Is this too ‘look at me’ for a wedding?

Apart from the evening style, which I can overlook, is the gold too dressy for a small town afternoon wedding?

It's lovely the photos don't do it justice, the video really shows how pretty it is.
I'd wear it all year round but then I've never gone for the you must wear certain colours at certain times of the year.

MargotEmin · 06/03/2022 10:40

Ignore the predictable bleats of 'it's too dark' - the darkness is balanced beautifully by the gold and the floaty fabric. It's very tasteful, I'd be thrilled if someone wore that to my wedding (who wants to look out over a sea of pastel colours, really?)

RosesAndHellebores · 06/03/2022 10:45

Well indeed Margot.

Whydoesthecatalwaysdothat · 06/03/2022 10:45

It's lovely but it doesn't look worth £425.

LightsoftheNorth · 06/03/2022 10:49

I think it's lovely, and fine for a wedding. We're in mainland Europe at the mo, so the page automatically switched to the € page. It's £100 cheaper here Shock at approx £326. That's a huge difference isn't it.

Viviennemary · 06/03/2022 10:49

I like it. It's fine for a wedding.

HumourReplacementTherapy · 06/03/2022 11:03

It's gorgeous
I bet it looks like it's worth every penny irl actually.
Please order and post a pic Smile

It’s beautiful! One of my best friends wore a very sparkly black and gold dress to my wedding and I didn’t bat an eyelid at it. Those boots the model is wearing with it are awful though!

VenusClapTrap · 06/03/2022 11:08

It’s nice, but you need to avoid black accessories I think.

Londondreams1 · 06/03/2022 11:17

@YellowAndGreenToBeSeen ooo yes, accenting to make it less harsh

@VenusClapTrap yes exactly

Beautiful dress - love it. If money was no object I would definitely buy it as it s the right length for me and just looks like it would be very flattering.

Rainbowshit · 06/03/2022 11:21

Gorgeous. Maybe wear a cropped jacket over it to lighten it up for daytime.

It’d look lovely - any of the colours, the rust, the blue… I’d avoid the gold (other than shoes or a hair accessory (not a fascinator!) - they’ll work really well in the evening) as it would be a tad ‘Midas’! But the other colours pulled in would really work with it.

DoleWhipFloat · 06/03/2022 11:24

I really like the dress (but not with those boots)…

However, it’s quite dark for a wedding. I’m not sure I’d wear it myself.

DoleWhipFloat · 06/03/2022 11:28

I don’t think you can do much to ‘accent’ this dress. It’s designed to require very little isn’t it. It’s perfect for an evening out to the theatre or something and gives me gorgeous Native American vibes.

If you add a cardigan or shrug, you’ll look jumble sale, especially if it’s lighter.

I’d buy it and save it for another occasion.

TenoringBehind · 06/03/2022 11:40

It’s nice but not £425 nice. I think it would look odd with anything over it - cape, cardigan, jacket - so would only wear it to a summer wedding (it to a wedding at all).

I don’t think it’s ‘look at me’ at all.

Londondreams1 · 06/03/2022 11:47

@DoleWhipFloat @TenoringBehind points to consider, thank you

It’s nice, I think. Reminds me a bit of a moth though.

TheHoptimist · 06/03/2022 12:00

I think it is too casual for most weddings
Like it is shown in the image- with boots it is for a casual lunch or a trip to Asda

Yebbie · 06/03/2022 12:05

@MichelleScarn

Kyle Jenner on the other hand at JB wedding... maybe a little 'look at me'! Grin
You think Kylies was bad look what Kendall wore to her friends wedding! Grin
CaraherEIL · 06/03/2022 12:10

I agree with Margot, it’s stunning and not a typical pastel which is so much more interesting. It’s also just a beautiful beautiful dress. I think adding stand alone gorgeous items to your wardrobe that you can wear for years and years is a much better way to shop than buying outfits for particular events that lean so much one particular way in terms of style/ colour that you just don’t wear then again.

CaraherEIL · 06/03/2022 12:17

Also I think you could wear any cropped length jacket with or the little fur cape could look stunning there is no reason you couldn’t make that dress lean a little 1920s/ 1930s with the right shoes etc. I think it looks very luscious but also quite fragile and delicate and you could team with velvet or faux fur and it would have a very different look to how they’ve styled it in the video

DogsAndGin · 06/03/2022 12:19

It’s lovely! A bit dark for a spring afternoon though

ChickenStripper · 06/03/2022 12:25

It looks autumnal.
