The colour is lovely. The long line cuts of the coat just don't do her any justice.

I agree the cut is awful. It needs a waist. The hat is good.

Cam's hat is too fussy.

It's Catherine Walker. I can only think of a single dress by CW that has not aged Kate massively

In that first picture in the Hello link above Kate looks amazing. The colour is so good on her, and she looks sparkling.

Then you see the full length and the long line of the coat does make her look stretched.

I love purple so Camilla looks fine to me, though I do agree about the fit.

Princess Alexandra looks very elegant.

Agree. They're beautifully cut but styles I'd expect to see on Camilla or Princess Alexandra. And that gigantic hat!!

I think KM's outfit today is awful IMHO. I really dislike the length on her and the colour doesn't suit her. I'm not a huge fan of blue on her anyway.

I love that colour on Kate but I’m not fond of the style. She did really well with hair, make up and accessories though. I love her dainty sapphire jewellery and the pillbox hat.

The angles of the photos really alter my perception of the outfit. In some of them she looks glorious, in others she looks really dowdy.

Thanks for the photos. Nice to look at something a bit frivolous in these worrying times.

I think the cobalt blue is a good colour for a formal event when you need to stand out. She's taken a lesson from the Queen there. And Kate looks so trim in it. And heaven knows how she walks in those shoes. I agree it's a bit cabin crew but it is a "working" outfit I suppose and coat dresses very practical. Not many women could get away with pockets on the hips like that!

I like Camilla's coat but the hat looks like a lampshade I'm afraid.

Wills very well groomed. I'd love my DH to have a valet! Grin

Nice to see Princess Alexandra who is an old hand at dressing for this sort of thing and always looks elegant.

I'm ill so actually watched the ceremony on TV. I honestly don't know why they don't just go for a concert rather than an awkward quasi-religious ceremony, which amounted to a collection of very good music, some not so good music, and the message of "be kind" and "God bless the Commonwealth". It comes across as a bit patronising imho.

As for the Bafta dresses ...I must be getting old ...but I've never seen so many odd unflattering dresses in odd colours...but maybe that's the idea? I am not a fan of the cut out waists, or whatever they are called. And a lot of the gowns seemed quite shapeless or tricksy for the sake of it.

I like Princess Alexandra's too and Camilla's.
What brooch is Camilla wearing ?
Are they pansies ?

Yes, I think that Camilla's brooches look like Pansies. I love Alexandra's brooch - it looks Art Deco, I'm guessing it was one of her mother's? Princess Marina was another very elegant and stylish person.

I’m not keen on Camilla’s outfit today, I think that shade of purple is too harsh for her, so drains all her colour away, leaving her looking washed out. The cut is completely wrong for her too, I’ve seen more elegant sacks of potatoes!
But she must like the Fiona Clare outfit herself, as she’s worn it several times now, complete with that ghastly “granny’s raffia lampshade” hat.
Honestly, what was her dresser thinking?

I like the bright royal blue of Kate’s outfit, and she must have stood out well in the gloomy Abbey. But I didn’t like her air hostess pill box hat and her coat was just too similar to all her many others.

Interestingly, in the main photo of the event on the BBC News website, Kate looks as though she is really laying the law down to Charlie! Oh to have been a fly on the wall there! Grin Grin

Thanks, @QueryA. I really like Kate's earrings and pendant. Good details on the rest of the jewellery. Alexandra often wears the pearl choker.

Ha @RomainingCalm, I've just been wasting time browsing old Catherine Walker outfits of Kate's to see if I could disprove @paradyning but I could not. They are amongst her dowdiest outfits, generally speaking. Coatdress Central.

I've taken a look at the CW website now too (thanks @RomainingCalm Grin) and have these two picked as likely contenders for Kate. One daywear; one evening-wear.

I think if you go the coat-and-dress route then they really need to be the same length, and that's the main thing I don't like about Kate's outfit. Also yes, she must be freezing, or entirely encased in thermal underwear, surely?

That silver gown is seriously fabulous, but so are those black gowns - beautiful but with a cool edge to them.

It was a lovely day in London so I doubt she was cold.
