Pubic hair removal

shouldhestay · 12/03/2022 08:11

Sported quite a full bush (trimmed) all my life. Waxed once which was horrid.
I want to start swimming and get the bush under control.
What do people use for hair removal?

Please don't comment on keeping the bush. Each to their own choices.

I have a Lumea and it’s amazing. If you need or want to remove hair elsewhere as well and have the budget for it that would be my top recommendation. Definitely well worth the money if your hair/skin colour is well suited.

Otherwise, I’d probably just trim it very short at the sides - that way you avoid the potential problematic effects of shaving. A little electric trimmer would be my choice of implement.

Wax but only a place that uses Lycon wax or similar. It sticks to the hairs, not the skin. I honestly barely feel it and no rash on my very sensitive skin. Downside is the expense. At least £50 for everything off. I am in central London though

Back when I used to remove body hair I found waxing the best solution, though not the most pleasant. Shaving always left me with bumps, rashes, ingrowing hairs etc no matter what devices or products I used. I tried an epilator once and it was like torture. Waxing hurts but at least it's quick, effective, and the results are pretty long lasting. Since I stopped removing body hair I wear board shorts but I don't actually go to the swimming pool, just to the beach.

Multicolouredsequins · 12/03/2022 13:38

When people say they wax everything, do they mean everything, lips and crack/butt hole too?! 😳 I'd die of embarrassment. What about if you have piles? You'd have to have absolute trust in the hygiene too, I imagine there's a risk of infection and things like HPV possibly if the practitioner was careless? A GP friend of mine said a lot of appointments are for infected boils from waxing. Have people used veet on those areas or is it too painful? What do people do when waxed is growing out? Sorry, so many questions, genuinely interested!

BathTangle · 12/03/2022 13:42

IPL works well (though does depend on hair / skin colour). Expensive for each session but long lasting and doesn't hurt as much as waxing (if at all).

theDudesmummy · 12/03/2022 14:12

I understood that comment to mean that she is keeping the bush (as she said she wanted to get it "under control", not remove it) and didn't want comments judging her for that.

theDudesmummy · 12/03/2022 14:12

Sorry, that reply was to @StarlightLady

StarlightLady · 12/03/2022 14:44

@Multicolouredsequins - See my post of 9:46 today, Veet Pure Inspirations, with a little help from the razor works for me. Don’t neglect the spot test though, different skin types react differently.

With regard to waxing, beauticians have seen it all before. And some do each other regularly too; perk of the job in a salon. With regard to hygiene, l am not a medic but l’m told that hot wax is sterile. But in short, if a salon would suggest to you that you wouldn’t eat your lunch there, go elsewhere.

StarlightLady · 12/03/2022 14:46

@theDudesmummy - l apologise if l misread it. It’s usually those of us who remove hair who get judged from my experience.

Lookingoutside · 12/03/2022 16:09

Soprano ice laser.

catfunk · 12/03/2022 19:52

hot wax or laser

Choices aren't made in a vacuum. Why feel the need to get rid of perfectly natural hair and follow porn trends?

Adapt the swimming costume to yourself, not yourself to the costume.

Adapt the swimming costume to yourself, not yourself to the costume.

I knew as a young teenager in the early eighties that I didn't want hair coming out of the sides of my costume and it was certainly nothing to do with porn.
StarlightLady · 12/03/2022 22:36

@VenezuelaChant - I assume you have hairy armpits, hairy legs, never wear makeup and never go to the hairdressers.

Startuplife · 12/03/2022 22:38

I’ve had a Brazilian and then a Hollywood wax since I was 16. It’s certainly nothing to do with porn. At 16 I was a competitive gymnast and would rather not have stray pubic hairs on display. Nowadays I simply despise body hair and feel much more comfortable without any. To me it’s no different to shaving my legs or underarms.

NiLunNiLautre · 13/03/2022 09:17

@VenezuelaChant I started trimming my pubes to almost nothing when I got to perimenopause due to horrifically heavy periods, and more sweatiness. I felt a lot more clean and comfortable so have kept it up.

It had the square root of fuck all to do with porn, and I'm pretty sure most women's choices in this regard also don't.

Branleuse · 13/03/2022 09:19

Its just hair not a thicket. Trim it down and then shave the bits you want to shave.

AuntFlorence · 13/03/2022 09:23

I use hair removal cream along my bikini line regularly. I can't be bothered with trimming it so once a month or so I use a razor to shave all the hair off, then it stops it getting too long (and importantly from not escaping my swimming costume!) but I like to do the perimeter more regularly and find if I shave that often I get nasty ingrown hairs so that why I use the hair removal cream between times. But I don't use it on my genital area just the perimeter if that makes sense

AuntFlorence · 13/03/2022 09:24

I have never had a bikini wax as I'm way too chicken! But I might get braver in future!

ArabeI · 13/03/2022 09:24

Originally waxed, currently shave, but am considering purchasing a Lumea so might try that for bikini line area.

LaraDeSalle · 13/03/2022 09:36

I’ve been completely hair free down below for decades. I used to get it waxed off but now as I’m older find it’s become sparse either through age or constant removal and I use a combination of a cream and a razor. I’ve never had a rash or ingrowing hair, thank goodness.

shouldhestay · 13/03/2022 21:40

I have noticed a few people mention the Lumea. Out of interest to those who go to a salon for a wax, wouldn't a Lumea do the job and put for itself pretty quickly and less painfully?
Just want to check I'm not missing something

I've had my lumea 7 years, has definitely paid for itself when I think what I would have spent on waxes.

tealandteal · 13/03/2022 21:45

You need to use the Lumea on shaven/waxed skin. Not the same day! I did have a pretty good routine of regular waxes (hot wax) and the Lumea which I have stopped since I got pregnant. Bikini line is still looks pretty good though after 6 months, very sparse.
