What is the most expensive body wash you have ever bought?

What was it and was it worth it or not? Literal money down the drain? I bought an Acqua di Parma shower gel last year. I've only used it once or twice since for obvious reasons. So nice but for the money I'd be keeping it as long as possible! I don't think it was worth it either. Maybe nice for a treat but there's a limit. What's the most expensive body wash you've ever bought and would you buy it again or not?

I don’t think shower gel is one of those things that’s worth spending a lot of money on, unless I’m missing something? I use Sanex or Superdrug Vitamin E, both leave me clean with soft skin.

SandyClaws6 · 16/02/2022 23:41

I agree, I wouldn't choose to spend much money on shower gels whereas I'd happily spend extra on shampoos and conditioners for example. That said, I have been gifted some nice shower gels.

From what I've tried I've really enjoyed using Loccitane (both the Verbena and Almande Oil) as well as the Elemis shower cream and definitely think they felt more luxurious then normal. Although it's probably not something I would buy for myself, if I was in the market for a nicer shower gel I would happily buy any of these.

At a more reasonable price, I also really like Rituals.

Imabouttoexplode · 16/02/2022 23:45

I love the yellow clarins one and Clinique aromatics. They smell divine and are worth every penny imo. Nothing from the cheaper ranges even comes close.

LaBellina · 16/02/2022 23:48

I never buy such expensive shower gels, I think they’re a waste of money.
Bar soap on the other hand…when I was working full time and had no DC I would treat myself sometimes to Chanel Coco Mademoiselle bar soap.

Iamthewombat · 16/02/2022 23:53

I tried Noble Isle shower gel at a posh hotel and it was so lovely. The Rhubarb Rhubarb one is the nicest. It is stupid money but I still buy it.

itsoveritshard · 16/02/2022 23:53

Jo Malone shower oil. It smells amazing and does leave your skin nice and moisturised BUT I get washed with soap first then use it because I'm not so sure I'd feel properly clean otherwise.

AllLopsided · 16/02/2022 23:56

I've bought (and been gifted) some Jo Malone ones in the past. They do last longer because you only need a small amount, and they smell great! However I think L'Occitane and Molton Brown are as good and a bit cheaper (I got L'Occtane Verbena and mint in the sale recently - 250ml for €10.50.) I'm more into bar soap at the moment and have mostly got rid of my shower gel habit... then was given the Aesop rose one for my birthday recently. It smells lovely and feels good on the skin but the scent isn't long lasting so I don't think I'd buy it for myself. Would rather spend the money on a body lotion if I was going to splash out Grin as the scent lasts longer.

Ra12345 · 17/02/2022 00:18

Just use it op. You might drop dead tomorrow and leave half a bottle behind. How sad. Life is too short to save anything for best.

NalPolishRemover · 17/02/2022 00:26

We use L'occitane shower gel & bar soaps every day
I was given a bottle of Tom Ford as a birthday gift with a body lotion & I did eek them out!

I've also had Jo Malone soap & shower gel & bath oil & also liked them

Santa Maria Novella is probably the most expensive I've had

SiobhanSharpe · 17/02/2022 00:29

I like Elemis 'revitalise me' shower gel. £22.
And Clarins Eau Dynamisante moussant shower gel £21.50
Or, a bit cheaper,
The White Company 'Flowers' shower gel £13. Matching body lotion is lovely too.

SiobhanSharpe · 17/02/2022 00:32

@NailPolish I love the Santa Maria Novella stuff , I've just ordered some of their scented wax tablets to hang in the wardrobe. They smell divine.
Which fragrance did you have?

allfurcoatnoknickers · 17/02/2022 00:49

I got given an Hermès Eau d'Orange shower gel as a gift once, but the most expensive I ever bought for myself was the Glossier one which is...not expensive at all.

Shower gel isn't where I tend to splurge, but I'll never say no to a posh one as a gift.

That being said, I use the Aesop dog shampoo on my dogs...

Inthesameboatatmo · 17/02/2022 06:20

Loccitaine sweet almond shower oil. I felt all fancy while using but definitely not worth it. I now buy amazing soap instead lasts longer.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 17/02/2022 06:29

I love nice shower gels, I have sensitive skin so it's one of the few products I can get away with. I don't use body lotions, scrubs etc and can only use certain shampoos. My favourite shower gels include Elemis, Neom, L'Occitane, Molton Brown and Philosophy. I also like ones that match my current perfume.

Roselilly36 · 17/02/2022 06:29

I don’t buy very expensive shower gels, but the one I like the most is Fenjel Shower Creme, highly scented, and get a lot of compliments when I use this one, and I don’t need to use a body lotion either.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/02/2022 06:41

Use it.

I bought a Penhaligons one in a gift set with a perfume. It smells incredible, but it's definitely not worth anywhere near what they usually charge for it.

KylieCharlene · 17/02/2022 06:51

I once bought a set of Philosophy shower gels.
Not sure they were worth the money product wise but I did feel special using them which I suppose makes them worth the price.

DSGR · 17/02/2022 06:55

I love posh shower gels, they are the ultimate treat to me. Jo Malone is my favourite as the scent lingers for ages in the bathroom (especially the showe oils) but I also love Molton Brown

Redlorryyellowduck · 17/02/2022 06:56

I buy whatever is a pound in the supermarket Blush. When visiting spas etc I do love the expensive smelling shower gels, but not enough to spend £100 a month on them, we get through loads of shower gel in my house, and I really couldn't be faffing with keeping one just for myself.

GCAcademic · 17/02/2022 07:03

Same. I got their Halfeti gift set for Christmas. It's gorgeous, but £38 for shower gel is crazy.
FleeceNavidadFromTheSheep · 17/02/2022 07:05

I had pear-scented Kiehls shower gel which was gorgeous.

Now I use bar soap, but buy lovely handmade ones in gift shops or TK Maxx. It lasts forever and the scent lingers.

WTF475878237NC · 17/02/2022 07:15

I like using posh ones I get as gifts and try not to ration them to the point it changes the experience.

What a fascinating story and history behind the brand. Had never heard of Santa Maria Novella before this thread.

ladyvimes · 17/02/2022 07:21

Posh shower gel is totally worth it. I love the rituals foaming ones. They feel like such a treat in the morning and the scent lasts all day on your skin.

Chocomelon · 17/02/2022 07:53

I don't think I've ever bought a v expensive one as I think it's a waste but happy to spend on make up and skincare.

I've tried a few expensive ones through subscription boxes and sets like ESPA, loccitane, Molton Brown...

Chocomelon · 17/02/2022 07:54

Had Rituals foaming ones too
