Is this too ‘look at me’ for a wedding?

Apart from the evening style, which I can overlook, is the gold too dressy for a small town afternoon wedding?

@MargotEmin

Ignore the predictable bleats of 'it's too dark' - the darkness is balanced beautifully by the gold and the floaty fabric. It's very tasteful, I'd be thrilled if someone wore that to my wedding (who wants to look out over a sea of pastel colours, really?)
You would be thrilled or not thrilled by what your guests wore to your wedding?

@Sheeeeeysh

Nice but looks like a £40 new look dress. Would never pay 425!
I think you need your eyes tested.
BusterGonad · 06/03/2022 12:44

I don't see the problem with the colour for a wedding, there are too old fashioned wedding rules. I think it's beautiful.

Panda8383 · 06/03/2022 12:48

It’s a lovely dress and very appropriate for a wedding x

TottersBlankly · 06/03/2022 12:50

Doesn’t seem bad value for 78% silk, 22% metallic fabrics … (Given average mark-ups.) I love a bargain but you can’t wear it if it sells out. And hiring’s no good if it’s something you’d like to wear often.

Dresses are funny things cost wise. I find high and low are where the good stuff is (the two most beautiful dresses I’ve ever owned were a Jil Sander that cost £500 in the mid-nineties, and a printed mesh miracle that was about £30 from Top Shop a few years ago.) Mid-range just seems too well behaved and … ingratiating.

Your wedding guest dress is by far the best thing on the website!

I love it. I have a wedding in October. Might have to consider this.

Gardeningcreature · 06/03/2022 18:19

It looks great op, perfectly fine for a wedding.

Terfydactyl · 06/03/2022 18:35

I'd buy it for pretty much any event, but definitely a wedding. Its lovely, well worth the money as its silk. Itll last quite some time and can be used at many events. It's a pretty classic style so could still be worn in 10 years or more.

The only thing putting me off is the dry clean only. I mean I understand why its dry clean, but I'm a lazy bugger and it'll rarely get to the cleaners.
But for all I know you live 30 ft from one, I'd have to make a special trip.

Thedailyfailx · 06/03/2022 18:43

It's beautiful. I would wear it to a wedding any time of year, just accessorise to suit season. It's certainly not to dark with all the pretty detail.

MargotEmin · 06/03/2022 19:34

You would be thrilled or not thrilled by what your guests wore to your wedding?

I'm very much into personal style, creativity and design and if someone made the effort for my wedding and wore something really striking I'd be appreciative, yes.

I remember at a school friend's wedding the bride clinked my glass and congratulated me on my beautiful dress which was a lovely compliment, what's wrong with that?

Conversely though, I wouldn't bat an eyelid or care at all if anyone chose nor to make an effort or if they wore something neutral - each to their own, but if someone was beautifully turned out why wouldn't I be happy?

BeaLola · 06/03/2022 19:57

That's a wow dress - if I had the figure to wear it and sone events to go to (rather than lunch at in with DH ) I would wear it - definitely not with boots though Smile

Fairyliz · 06/03/2022 20:16

Too dark for a spring wedding and the priceShock

CambsAlways · 06/03/2022 20:54

Not a fan of this for wedding sorry it’s too dark for me

Verite1 · 07/03/2022 10:43

I agree about the photos. It’s only when you see the vid that you appreciate how beautiful it is (and not too dark at all!) If you can afford it OP, I would get it. It’s beautiful and unusual.

notwavingbutdrowning5 · 07/03/2022 14:30

I don't understand why you can't wear dark colours to a spring wedding. Haven't we moved beyond 'the rules'? And does it mean you can't wear light colours to a winter wedding? Genuinely baffled.

It's a beautiful dress, btw.

MarshaBradyo · 07/03/2022 14:33

Beautiful dress and great for a wedding

RubyFox · 07/03/2022 14:49

It's a beautiful dress and perfectly suitable for a wedding at any time of year. I'd bag it before it sells out if I were you Smile

It's a classic style and you should be able to get plenty of wear out of it at other events.

To those saying it's not worth the money, it's clearly in the op's price bracket so as long as she's happy with it, that's all that counts.

TheBigPeach · 07/03/2022 16:38

That’s lovely! (You would be underdressed at some of the weddings I’ve been to!)
