

Warm - I still wear boots but with bare legs. Must be loose fitting around the legs though.

Cold - boots with tights

Looking at new ideas though. I mainly live in dresses as I hate the feeling of waistbands. Great question op!
