Lip fillers

Sorry if this has been done to death before! I'm new to this section.

I'm 40 and considering getting lip fillers. I'm generally against any work to my face apart from eyebrow definition but would love my top lip to look a bit fuller. However I'm so wary of ending up with an irreversible trout pout!!

Also scared of what's in the stuff Confused and what I'd be injecting my body with (whether it's harmful long term).

Has anyone got any positive/negative experiences to help me make a decision?

Thanks x

If in doubt, leave it out. No experience as I’ve suffered in the past with cold sores and as an over thinker worry about their being some reaction with the virus and the filler. Also if you start this, is it something that you could maintain long term? How often do you need top ups? When you’re 50, 60, 70 will you still be getting this done. Like any procedure there are risks. What if it goes all Pete Burns?

inheritancetrack · 12/02/2022 07:58

I had this done once years ago. Told it would look nice and natural and not troutish. It looked awful and I almost hid away for 6 months.

If you want it doing get personal recommendations rapists who do a very subtle job.

Choosingtochange · 12/02/2022 08:09

I'm in my 40's and had mine done for the first time last year as similar to you I felt like my top lip could be fuller. To be honest I loved the results, quite swollen for the first week and can see how this kind of thing could become addictive. They looked lovely and natural, I'd researched about where to go obviously. I was really happy with mine. About 6 months later they are back to before as the filler must dissolve. No side effects or horns growing out of my head 👍🏻

Wow. Rather abrupt. There are posts about every subject on here. Maybe she wants to ask for peoples current opinions or a chat.

No matter what anyone tells you, a good chunk of people can always tell you’ve had it done.

5128gap · 12/02/2022 09:52

I've not had lip fillers but I've had other areas and been very happy. I'd say:
Use to 'correct' any lost fullness rather than 'enhance' any you never had in the first place.
Start with a very small amount.
Make sure the practitioner has the means to reverse it if necessary.

lechatnoir · 12/02/2022 10:05

I know quite a few people who have had it done and they will all claim no one can tell - we definitely can and people are just too polite to say anything. even the very subtle ones just don't look entirely natural. I'd have (if I were less of a chicken/skint/bothered) Botox for my middle deep lines, a small boob uplift and multi laser type skin treatments but lip fillers you can keep.

oneproudmumma · 12/02/2022 11:16

These are my lips at the moment. Ignore horrible spots on either side 🥴 No idea where they sprouted from!

This is my worry.. I do not want anyone to tell I have had lip fillers at all. I want the tiniest enhancement so it looks natural. I have seen some that look really nice and others that look, frankly, hideous.. 😬

I’m not against filler but I honestly think there’s no issue with your lips.
Your tip lip doesn’t look thin and it’s in proportion to the bottom one.

Yes, I think you have summed up my concerns in a nutshell.

I'm no stranger to procedures OP, but having seen your lips, I'd say don't. You don't look to me like you have thin lips, or that you've experienced shrinkage that would benefit from corrective filler, so any filler you have will inflate beyond what is natural for your face, which is when it can look false imo. Of course some people like that look, which is fine. It's just a matter if what you're aiming for.

oneproudmumma · 12/02/2022 11:28

@BlessedBeTheFruitCake thank you, I have thought they were too thin for a while now 🤷🏻‍♀️ It's probably a result of seeing full lips everywhere these days!!

@MintyGreenDream thank you for sharing. Do yoo have any before pics so I can see the difference? Smile

@5128gap erghhh no, I don't want them to look false! Thank you for your advice, especially as you have had procedures done yourself. Out of interest, how can you tell if someone has "shrinkage"? Is that loss of volume in the lips?

Appleseesaw · 12/02/2022 11:33

Op you have lovely lips! In your shoes I would experiment with makeup techniques for a bit of a boost (if you want).

I know someone who had v subtle lip fillers and it looked great. They had full lips when younger and age had removed some of the fullness.

I wish I still had my pregnancy lips. They looked so good.

Yes, the age related volume loss. You can tell when it happens yourself as your lips look dryer, more wrinkled and thinner by comparison to when you were younger. The outline becomes less defined and lipstick doesn't sit as it once did. Yours don't look to me like any of those things have happened. But of course, I have nothing to compare them with!

FreshFaceTime · 12/02/2022 12:12

I don't normally comment on these threads as I got called blow job lips at school and have only recently learnt to appreciate my lips. BUT... having seen your photo... I just think you'd feel better if you kind of look after them a bit more. They look a bit on the dry side to me. Mine used to be the same till I started using lip balm / a lip mask - or nipple cream(!) - every night. Might help them feel a bit nicer for you, then keep a few within easy reach so you remember to top up throughout the day. Obviously you need to make sure you're drinking plenty of water too.

For what it's worth, I think your lips look a lovely shape exactly as they are.

user1495223711 · 12/02/2022 12:13

Although people initially thought that filler dissolved it's just as black and white as that unfortunately. We're moving into a time where longer term impacts can be researched and MRI scans show that fillers don't just completely dissolve but they can also migrate to different places under the skin, so it's understandable that people thought their filler was gone. Even if you dissolve fillers, this also involves dissolving some of your own natural hylauronic acid.

Honestly, you have to do what will make you happy, but as an outsider your lips look lovely and a lip liner is a much lower risk tool than a needle. Everyone I know with fillers think they've done it very naturally but it's always obvious.

Just consider that this is an unpredictable process and think about the side effects of what happens if the filler migrates (over time some people end up with the full animal-like puffiness between the nose and mouth) or if the lip is filled then goes down over time, what's your long term plan? The tissue on the skin stretches over filler so doesn't look the same one the filler dissolves or moves. You might not have this issue if you're just getting a tiny amount but how do you define to a clinician how much is tiny?

Important that you find someone who will have the same definition of tiny and whose work you've actually seen. All the best whatever you decide!

I'm going to sound like a bitch saying this & I assume you're happy with them which is all that matters, but it's very obvious that you've had fillers.
lechatnoir · 12/02/2022 12:24

And now having seen your photo op, I'm struggling to see the problem - you've actually got a rather lovely shape lips and certainly nothing that a bit of care and makeup wouldn't improve dramatically .

hartof · 12/02/2022 12:26

I don't think there's any need for filler on your lips, if you put lipliner and lipstick on they will look fuller. I had filler 3 times so had about 2ml in total, when I looked at photos after I didn't like how it looked so I haven't had anymore done for almost a year. You can always have them dissolved if you do decide to try it.

RampantIvy · 12/02/2022 12:30

Sorry @MintyGreenDream, but I agree. Having seen your before photo you didn't need them doing. I think when you have them done yourself you think they look great when looking in the mirror, but it will be your profile that makes it look really odd and overdone.

@oneproudmumma you really, really don't need fillers.
