Not keen on Disney but I do like this and I don’t even like Batman -

Do people really judge others by their bags and backpacks? I had no idea. I do judge people based on what they wear, like everyone does, but seeing as bags aren't kept on the body in the same way a jumper is, I find them pretty inconsequential. Perhaps because I choose bags based mainly on their practicality, not on their fashion credentials.
Get one if you like them, OP.

My colleague is 35 and dresses like an actual Disney character! She is a primary school teacher to be fair but dresses like this even on her weekends. She is really interesting, confident, creative, approachable - and you can tell all of this from her fashion choice. She will wear Disney back packs, dungarees with patches sewn in or pictures of her favourite characters, chunky bright jeweller, glittery makeup, pigtails with head boppers or big scrunchies.

I absolutely adore her and envy her lack of self-consciousness.

My advice would be - if you're on here asking whether or not you should buy it, you will likely always feel self-conscious/uncomfortable when you wear it. You need a massive air of 'IDGAF' to pull off a quirky style.

Here comes the invective. Instead of throwing insults you could try dealing with the truth, which is that irrespective of your personal taste in glittery disney-based clothing and accessories, you won’t be taken seriously if you choose to adorn yourself with them.

Which is fine if you don’t want to be taken seriously, although your colleagues may have something to say about that. If you make that choice though, don’t cry that you are paid less than men. You don’t see them trying to dress like children or acting ‘cute’ or submissive or childlike. Why do you think that is?

Even if a few men did start carrying kids’ Disney backpacks etc., they would soon be persuaded out of it by their friends instead of encouraged to keep on because ‘life is too short’.

Notagoodnight · 14/03/2022 08:07

Most of my bags have disney on. Live is too short not to carry something that makes you smile

Notagoodnight · 14/03/2022 08:14

you won’t be taken seriously if you choose to adorn yourself with them.
Haha Haha! You do realise you can have a different bag for work and home right?

You don’t see them trying to dress like children
A woman with a Disney bag... looks like a woman with a Disney bag!!! I'm not going to suddenly be mistaken for a 10 year old as a 40 year woman.

And if you haven't seen men with cartoon t-shirts and bags I reckon you've been hanging out with men who take themselves waaay too seriously!!

Nowmum43 · 14/03/2022 08:20

I've got a few Disney loungefly bags and I'm 44! I love them and always get compliments on them when I use them Smile plus I wouldn't care what anyone else thought Grin

ImInStealthMode · 14/03/2022 08:21

I know a good number of men with 'big jobs' in Finance (perils of living in a tax haven). Star Wars / Marvel / DC socks & ties are common Confused

Lurking9to5 · 14/03/2022 08:26

I agree with the others, but could you find a middle ground. Fiorelli do some rucksacks that have flowers on them. They're lovely and not as twee as the cath kidston laminated floral rucksacks which I wouldn't use for work either.
some sort of middle ground

are owls better than unicorns?

Mullercornershop · 14/03/2022 08:28

@iamthewombat is making perfect sense and I think some people are being obtuse.

There is never inappropriate clothing, only inappropriate occasions.

It is not about internalised misogyny. It’s about recognising that misogyny exists and doing everything you can to mitigate this.

If women have to use a bag with no personality to be taken seriously in professional settings then that’s what they must do. My husband doesn’t walk into the boardroom with an Avengers rucksack.

Wear what you like at weekends or when socialising etc.

Qwill · 14/03/2022 08:29

Agree with PP, if you have to ask, then you don’t seem that confident and might be uncomfortable wearing it out.

DaisyWaldron · 14/03/2022 08:41

Several of my friends (male and female) are software engineers who happily wear cartoon merch to work and earn ten times as much as I do, even though I carry an understated black tote.

Figmentofimagination · 14/03/2022 08:52

Get the bag! Wear what you want! Who cares what people think. Life it to short to not do what you want.
I'm 34 and I have one. In my mid-late 20's I was all about projecting the image of a grown up so no slogan tops, plain bag etc. But i've realised I just don't care. So I have my little mermaid loungefly and wear character tops because that is me, the proper me. It doesn't stop me being an adult or being a parent.
And no I don't think I'm 7 or let everyone else make decisions for me).

MaryAndHerNet · 14/03/2022 09:15

Even if a few men did start carrying kids’ Disney backpacks etc., they would soon be persuaded out of it by their friends instead of encouraged to keep on because ‘life is too short’.

Of men are too feeble to wear and carry what they like and get pressured out of doing things they enjoy by their friends, that's on them.
maybe if people weren't so judgemental over insignificant things, people would be happier in themselves and the whole world would improve..

JofraArchersFastestBall · 14/03/2022 09:15

So, there you go. If you work in a job where the opinions of po faced misogynists might hold you back, then maybe don't wear it for work.

I find I care less about what strangers think of me now I'm in my 30s, it's very freeing. My qualifications, experience and attitude all matter more than my accessories at work.

DH has a "big job". He has gone to work this morning with Mr Grumpy socks on, carrying his Star Wars lunchbox.

I think this thread perfectly illustrates that some will love your bag, some will hate your bag.

It's how it makes YOU feel that matters. You don't need approval from anyone else.

I just wish I could find ANY women's bag to fit a hideous work-issued 18" laptop!

SleepingStandingUp · 14/03/2022 09:41

You don’t see them trying to dress like children or acting ‘cute’ or submissive or childlike. Why do you think that is? yes because there's no scope between a cute bag used in a weekend and walking into your job as a high court judge in pop socks and pinafore, pigtails, sucking a lollipop and asking the first man your see "exquse me, do you fink I oughta send the bad man to jaily-waily?"

Even if a few men did start carrying kids’ Disney backpacks etc., they would soon be persuaded out of it by their friends instead of encouraged to keep on because ‘life is too short’. Disney owns Marvel. Enough said

Monty27 · 14/03/2022 09:42

@justaweeone

Life's too shorts, I'd get what makes me happy
Oh that was a lovely Freudian slip of the tongue. We have backpack will travel wearing shorts. OP if you like it have it ☺️
BusterGonad · 14/03/2022 09:42

I've never really understood adults that wear Disney but if you like it, get it. Personally I agree that wearing it somewhere you want to be taken seriously wouldn't be the best idea. But what do I know?

PomRuns · 14/03/2022 09:48

I've a rose gold Disney back back and DD8 has a stitch backpack. So many lovely things in Loungefly.
I honestly do not care what anyone think but we've also got some matching shoes so I've clearly some issues.
