Is this too ‘look at me’ for a wedding?

Apart from the evening style, which I can overlook, is the gold too dressy for a small town afternoon wedding?

But I agree it’s not somber at all

It's beautiful, lovely for a wedding and versatile too so I'm sure you'd get plenty of wear out if it.

Nelliephant1 · 06/03/2022 10:00

Gorgeous. Enjoy wearing it I'm sure you'll look fab

Swebby · 06/03/2022 10:01

Or even evening dinners/parties full stop! You’d want black or gold strappy shoes and bag presumably…

OldTinHat · 06/03/2022 10:02

It's a bit gloomy imo. Great for a Christmas event perhaps but not a spring wedding.

And as PPs have said - the cost of it!! Bloody hellfire! No way. It doesn't look worth anywhere near that, I saw a similar dress in a charity shop yesterday for £3.50!

VerbenaGirl · 06/03/2022 10:02

I think it would be absolutely fine for a wedding - it’s got thar tea-dress style, but the print/colour gives it a nice edge.

BunTooti · 06/03/2022 10:05

Oh please don't reconsider. It's beautiful, I actually did a little gasp at the loveliness when I saw the vid.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 06/03/2022 10:06

i love it

SirChenjins · 06/03/2022 10:09

Love it for an evening do - not so much for an afternoon wedding, with the black and gold it looks too much like a party frock (albeit a gorgeous one)

KindlyKanga · 06/03/2022 10:10

@Londondreams1

I’m reconsidering it for the wedding now due to it being black (but trying to think of another good excuse to get it)
No the black is fine as there is sooo much gold. Its beautiful.
RosesAndHellebores · 06/03/2022 10:16

I think it's lovely. What would you wear over it in case the weather's a bit chilly?

It's the sort of dress I would get a lot of wear from afterwards: opera, parties, smart dinners, etc. It's also a good price point for an occasion dress that will be well worn. Wear it 10 times and it's £42.50 a pop.

FridayiminlovewithRobertSmith · 06/03/2022 10:18

I’ve worn black for weddings including my brothers. I love this dress please buy it so I can live vicariously through you!

PS. What’s the sizing like? I’ve been nosing around their website and seen lots more gorgeous things.

upperdown · 06/03/2022 10:21

I think it's beautiful and I bet irl it looks even better. It's classy and understated. You're paying for cut and fabric, it will hang beautifully.

Perfect for a wedding, maybe with a gold feathery clip thing in your hair.

Londondreams1 · 06/03/2022 10:22

@RosesAndHellebores A small cardigan, I think.
I like these capes for weddings but again, not in black when the dress is black, and I’m still sensitive to the ‘look at me’ aspect

It’s beautiful but a bit ch-ching!!

RosesAndHellebores · 06/03/2022 10:26

I think you could get away with a black Cape as you have posted. Particularly if you wear a gold headband or something.

Am going to look at the website now.

Sheeeeeysh · 06/03/2022 10:26

Nice but looks like a £40 new look dress. Would never pay 425!

RelentlessForwardProgress · 06/03/2022 10:28

I think its a beautiful dress and in the video you can see where the money is going, if that makes sense!

I don't think its at all right for spring day time wedding though.....

Itsbackagain · 06/03/2022 10:30

That's lovely and not too look at me at all.

AuntieMarys · 06/03/2022 10:31

I love that and I never wear dresses!

DillDanding · 06/03/2022 10:33

I think it’s perfect for a wedding.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 06/03/2022 10:33

It would look amazing with a cape (and I like the gold headband / clip idea too). I’d wear gold close toed heeled sandals. Burnished gold clutch. Or dark, glossy (subtle metallic) green clutch.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 06/03/2022 10:34

Scrap the green! I mis-remembered. Blue metallic clutch would look amazing!

whiteworldgettingwhiter · 06/03/2022 10:37

It's beautiful. Really well cut and sits nicely.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 06/03/2022 10:39

www.selfridges.com/GB/en/cat/bottega-veneta-the-pouch-leather-clutch-bag_R03697245/#colour=Lavander%20Silver

This is NOT 100% the right bag but the shape and colour would be amazing (just need it in satin or metallic!)
