Hush tulle skirt (Floriza?) - help with styling please

I couldn't wait to receive my Hush tulle skirt last year - it was the answer to everything, and finally, I would be Carrie Bradshaw (I need a hand over the face emoji here!). However, things don't always work out as planned, and it has sat in my wardrobe gathering dust. Please help me work out what I can wear it with/for? I absolutely love it. I bought the pale grey/blue colour. I should have waited and bought the navy version, I saw someone wearing that recently with a pink silky blouse looking fab. (she was much taller than me though!).

I feel your pain, I had a similar skirt brought from new look from the Halloween range, it was black tulle, a lovely skirt, but I only wore it once on Christmas day, I sold it on ebay for half I paid for it, lesson learnt buy for the life you have, not the life of carrie Bradshaw, will I ever learn. Probably not.

I keep pondering this skirt. I think you need to create a juxtaposition in the outfit for every day wear. I actually think grey is better by the way.
Dressy: with crisp white shirt and block healed mules
Casual: the ubiquitous fresh white T and trainers
In between: oversized knitwear with a French tuck and flat boots; or
The casual look with a boyfriend fit blazer

liveforchocolate · 05/02/2022 16:31

@lindyloo57 I'm not alone :))

@Thinkle thank you! but am I cool enough for these ideas?... do you mean a crisp cotton white shirt? I have a lovely white shirt, and how about with some little ankle boots? Not sure I have heeled mules (I might break my neck if I did!)...
fresh white t - I have some lovely white t shirts, I can do that, and trainers - veja ok?

yes would LOVE the oversized knitwear/French tuck look - my problem is always finding the right oversized knitwear that is flattering rather than making me look oversized?!

...that would be my preferred look.

Maybe I just need to bite the bullet, put it on, ignore the sniggers of my family, and head on out, confident in the knowledge that someone will see me and think to themselves that I really do look fabulous, and if not, as long as I feel ok who cares?!

It's not the Hush tulle skirt but I bought one from Monki a couple of years ago. It was styled with an oversized sweatshirt and trainers and looked really cool. I have tried the look out in the safety of my bedroom and I think I could get away with it but haven't actually taken the plunge yet

@bonfireheart thank you for that link - I like the look with the blazer :) apart from the shoes..

@Puppylucky me too feels safe in my bedroom!

Can I really just wear it out in the real world?!

I think its a confidence thing for me, I brought a few years ago the black jacket from zara, Trinny has one, it was sort of short feather like , I never wore it, but did manage to sell for double I paid on ebay.

schoolsoutforever · 05/02/2022 18:05

Just stick it on with trainers and a casual top and get out there. No point it sitting in the wardrobe.

Wedding1234 · 05/02/2022 18:16

I bought this too! Absolutely love it. Am going to wear it with hush ripley boots on bottom but am struggling for what to wear on top. I thought a jumper of some description, maybe sparkly, maybe pink, but have tried multiple jumpers and nothing quite looks right. The pink was a good colour but the fit of the jumpers I tried weren't right. I am pear shaped and need to emphasise my wrist or I look enormous.

Am now thinking I'll try a silky tight vest top and a cropped cardigan...I tried a plain cotton vest top and cardigan I have at home and that was almost right shape and style wise but fabric was wrong and my cardigan slightly too long.

I love the skirt so much though I am going to persevere!

do you think this will go with it?

Wedding1234 · 05/02/2022 18:19

I think trainers would look cool too as PPs have suggested. Not sure about a white shirt though but I am not a fan of a white shirt generally so maybe just me.

I think a leather jacket would look cool on top too.

Wedding1234 · 05/02/2022 18:20

Byte you can't have too long a top of you go for a tighter top. Needs to end just under the waistband I found otherwise it infringes on the ruffles 😬

You could have skirt over the top of the top (like a teddy eg) if that works for you but always makes me look bigger.

liveforchocolate · 05/02/2022 18:22

I'd love a leather jacket with it but I think I'm a bit old for that look...
I have a silk camisole I could try, and then a cropped cardigan...@Wedding1234 I'm glad I'm not alone!

I wore a similar navy version of this skirt at Christmas ( This one was from Boden though ) - I styled it with a navy sweatshirt from m and s ( I'm a size 16/18 ) sorry this is a photo of me sitting down but you get the gist?

It works best as a causal number I think, I'm tempted to buy that mauve one now for summer.

Wedding1234 · 05/02/2022 18:26

I know, it’s a tricky one to find something to go with it. I have to say that if you are young enough for the skirt, you can probably pull off a leather jacket! But you obviously have to feel comfortable in whatever it is. Let me know what you settle on as it may give me some ideas 😄. Good luck!

liveforchocolate · 05/02/2022 19:13

@Wagsandclaws it looks lovely

@Wedding1234 maybe I'm too old for the skirt!... when I'm done being bedridden with covid I'll try it on again!

@liveforchocolate I was 50 on Monday and I'm still wearing it 👵 🤣

westr · 05/02/2022 19:15

I have this skirt and wear it with biker boots and a black jumper.

It is one of my most complimented by strangers outfits of all time!

liveforchocolate · 05/02/2022 19:16

@Wagsandclaws Happy special birthday! I hope you had a lovely day and were made a fuss of! I'm just a few months older so I'll persevere :)

You are looking fantastic for 50 - your skin is lovely! :)

Wagsandclaws · 05/02/2022 19:18

Thank you! Sadly for us January b'day -ers everyone is doing dry Jan and skint!

I've just pre ordered the skirt 🙌 you should totally persevere, it's a lovely skirt ( just needs dressing down a wee bit imho )

I'm 48 (and looking older than
@Wagsandclaws
), and am still going to be wearing it. I love it, so bugger too old, I say!

Plump82 · 05/02/2022 19:20

I have a peach tulle skirt and I wear it with a cropped sequin top in grey and silver flat shoes. It's one of my favourite outfits.

liveforchocolate · 05/02/2022 19:22

@westr ooh that's interesting, & fun! what kind of shape/style jumper is it? Is the skirt the same colour as mine? I thought black is too harsh with it?

@Wagsandclaws what colour have you preordered?

Maybe we should all meet up in it one day :)))

Woolly jumper, matching woolly tights, ankle boots and attitude.

Carrie Bradshaw was over rated. AJLT should include bunion surgery.
