Pubic hair removal

Sported quite a full bush (trimmed) all my life. Waxed once which was horrid.
I want to start swimming and get the bush under control.
What do people use for hair removal?

Please don't comment on keeping the bush. Each to their own choices.

@shouldhestay on the waxing question, yes, it does pay for itself quickly. Within 12 months or so, I think. And that’s if you get the expensive model! Some people can’t use the lumea though, and some people don’t like the time it takes.

@TrooBloo

I use an electric razor as wet shaving gives me horrible ingrown hairs. It takes the hair down to about 0.5 - 1mm.
I usually do the same but I can't stand it feeling like a man's stubbly cheeks! Grin
MotherofAutism · 13/03/2022 21:55

@MimosaFields

Had it all Lasered years ago. Best decision I ever made
Surely it must've grown back at least partially, eventually?
Sofuckingsad · 13/03/2022 21:55

For folk who suffer ingrown hairs or rashes from shaving I can recommend using a cheap orange Bic man’s razor. The razors that have multiple blades (Venus?) are horrific for creating ingrown hairs.

shouldhestay · 13/03/2022 22:01

I shaved the sides this weekend and it's already itching terribly. I've always been fine shaving underneath but the sides aren't happy.
When I was younger my pubes only grew within the swimming costume triangle so I've never had to do the sides before.

@tealandteal

You need to use the Lumea on shaven/waxed skin. Not the same day! I did have a pretty good routine of regular waxes (hot wax) and the Lumea which I have stopped since I got pregnant. Bikini line is still looks pretty good though after 6 months, very sparse.
You cannot use Lumea if you've waxed. It just won't do anything. If uses the pigment in the remaining root of the hair that is left in the follicle after shaving, to do its job. Waxing removes that root. This is why Lumea doesn't work on blonde hair
sarahtalkstoomuch · 13/03/2022 22:04

@shouldhestay

I have noticed a few people mention the Lumea. Out of interest to those who go to a salon for a wax, wouldn't a Lumea do the job and put for itself pretty quickly and less painfully? Just want to check I'm not missing something
I think things like that work most effectively on pale skin and dark hair. I don’t find waxing painful, I’m really used to it, and I know it works well on me so I’m happy to keep paying. If I was left at home with a lumea, I know I’d cock it up somehow!
Jinglebellsoncake · 13/03/2022 22:05

Laser!

I don't know why people endure waxing. It's painful (so is laser, but at least laser is permanent!)

What does everyone do when it goes grey?

Its only painful the first few times. I have been having it for decades and I don't feel it at all.
noblegreenk · 13/03/2022 22:28

I wet shave with a razor. It's not ideal as regrowth can be itchy and I occasionally get ingrown hairs. But the alternatives are too costly/painful. Usually I keep my front bush and just tidy the sides. I also shave my undercarriage. Very occasionally I'll shave it all off, depends on my mood.

Mintlegs · 13/03/2022 22:31

What is the best type of laser?

AngelinaFibres · 13/03/2022 22:41
@theDudesmummy - But the OP says “Don’t comment on keeping the bush”, so why would she want to wear swim shorts or a swim dress?
Because then she can keep the bush

I didn't mention it in my earlier post, but that's another reason I decided to go for a very close trim! Blush
kittykarate · 14/03/2022 10:21

I use a manscaping trimmer - I give the majority a grade one (it was a grade 2 previously, but I lost that guard) , and then close trim with the guard off to do the stuff on the sides.

Cookiebear2010 · 16/03/2022 16:05

As regards to hygiene ladies - never go to a salon that double dips! This means the wax spatula is binned once it touches your skin and a new spatula is dipped fresh into the waxpot and then back to your skin. Alot of salons still double dip so RUN if you see this. Also hot wax is the only wax you should allow on your bikini area as strip is way too harsh.

Hawkins001 · 16/03/2022 16:07

My ex used a basic shaver.

Laser only works on dark hair with light skin. No good on blondes, redheads or on people of colour
Nouveaunew · 17/03/2022 23:29

@shouldhestay

I only get if waxed as I get a reaction to any other type of hair removal. I make sure it’s Lycon wax or similar (I.e.) the wax dries and they pull the wax off and no strips are needed. I’d be lying if I said it was painless but if you go to a salon that specialises in waxing, they’ll really minimise the pain.

FWIW I’m a feminist and I get the whole lot off!

Perfectlystill · 18/03/2022 06:49

I had mine lasered

SmugOldBag · 18/03/2022 07:03

I just use one of those trimmers you can get that has a razor on one end and a little battery powered trimmer on the other. Comes with a guard to give yourself a 'number 2' trim or remove it for a 'full tuppeny all off'. Can be used safely in the shower. Amazing.
I'm in Aus/Nz and it's this one. Not sure if there's similar in UK?

PoxyAndIKnowIt · 18/03/2022 07:20

Yes there is @SmugOldBag, I use something very similar to that. Cheap quick and easy!

Sailorsusan · 18/03/2022 07:56

I would get it waxed at a salon. I say would because I haven't bothered for a while but I get my legs waxed and considering adding bikini in again. Can't recommend a decent salon wax enough. Bit painful (less so subsequent times) but so faff free. Well worth the money.

StarlightLady · 18/03/2022 11:17

@Nouveaunew - Well done! I’m becoming tired of people claiming they are more of a feminist because they sport a bush. The 2 things are totally unrelated.

Noddy21 · 18/03/2022 11:23

I couldn’t shave down there, it itches toooooo much! I use Nair sensitive and it works a treat
