Pubic hair removal

shouldhestay · 12/03/2022 08:11

Sported quite a full bush (trimmed) all my life. Waxed once which was horrid.
I want to start swimming and get the bush under control.
What do people use for hair removal?

Please don't comment on keeping the bush. Each to their own choices.

I use an electric razor as wet shaving gives me horrible ingrown hairs. It takes the hair down to about 0.5 - 1mm.

FlyingGeeseAgain · 12/03/2022 08:13

I’ve always had my bikini line waxed. Shave it?

PeacefulPrune · 12/03/2022 08:15

Persevere with waxing, it gets less painful as long as you go regularly like every 8 weeks. After a few times hair grows back much thinner.

stickygotstuck · 12/03/2022 08:16

Sorry OP, can't help, I am so out of my depth here (would never consider removal myself) but I'd be interested to know what people mean by 'trimming' on this context. I've always wondered. Scissors always springs to mind, which I'm guessing is way off?

Startuplife · 12/03/2022 08:16

I’m afraid I’ve always waxed as shaving gives me horrendous ingrown hairs. I did do a course of 8 laser sessions around 6 years ago but it left it extremely patchy and now I do need to wax regularly again. I think it’s a good option but it’s an expensive initial cost and then upkeep.

I use an epilator on my legs and underarms which I love but I’m not brave enough to do my bikini line with it!

Fairislefandango · 12/03/2022 08:26

I trim (with scissors) for my own comfort (not for aesthetic reasons- I don't give a monkey's what it looks like). I find a full bush too hot and sweaty under layers of clothes.

I tried waxing and shaving briefly when I was much younger - nope, both too uncomfortable, and unnecessary. I would happily wear a normal swimming costume when just trimmed, but if not you could wear a shorts tankini or all-in-one. I have a couple of those and prefer them to traditional swimming costumes anyway.

hopeishere · 12/03/2022 08:29

Trimming - scissors or an electric shaver. Some people have long pubic hair (myself included) Round the sides and underneath.

I used to wax but have now had it lasered. But just bit that would be outside the edge of my pants. I still have a full bush. Highly recommend it. I'm very pale with very dark hair so it worked well on me.

MimosaFields · 12/03/2022 08:30

Had it all Lasered years ago. Best decision I ever made

WeddingHangover · 12/03/2022 08:32

Laser!

WafflesOrIceCream · 12/03/2022 08:33

I've always waxed!Painful but so worth out as the hair growth is not that bad after.

WafflesOrIceCream · 12/03/2022 08:34

Sorry it should say "worth it"

GeneLovesJezebel · 12/03/2022 08:35

Electric shaver on number 2.
Shave the sides if going swimming.

Girlintheframe · 12/03/2022 08:36

I've waxed, sugared and used cream. Now I just shave. Quick and easy to do when in the shower and keeps on top of everything.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 12/03/2022 08:38

Beard trimmer, they work a treat.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 12/03/2022 08:38

Tbh I wear a swimsuit with legs so that I don't have to bother most of the time, but if wearing a bikini I trim it with scissors then shave round the sides.

Sproutandcrumpet · 12/03/2022 08:40

I'm going to buy a swimsuit with short legs to avoid having to deal with stray pubic hair before swimming.

Chakraleaf · 12/03/2022 08:45

I just trim around the costume

CoreyTaylorisHot · 12/03/2022 08:47

I got horrendous ingrown hairs from shaving so I go for a wax every 7 weeks. I don't like to loose all the hair either

RishiRich · 12/03/2022 08:58

When you tried waxing, was it strip wax (removed with strips of paper) or hot wax (no paper)? Hot wax is so much less painful. I'd never do anything else for public hair.

NiLunNiLautre · 12/03/2022 09:18

Small electric trimmer to keep everything super short and barely there. Not a proper shave so as to avoid rash or ingrown hairs. Feels clean and comfortable.

Charley50 · 12/03/2022 09:29

Cut it so it's shorter, then shave, for me. I found waxing painful and annoying, whereas a good razor (men's one), on a soapy lather (ooo-er) in the bath or shower is no probs at all.

StarlightLady · 12/03/2022 09:46

I’ve been “all off” since my late teens, early 40s now and wouldn’t be any other way. The lovely thing about hair removal is you can change your mind how it’s done as often as you like, it is not a tablet of stone. Speaking of tablets of stone it was also a service offered in Ancient Greek and Ancient Roman bathhouses; it is nothing new.

It certainly makes you feel less sweaty in the warmer weather.

Over the years l have regularly changed from hot wax, efficient, but you have to put up with the regrowth, to more or less a daily whizz round with a razor in the shower (use hair conditioner, the razor glides), to Veet a couple of times a week.

Vert appears to be gentler now and the awful smell has gone. I tend to leave on for 10 minutes and coax the hair away with a razor as opposed to the plastic thingy provided.

Should you opt for waxing again, the first time is the worst, take a couple of pain killers first, don’t get done immediately before a period and avoid sex the same day; overly sensitive.

theDudesmummy · 12/03/2022 10:04

Swim shorts or swim dress.

StarlightLady · 12/03/2022 10:12

@theDudesmummy - But the OP says “Don’t comment on keeping the bush”, so why would she want to wear swim shorts or a swim dress?

AuntieMarys · 12/03/2022 10:27

I have mine waxed. Have done for 20 odd years....doesn't hurt at all.
