Can a 45 year old size 14 get away with a jumpsuit?

I have a smartish event coming up at work and really like the look of this jumpsuit.

But I am 45 size 14 with chunky upper arms and 5ft5.

I’m not good with clothes so looking for advise - would something like this work?

I'm going to say yes it'll work as long as you wear it with heels, not flats.

JustWhatIAlwaysWanted · 20/03/2022 15:59

Wear whatever you like - I like the look of that - though I think it helps to be tall to make jumpsuits look flattering. I am truly short, more than you! So I don't wear them. Heels are the answer as the poster above said.

PinkGinBigGrin · 20/03/2022 16:03

Yes, it's nice. And you're 45 not bloody 105 fgs! That jumpsuit isn't something someone in their 20's would wear anyway!

And for what it's worth I think jumpsuits are flattering on women of all ages so long as you choose the right style for you. I get loads of compliments when I wear mine (I've got several) and I'm the same age as you.

1frenchfoodie · 20/03/2022 16:04

Yes if it is the right jumpsuit, my similar shaped mum is in her 60s and rocked a geometric pattered jumpsuit ( her first ever) for my brother’s birthday

Florence4170 · 20/03/2022 16:06

It looks lovely. As you are 45 though, are you dexterous enough to get our of it in time if you need a tinkle? 😬

moonbedazzled · 20/03/2022 16:06

My mum's carer will be early 40s and showed up in a jumpsuit last week. She looked absolutely fab.
Go for it.

JamieNorthlife · 20/03/2022 16:06

Its really nice, Go for it!

Dh innocently asked me the other day if mine was difficult to get out of to pee and I told him it has a flap underneath that I unbutton when I need the loo.

He believed me for aaaaages! 😂

Mischance · 20/03/2022 16:21

It will be fine, as long as you have a sound bladder!

VorpalSword · 20/03/2022 16:29

Thank you all. Off to look at the back fastenings now.

I think your choice is beautiful. I like the face that it look like a 2 piece and not an all in one, but at the same time it will be flattering.
Get it, try it on, take a few pictures of yourself from different angles and see what you think. You can always turn to Mumsnet for an honest opinion.

Also I think that the correct underwear will be worth it's weight in gold.

Oldh · 20/03/2022 16:42

That is lovely. I don't usually like jumpsuits because of the practicalities. If you have a jacket over, do you pretty much have to get undressed just to go to the toilet? ...I go a lot if I've had a drink Grin

5128gap · 20/03/2022 16:42

Age is entirely irrelevant, it's about whether you can look in the mirror and feel good. Tbh I wouldn't buy that though. It looks too much like a top and trousers and I wouldn't want the faff of a jumpsuit without the look of one.

Er, PoloPrincess, you give terrible advice. This is what you should be saying....

"Get it, try it on, take a few pictures of yourself from different angles and POST THEM ON MN."

😉 😂

It looks really nice and I want to see it on a real person to see if I'm getting one too!

Rainbowshit · 20/03/2022 16:46

I'm 45 and a 14 and jumpsuits are my go to outfit for events.

notawittyname1954 · 20/03/2022 16:46

That is really nice. And yes you definitely can.

oviraptor21 · 20/03/2022 16:50

I'm going to add a note of caution - I tried some jumpsuits when I was late 40s and a size 14. Without fail they drew attention to my mum tum and large bum (didn't mind the bum so much but the mum tum was just awful). So I'd say, make sure you look at the side angle if you have anything more than the gentlest of curves there.

Thingsthatgo · 20/03/2022 16:54

I love a jumpsuit, but I would make sure that you ask someone that you trust to give you an honest opinion of what it looks like from behind. Or better still get someone to take a photo for you.
I have a jumpsuit that I adored until I saw a photo of me from behind! OMG! It looked terrible Blush

BeanStew22 · 20/03/2022 16:55

I think it’s a good outfit, my only caution is the top & bottom being different colours will split you in two

1 colour /print would create a longer line

WellTidy · 20/03/2022 16:56

I am a 12-14, mid 40s and I LOVE jumpsuits. I’d wear them all the time if I could find enough that flatter. I have a few from previous seasons and am always looking at eBay or Vinted to see if anyone is selling one just like it but in a different colour.

WellTidy · 20/03/2022 17:00

this coast jumpsuit is super flattering. Comes in a regular, petite and plus fit.

Shmithecat2 · 20/03/2022 17:05

Blimey. I'm nearer 50 than 40, I love jumpsuits and have never questioned whether they're appropriate for me. Nor am I incontinent. JFC. How ancient do some of you thinks 40s is? Hmm

Wagsandclaws · 20/03/2022 17:57

I'm a size 16/18 and 50. I wear jumpsuits all the time.

Phase eight has some lovely 'occasion' jumpsuits but my bladder and wine combined unfortunately doesn't agree with the zip at the back so I have to get a wrap style one usually.

I've attached a pic, yes I'm aware that I look fat and a bit dumpy but hey 🤷‍♀️ I just wanted to say that being in your 40's and wearing a jumpsuit at a size 14 will Look lovely ☺️ I love me some jumpsuits!

NeedWineNow · 20/03/2022 18:02

59 and size 14 here and yes, you can definitely wear a jumpsuit - why not? I've just bought a wide legged one for my holiday.

GreekGod · 20/03/2022 18:03

@Wagsandclaws - what a lovely thing to do for the OP. You do not look dumpy at all, in fact, you look really great, the jumpsuit really suits you. Gorgeous blouse too.
