Body Shop products that are better than anything else you've tried

142 replies

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 01/02/2022 07:45

A neighbour's daughter has started doing Body Shop at home and I would like to support her.
I've always enjoyed Body Shop products when I've been given them as gifts but it's not somewhere I've ever bought my cosmetics & toiletries from.

Please let me know what products you only ever buy from the BS and think are better than other brands.

If you are a BS consultant, please be honest and say so, and let me me know what products are most popular with your customers for repeat purchase.

Oh and I've only ever used their toiletries, am not familiar with their makeup at all.
I am on the continued search for a concealer that actually works on my dark under eye shadows, are their concealers - are theirs any good? And I don't have a preferred foundation, is theirs worth trying?

Thank you

Thanks for the recommendation @Livpool. I’ve been looking for a new hand cream.

AnotherMansCause · 01/02/2022 11:26

@RockingMyFiftiesNot if it’s causing you stress, just don’t read the replies?

BarbaraLoganPrice · 01/02/2022 11:26

Another who is boycotting Body Shop here. And I'm proud to be doing so. If you're going to start spouting the "JK is a transphobe" bollocks then expect women to be replying and defending her, as we should be. Drip-feeding any personal problems doesn't and shouldn't deflect from that.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 01/02/2022 11:29

Drip-feeding any personal problems doesn't and shouldn't deflect from that.

Jeez how mean can you be? I started a thread about products. That my life is a living hell right now had no relevance at that point.

@RockingMyFiftiesNot
Totally understand and I’m sorry that you’re under such stress. I know you’re not here for an argument and your response is respectful of the fact that we all have different views.
If you want a recommendation, I found their body butters nice enough. Fun scents, thick and non-greasy - I doubt you’d be disappointed buying those. In all honesty, I find The Body Shop pretty uninspiring, and that was my view on their offerings before any political debate came into it.
I hope you have a good day - sun is peeking out where I am.

LadyLolaRuben · 01/02/2022 11:33

Drops of youth serum and body yoghurt

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 01/02/2022 11:35

Thank you @WeHoldTheMoney, a little kindness goes a long way on a day like today. Sun is peeking out here too, which is something positive even if I can't be out enjoying it.

I agree that their products aren't very inspiring. However there are a few repeat recommendations here which I will try

@WeHoldTheMoney

I too don’t think believe this thread should be pulled. I have extensively followed and researched the situation, read all essays and tweets, and no longer shop at The Body Shop. OP holds the opposite viewpoint, so what’s the issue? This thread and it’s answers form a small part of the much-needed debate we are missing - hearing all sides in order to make one’s own mind up.
Mumsnet agrees with you and the thread won't be deleted. Please carry on debating, I'll come back to it when I can deal with it properly.

Thanks to those who were helpful and kind.

@leafcuttingwhale

Their stuff is not that great and after they publicly accused, and in a mocking way, JK Rowling for talking about male violence, her personal experiences of male violence, and the need for basic safeguarding to protect women from it, I'll never touch their stuff again.
Same. Also they have started massively overpricing their products. I used to like the body butter. It's good. It's not eighteen fucking quid good 🤣

@HasaDigaEebowai

Perhaps we should have a “dupes for body shop products so we can boycott them” thread..
Great idea - could someone start this!
GingerbreadVanMan · 01/02/2022 11:56

Another agreeing that Aldi hemp hand cream is brilliant and so much cheaper, would buy for price aspect alone even if I wasn’t boycotting BS.

Intheopinionofourexpert · 01/02/2022 11:57

OP just to say I'm sorry to read about what you're dealing with. I'd missed that in your posts. Have been there too, it's really tough. And exhausting. Wishing you all the strength and resilience you need at this horrid time.

Ducksareruiningmypatio · 01/02/2022 11:57

@RockingMyFiftiesNot

The Body Shop mocked JKR for her account of domestic violence and used it as an opportunity to try and sell bath bombs on social media.

Complicated by their calling her out on her transphobia I think.

Nothing she said was transphobic though?
bishophaha · 01/02/2022 12:16

Thing is OP (sorry you're having an awful time) by Body Shop choosing to wade into this in a not very kind manner, they're going to have this reputation hanging onto them for a long time, so I do genuinely feel for the reps and staff who would be better off if they'd just avoided making silly tweets.

It's not just the Socmed person who is affected, it does seem to get brought up in every discussion about them.

Peppermint foot cream was another good one.

Furx · 01/02/2022 12:18

Anyone got a dupe for mango body butter?

BS version is overpriced, and turns out I don’t like the side order of snide misogyny it came with.

Furx · 01/02/2022 12:21

I will add …. I was low key avoiding them because I disagree with MLMs. It’s a grubby and exploitative practice, and there was no need for it.

In the wake of their comments on JKR I’m properly Not Buying Their Stuff now.

DinaofCloud9 · 01/02/2022 12:37

I used to like some stuff but it's really gone downhill. It feels cheap now when the price is actually not at all cheap.

StickerPlace · 01/02/2022 13:51

It's an MLM.

The best way to support the person is to explain to them why MLMs are to be avoided and help them get out before they lose more money to it.

MinglingFlamingo · 01/02/2022 14:10

I really like their Tea Tree oil range.
Vitamin C serum
Hemp hand cream
The satsuma body wash and body butter

I know they're a bit Hmm on womens rights but if someone can find similar for the same ish price for my tricky skin then I'm all ears. But for now it's all that I really have access too. Especially now boots discontinued a lot of their own range products

IheartJKRowling · 01/02/2022 14:19

I wouldn't use the Body Shop products if they were free and one application made me wake up and look 25 again. They are misogynistic, yes it really is that simple and if they want to pander to a tiny minority by ostracising their core group of customers then I hope they never sell another product again.

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 01/02/2022 14:21

@leafcuttingwhale

Their stuff is not that great and after they publicly accused, and in a mocking way, JK Rowling for talking about male violence, her personal experiences of male violence, and the need for basic safeguarding to protect women from it, I'll never touch their stuff again.
Yeah, that was a defining moment.
CorrBlimeyGG · 01/02/2022 14:35

Oh bless, all the anti trans people trying to defend Rowling's transphobia. Conflating trans people with sex offenders is transphobic. If you don't see the problem with such a statement, then you're very much a part of the problem.

OP, can I recommend the shea hand cream? It smells beautiful and is that right balance of moisturising without being sticky.

I'm sorry to hear you're going through a difficult time. When my loved one was very unwell, he really appreciated light hand massage. Might be something that helps your relative also?

JaneJeffer · 01/02/2022 14:37

I don't buy anything from them anymore because I'm in Ireland and they seem to not understand the exchange rate and just double the price instead.

LimpLettice · 01/02/2022 14:45

Not trans PEOPLE. Men. Who are responsible for something like 95% of sex offences, no matter how they present or identify. Men. Suggesting an identity changes male offending rates is stupid, wrong and dangerous. JKR simply pointed out that sex matters.
