Body Shop products that are better than anything else you've tried

142 replies

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 01/02/2022 07:45

A neighbour's daughter has started doing Body Shop at home and I would like to support her.
I've always enjoyed Body Shop products when I've been given them as gifts but it's not somewhere I've ever bought my cosmetics & toiletries from.

Please let me know what products you only ever buy from the BS and think are better than other brands.

If you are a BS consultant, please be honest and say so, and let me me know what products are most popular with your customers for repeat purchase.

Oh and I've only ever used their toiletries, am not familiar with their makeup at all.
I am on the continued search for a concealer that actually works on my dark under eye shadows, are their concealers - are theirs any good? And I don't have a preferred foundation, is theirs worth trying?

Thank you

I appreciate you are wanting to be nice and support her, but with the MLM model she will almost certainly lose money in the long run and tbh the quicker she finds out it's a scam, cuts her losses and moves on, the better.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 01/02/2022 09:57

Thanks for the product recommendations.

I didn't expect the thread to take the turn it has. I am currently caring for a dying family member and trying to distract myself but don't have the time or emotional energy to have to justify why I've satisfied myself that the arguments aren't that straight forward. I'm just taking a note of the products and then am going to ask for this thread to be pulled

Banana shampoo is lovely and I also like the mandarin shower gel

JammyDevil · 01/02/2022 10:13

I refuse to buy anything from Body Shop since the JKR debacle. This was their classy response to her noting that there is another word for menstruators - woman.

So nothing, I recommend absolutely nothing from Body Shop.

@FindingMeno

Hemp hand cream is the dogs bollocks.
The Aldi dupe is fab and a lot cheaper
RockinHorseShit · 01/02/2022 10:35

I hate BS & avoid, their hemp hand cream is the dogs bollocks though & I wish I'd never been given a tube,m then I could hate BS from afar

LubaLuca · 01/02/2022 10:44

I didn't know anything about the JKR stuff, that's pretty awful now I'm looking at it. What the hell happened to the Body Shop?! They were so reliably straight down the line back in their heyday.

SparklingLime · 01/02/2022 10:45

That tweet from Body Shop is vile. Hadn’t seen it before. Haven’t bought anything from them for years since they sold out and lost their way.

Infinitemoon · 01/02/2022 10:51

Ah bloody hell. That tweet is awful. Sad

Intheopinionofourexpert · 01/02/2022 10:54

@RockingMyFiftiesNot

However I didn't realise the comments made about JKR - how upsetting... I don't really want to add BS to my boycott list because I'm running out of places to shop!

I think you need to read what actually happened and in what context before you boycott them. Too many times I've seen the facts twisted on social media reports. So do your own research and reach your own conclusion, rather than rely solely on 'the Body Shop is misogynistic' posts that don't always convey the whole story.

I've satisfied myself that I am happy to buy from the Body Shop, having looked in to what was actually said and by whom.

Thanks for all the product recommendations .

I've researched them, they are misogynistic, their behaviour towards JKR was awful and I'll never buy from them again.
IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 01/02/2022 10:54

The Hemp Face Protector is the bee’s knees if you spend a lot of time outdoors and the banana hair mask is great on my dry, curly, coloured hair.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 01/02/2022 10:58

That tweet - i will never buy from them again.

Sorry you’re going through a tough time OP.

Intheopinionofourexpert · 01/02/2022 11:01

@RockingMyFiftiesNot

The Body Shop mocked JKR for her account of domestic violence and used it as an opportunity to try and sell bath bombs on social media.

Complicated by their calling her out on her transphobia I think.

Complicated by them calling her out as being transphobic when she wasn't ...
SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 01/02/2022 11:03

I don’t think the thread should be deleted. It’s important information which clearly some people didn’t already know. If it’s upsetting you OP then just mute it and walk away.

SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 01/02/2022 11:03

(Also, if anyone knows of a good dupe for the banana shampoo and conditioner, please let me know!!!)

CurryLover55 · 01/02/2022 11:03

Absolutely love their pink grapefruit showergel

GettingStuffed · 01/02/2022 11:04

I recently watched a YouTube anti MLM video the other day. It was horrendous all the lies the body shop was based on.

HasaDigaEebowai · 01/02/2022 11:04

Also think it shouldn’t be deleted. Particularly since the OP assured us she’d already researched and satisfied herself on the issue so it’s hardly shocking news to her like it might be to others who read the thread.

Calendulaaaaa · 01/02/2022 11:05

Wow this is awful. The Body Shop really hate women don't they?
HasaDigaEebowai · 01/02/2022 11:05

Perhaps we should have a “dupes for body shop products so we can boycott them” thread..

HoyaSaxa · 01/02/2022 11:10

@bishophaha

The Body Shop mocked JKR for her account of domestic violence and used it as an opportunity to try and sell bath bombs on social media.

The coconut shower cream was the best, but it's hardly as though you can't find other shower gels/creams. I won't support misogynistic companies.

This first paragraph is spot on.

JKR detailed how she suffered domestic abuse and the BS suggested she might like a bath and to read some misogynistic crap.

It was insulting, patronising, tone deaf, cruel and frankly pathetic.

I have boycotted them ever since.

But hey, both sides, right?

LimpLettice · 01/02/2022 11:13

@leafcuttingwhale

Their stuff is not that great and after they publicly accused, and in a mocking way, JK Rowling for talking about male violence, her personal experiences of male violence, and the need for basic safeguarding to protect women from it, I'll never touch their stuff again.
This.
WeHoldTheMoney · 01/02/2022 11:15

I too don’t think believe this thread should be pulled. I have extensively followed and researched the situation, read all essays and tweets, and no longer shop at The Body Shop.
OP holds the opposite viewpoint, so what’s the issue? This thread and it’s answers form a small part of the much-needed debate we are missing - hearing all sides in order to make one’s own mind up.

SavoyCabbage · 01/02/2022 11:20

Complicated by their calling her out on her transphobia I think.

Oh my! What did she say that was transphobic?

I don't like leaving a debate which I've started, intentionally or in this case not. And I really don't have the time or energy to go back through it all the facts again as it is a while since I really looked into it.

I agree it should be debated openly and I will look at it again when I have the headspace. Which isn't now. People don't read full threads and I don't want it thought that I'm a poster who walks away because the majority disagree with me. Far from it. But this thread is now adding additional stress I don't need right now, hence wanting it removed. Feel free to start another thread opening the debate. I was asking about products as a distraction .!
