Nightmare bikini line

I'm looking for solidarity, sympathy and solutions.

From a teen I was 'blessed' with an excessive amount or pubic hair. I have never managed a solution.

Shaving- get regrowth within 12 hours and gets very spikey/itchy.
Sugaring/waxing- only lasts 4 days before regrowth and then get 2 weeks of ingrowing hair annoyance so hardly seems worth the effort.
Creams- as above, only a few days of smoothness.

So on holiday I only ever get to wear a normal swimsuit for 4 days before I go back to boy shorts or a leg suit.

I'm now 48 and the bikini line reaches 5 inches down my thighs. Also really hairy between my bum cheeks and have no idea what to do with this. Also, attractively, half my pubes are grey so I guess I've missed the boat on laser treatment.

Ideally I'm looking for the solution but I fear there isn't one. So please comfort me with your own nightmare bikini line stories so I don't deal so freaky.

Hopeful bump for the hirsute evening crowd.

Here in solidarity! I would love a solution to the red/spotty/ingrown hair issue

Flyinggeese1234 · 21/03/2022 18:25

I get mine waxed OP but it’s been a dedicated effort over years to get to a stage where it’s very much under control.

So I recommend waxing, but consistently. Every 5 or 6 weeks.

Zeldaaa · 21/03/2022 18:26

What about laser?

toddlingabout · 21/03/2022 18:28

You'll be able to get deals. I got one half price from Boots. It definitely helps.

Aniita · 21/03/2022 18:28

Lumea won't work on your greys. But otherwise, yes it's amazing.

I would do a combo of that and a bikini line trimmer to trim the greys really short. No one will see them and it takes 5 mins to tidy up a bikini line with a trimmer

SparklingLime · 21/03/2022 18:35

Not a solution, but are you using Ingrow Go or similar? Important ingredients are salicylic and glycolic acids.

GettingStuffed · 21/03/2022 18:59

OP you've obviously got mine

GettingStuffed · 21/03/2022 18:59

As well as your own

JustHavinABreak · 21/03/2022 19:01

Oh the relief!!! It's not just me Grin

Nateismine · 21/03/2022 20:33

And what about the hair around my anus- what the hell do people do with that?
Why am I so hairySad?

I use a good old fashioned Lady Shaver. It has a bikini line setting which trims it very short. As it isn’t removing it completely, I don’t get any shaving rash. There are some other shavers that have bikini settings too.

Nanny67 · 21/03/2022 20:41

Partyplan what about the hair that grows down the legs and in the bum crack? I'm not sure I'd want to use a razor there 😳

Dontsayyouloveme · 21/03/2022 20:43

OP, it’s not just you that’s so hairy.. I’m the same! I started laser hair removal about three years ago and the little buggers are still growing strong - partially not help by lockdown or the menopause.. but… I have zero re growth underneath and round my bum hole. However, the sides/top of legs, and the very top half an inch of where my pubes start.. refuse to go down without a fight!

I would still recommend you get laser hair removal for the dark buggers that are left.. get peri-anal too for the ones around your bum hole! It’s not cheap and a total pain in the arse but it’s deffo worth it.. the greys you can just veet off!

hanketypankety · 21/03/2022 20:44

No solutions but just wanted to say you're not alone! I hate holidays as I have to shave every day and then the area gets irritated so even more obvious Confused

enjoyingscience · 21/03/2022 20:50

I’ve found my people. I’m always aghast at people who get it all off, as if I tried that I’d be embarking on a lifetimes work, and would be a mass of ingrown hairs and itchy nightmare skin within minutes which would stretch from my arsehole to halfway to my knees. Not traditionally sexy.

I ladyshave too - can be done every few days and no itchiness.

I've just been online shopping this evening for swim shorts for the same reason! I hate that bumpy itchy redness. In recent years mine seems to react to chlorine, so the day/ day after shaving it comes out in a terrible red rash! I'm just going to trim there, put my shorts on and hope nobody is looking too closely.
Also, why do men's swimming shorts look comfy and so many of the women's ones I see still skin- tight little things?

PartyPlan · 21/03/2022 21:02

@Nanny67 it’s not like an open razor, it has protection to avoid cuts.

Aphantasia · 21/03/2022 21:04

Yay! Hairy friends, I’m 42 and have been waging war on the battlefield of my vulva and beyond for 20+ years. Once very couple of weeks I put in my earphones, get an audio book on and do a mixture of wax and epilation. I’ve been toying with the idea of a lumea fro years but can’t figure out how id not give myself third degree burns up my bum with some of the acrobatics it takes to get wax strips in there… I’m in awe of anyone who can go to a beautician for a perinatal wax, the mortification would finish me off!

dotdotdotdash · 21/03/2022 21:09

I'd recommend an epilator. The one I've got is a Braun Silk Epil; and it has honestly taken all my worries away regarding body hair.

Because it basically tweezes out the hair, it really really hurts the first time you use it on a very hairy bit; but then you maintain weekly and I actually enjoy it weirdly. And you can use it on your bum crack if you're flexible enough! So if you can get through the discomfort of getting started with it (large gin and tonic to take the edge off) you might find it works for you.

SummerSazz · 21/03/2022 21:10

I use an epilady but have quite a high pain threshold! I can go all over with it but do have to be careful about catching body bits in it 😄

Another epilator fan! Don't you find it's not too painful though @SummerSazz if you use it regularly?
