Can a 45 year old size 14 get away with a jumpsuit?

I have a smartish event coming up at work and really like the look of this jumpsuit.

But I am 45 size 14 with chunky upper arms and 5ft5.

I’m not good with clothes so looking for advise - would something like this work?

@Wagsandclaws. You don't look dumpy at all. I think its a really good shape on you, very flattering, and you look great. Hmm, I too am a 16/18 and I'm now rethinking my wardrobe!

Nouveaunew · 20/03/2022 18:11

Of course

Goodbyemylover · 20/03/2022 18:29

@Florence4170

It looks lovely. As you are 45 though, are you dexterous enough to get our of it in time if you need a tinkle? 😬
Errr...not quite sure if you are implying that a 45 year old is arthritic or incontinent?! She's 45, not 85 love!

She's only 45! 🧐 I'm 62 and perfectly able to get in and out of clothes without needing assistance. I mean, really! So insulting. 😤
Savvysix1984 · 20/03/2022 18:44

That jumpsuit is lovely. I personally can't wear them as they don't suit me but would if I could.

VorpalSword · 20/03/2022 19:56

I have ordered and will post photos once it arrives.

Really like that, I’m early 40s and size 12, I wear jumpsuits all the time. I have a strong bladder! I might order this one for a work event!

SquirrelG · 21/03/2022 05:39

Wear whatever you like - I like the look of that - though I think it helps to be tall to make jumpsuits look flattering. I am truly short, more than you! So I don't wear them. Heels are the answer as the poster above said.

My short colleague wore one to work last week and looked gorgeous. I don't think she was wearing heels either. If you want to wear a jumpsuit then wear one OP - there are no rules!

JudgeRindersMinder · 21/03/2022 08:47

I know nothing due to being in the fashion wilderness for years due to weight issues, but that’s bloody gorgeous!

EssexLioness · 21/03/2022 09:10

I’m 44 and a size 12. I only started wearing jumpsuits last year and was surprised how flattering they are. I am quite curvy with large bum and thighs so always thought they would make me look much bigger, especially at 5’4. I wear them in summer with flat sandals and they look really good. I do find patterned jumpsuits more flattering than block colour though

sleepyhoglet · 21/03/2022 11:33

Yes it's a nice one and doesn't actually look like a jumpsuit. Think about it going to the loo though

Londoncallingtothefarawaytowns · 21/03/2022 17:50

Im 40 this year and havent considered an age limot on them ! Shock i think they are chic

Mylifesadrama · 21/03/2022 17:54

You’re 45 not 85! I can’t believe you’re even asking the question at your age! I’m 52 and the only reason I haven’t bought one is because I’m scared of looking like a teletubbie where I’ve put on so much weight! 🤣

NannaKaren · 21/03/2022 20:39

Yes !

StrictlySinging · 21/03/2022 20:44

Well you should absolutely wear what you like.

It will go very well with heels and a bladder of steel.

Dillydollydingdong · 21/03/2022 20:51

Yes, of course. I'm 70 and I've got one. Size 14 and 5ft5" too!

Sickoffamilydrama · 21/03/2022 23:01

Snap @Wagsandclaws I definitely need a shirt like yours to go with it.

@Sickoffamilydrama that looks soooo nice on you 😍.

I loved it because it's ponte and the shape is perfect for my apple shaped body. Good old mint velvet incase anyone is wondering.

The zip at the front makes it so easy to go out for cocktails in ( easy to take off for the loo ) the amount of jumpsuits I've passed up because of the zip is at the back and my inability to manage it.

Hmmm a couple of people have mentioned the 'shirt' now - erm I hate to say it but it's the dreaded 'per una' range at m and s - oh so beloved of mumsnet 🤣 it was a really pretty shirt though tbf.

AnnieSnap · 22/03/2022 00:35

Ha 😂 I hope so because this 62-year-old size 16 does regulary! Wear what you enjoy. Fashion is for every age!

AnnieSnap · 22/03/2022 00:45

Here’s my 62-year-old, size 16 self in one of my favourite jumpsuits

@AnnieSnap you look fab!

OP yours looks lovely, I hope you like it when it arrives. If it's not the right fit or awkward to get in and out of, you could easily recreate the look with separate pants and wrap top, which would probably be more versatile things to have in your wardrobe.

Wagsandclaws · 22/03/2022 07:52

Found another of my favourite jumpsuit pics, I was 1.5
Stone heavier in this photo so I think it was a size 20.

It was a cold spring day so it's been styled a bit frumpily with the cardigan Ect but the jumpsuit itself is a really flattering one ( asos curve ).

@AnnieSnap that looks really lovely, that shade of green is just 👌🏻

Can't wait to see a pic of yours op

Alwayscalminacrisis · 22/03/2022 09:35

Hi OP, I hope the jumpsuit arrives safe and sound - I am a very solid size 14, and 5’3 and 47. I have a very broad set of shoulders, bit of a C section tummy and a ‘generous’ bottom. I’m muscular (weightlifting) so I was quite worried about wearing jumpsuits but have recently bought two and they are incredibly flattering. Both in petite cuts, one River Island with a wrap top style, one black and wide leg from M and S with very thin straps. Good underwear and a nice shoe and they both look quite elegant. I bet yours looks brilliant too 😁
