Body Shop products that are better than anything else you've tried

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 01/02/2022 07:45

A neighbour's daughter has started doing Body Shop at home and I would like to support her.
I've always enjoyed Body Shop products when I've been given them as gifts but it's not somewhere I've ever bought my cosmetics & toiletries from.

Please let me know what products you only ever buy from the BS and think are better than other brands.

If you are a BS consultant, please be honest and say so, and let me me know what products are most popular with your customers for repeat purchase.

Oh and I've only ever used their toiletries, am not familiar with their makeup at all.
I am on the continued search for a concealer that actually works on my dark under eye shadows, are their concealers - are theirs any good? And I don't have a preferred foundation, is theirs worth trying?

Thank you

I wouldn’t be encouraging her to set up as MLM.

That said the ginger shampoo is great and DD and I like the hand creams. Didn’t know the shampoo strips colour - might have to find an alternative Sad

AnotherMansCause · 01/02/2022 08:43

I used to use their cocoa butter range, especially the lip balm, but they stopped doing it. I actually used to buy a fair few things there but they discontinued them all.

And I’m happy with the research I did on their stance towards women, JKR, etc. I shop elsewhere these days. For a number of reasons.

HeyDiddleDee · 01/02/2022 08:43

Honestly if you really want to support her, I’d talk to her about the business model and try to convince her to put time and effort into something else. I have a family member who was a body shop consultant, she lost money. As did all the friends who convinced her to join in the first place. It has a friendlier face than some (drawing on the brand’s history) but it still works the same way as other MLMs and in my experience many consultants seem to spend their own money on products they can’t shift or prizes for the “competitions” they are encouraged to run.

If you really want to buy stuff, the vitamin c face range is pretty good and I like the shower gels and lip balms. I’m not mad on the foundation / concealers etc (but I do have acne prone skin so there aren’t that many I find work well for me).

Yeah her Mum has had that conversation with her several times and I was involved in one of them (sorry, not drip feeding, just didn't think it would be relevant to the OP).
She's headstrong and will have to learn this lesson for herself. Still happy to buy a couple of things from her though.

I’m buying bath fizzers from them and was actually thinking about make up for DD. However I will look into the mentioned comments before shopping with them again.

TheFlis12345 · 01/02/2022 09:03

I was given a few items from their sleep range (can’t remember the exact name, it’s a bit like This Works stuff) and really liked the pillow spray and hand cream.

Wizzbangfizz · 01/02/2022 09:11

I couldn't be without the chamomile eye make up remover

TheDaydreamBelievers · 01/02/2022 09:14

Vitamin E skincare range and camomile range are good. I also like the vitamin C serum

LindaEllen · 01/02/2022 09:20

Vit C face peel, hemp moisturiser and anything from the satsuma range are my absolute favourites.

I get a lot of free BS things thanks to my job so those are what I like to stock up on!

LindaEllen · 01/02/2022 09:21

Pretty sure you could, though.

Are you really saying you'd die if you didn't have it.

Wow.

WellTidy · 01/02/2022 09:23

The hemp hand cream is great, I also really like their argan hand cream. The 30ml sizes that they do are great for handbags or for the car

DH likes their mens shower gel which so for hair and body. It is about £6 and comes in a green tube

LiveFromNewYork · 01/02/2022 09:25

I like the shimmer brick dupe they do.

It’s a shame they’ve ended up mired in gender identity controversy as just seemed completely unnecessary.

I also think it’s a very different company to the one Anita Roddick founded.

Sillybilli · 01/02/2022 09:28

Vit e cleanser
Banana shampoo
Shea body butter
The pink grapefruit shower gel smells AMAZING

bishophaha · 01/02/2022 09:29

The Body Shop mocked JKR for her account of domestic violence and used it as an opportunity to try and sell bath bombs on social media.

The coconut shower cream was the best, but it's hardly as though you can't find other shower gels/creams. I won't support misogynistic companies.

Ifeellikedancing · 01/02/2022 09:31

Drops of youth peel
Camomile cleansing balm
Vitamin E cleanser and moisturiser
And my personal favourite Vitamin E lip balm, nothing else compares

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 01/02/2022 09:34

Complicated by their calling her out on her transphobia I think.

HasaDigaEebowai · 01/02/2022 09:38

Nothing she says was transphobic

HasaDigaEebowai · 01/02/2022 09:38

*said

vjg13 · 01/02/2022 09:40

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor Have you tried the Philip Kingsley itchy scalp range? It is the only one that I have found that works well for my daughter, she uses the shampoo and the tonic.

RunningInTheWind · 01/02/2022 09:40

Their clay foundation is excellent.

Phrenologistsfinger · 01/02/2022 09:42

I boycott them now myself, as well as Lush, because they are anti-feminist.

I miss the old bodyshop that actually had ethics re zero waste, ingredients too.

bishophaha · 01/02/2022 09:43

This is the long essay JKR wrote, detailing her account of domestic violence and writing about sex-based oppression of women, her own struggles with gender and sex stereotypes, and her support for Maya Forstater, whose beliefs in 'sex being immutable' were later upheld in court as protected beliefs.
www.jkrowling.com/opinions/j-k-rowling-writes-about-her-reasons-for-speaking-out-on-sex-and-gender-issues/

The Body Shop chose to reply with "Hey @jk_rowling here’s something we made earlier, we thought you might like one! We’ve also popped in a vegan bath bomb and a copy of Trans Rights by @paisleycurrah for you to read in the bath!”. It was accompanied by a picture of a bag promoting a campaign to end period shame.

I would appreciate it if you would highlight which bit of JKR's essay you believe to be transphobic?

Oh, hang on, perhaps you feel you don't need to or shouldn't have to or haven't got time right now or just ignore it like everyone else who can't have a conversation about exactly what is incorrect in that piece.

Fabuleuse · 01/02/2022 09:45

@leafcuttingwhale

Their stuff is not that great and after they publicly accused, and in a mocking way, JK Rowling for talking about male violence, her personal experiences of male violence, and the need for basic safeguarding to protect women from it, I'll never touch their stuff again.
This, and I've read the full essay by JK Rowling and the tweet in question. It's highly annoying because I've had to change my favourite shampoo but I cannot support them on principle.
RonCarlos · 01/02/2022 09:52

I did not know about their tweet to JKR. Blimey. Goading about DV. Nice.

I haven't really shopped there since the Anita Roddick days.

ElephantOfRisk · 01/02/2022 09:53

MLM + tweets etc, yes I read into it. Wouldn't touch it with a bargepole. Tell them to find a proper job.

Add to that that there are always discount codes so probably cheaper online too.

Scam.
