Why is Sue Grey wearing two scarves? Is this a thing now?

Exhibits A and B- It is an...umm...interesting look.

I am in peri menopause and feel like a latent volcano. I don't even want to wear one scarf! But the two-scarf thing? Is it a fashion memo that has passed me by? Or just the stylings of an eccentric woman?

Maybe she is hiding her report inside them.

TizerorFizz · 28/01/2022 09:51

@Floisme
You might be surprised that feeling like a volcano can last into your 60s!

I think this lady dresses to please herself. I wouldn’t do two scarves and no boots but it’s her choice. Im more interested in what she has written!

Herja · 28/01/2022 10:05

I often wear two scarves! I have a very long neck and I get cold easily. I sort of arange them folded about each other, to ensure there are no gaps. Also, all wool (but alpaca) makes me itch like hell, so with my lovely big, warm, wool scarves I wear a soft velvet or cotton one against my skin. Or an inside scarf, with an outer one on top when I leave the house. I like scarves. Also brooches, my skin reacts to most metals, but I love sparkly things! And hats - not just wooIy, but cossack, cloche and big summer hats.

I conceed that 'eccentric' is probably the best term to describe my general look though.

BabyInTheJungle · 28/01/2022 10:07

I think that looks really nice! I love a layer.

IDontLikeMondays88 · 28/01/2022 10:07

It’s quite something how Boris has managed to deflect attention onto a woman civil servant just doing her job such that her appearance now getting critiqued on mumsnet.
I mean Boris looks like a soft toy that the stuffing has come out of and has generally been taking the piss out of us all but let’s focus on Sue Grey.

EvilPea · 28/01/2022 10:08

Weight of the country on her shoulders that woman.

Amrapaali · 28/01/2022 10:22

Oh Gawd this thread has been a revelation! Two scarves- who knew? I must admit I have never seen this particular look out in the wild.

I feel I have missed some good outfit ideas during my scarf wearing days. Hmph!

I mostly WFH now and with afore-said peri am just happy with a linen shirt even in deep winter

@midsomermurderess

The po-faced upbraiding on a Style and Beauty is becoming increasingly tiresome. I sometimes thing there are posters on rotation sent to hunt down something deemed to be unacceptable and we must all be scolded for it.
Hasn't it just? Hmm

The scolders have become so tiresome. Wandering on to random threads and acting all holier-than-thou

Eh? What? Confused

There are literally three long running threads about Boris and CakeGate. Everyone is holding Boris' feet to the fire.

The only critique that is happening here is posters like you making an appearance to criticise other posters' views. But go ahead and knock yourself out if it makes you feel all warm and virtuous inside

I am not criticising other posters views I am criticising Boris Hmm

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 28/01/2022 12:45

I agree with Meh2020....I reckon she has been leaving them in places and is determined not to lose them, so is wearing both home!

I love a scarf and a brooch...again, brooch is on hat or securing a scarf or perhaps on a plain coat, but not on a blouse or jacket.

I am currently swathed in a giant crochet shawl that I have twisted to be more scarfy, it's keeping my neck, shoulders and embonpoint cosy. I have the windows open for some fresh air, and cba to go and shut them!

Fairylightsongs · 28/01/2022 12:54

Has she got bare legs? I’d be Baltic if I had bare legs in this weather.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 28/01/2022 14:07

I thought it was sheer tights in a pale nude rather than bare legs.

AuldAlliance · 28/01/2022 20:23

She is wearing two scarves because she really, really wants, more than anything in the world, to put on a full suit of armour,.
But she would be unable to move, never mind shake off paparazzi on her walk to work.
This is the next best thing.

IfBooksWereTheFoodOfLove · 28/01/2022 20:30

Sue looks nice, does anyone know where to find a navy blue wool coat like the one in pic number 2?

KimikosNightmare · 29/01/2022 01:40

@ChoiceMummy

If I'm wearing a scarf with my outfit, I'll then wear my outdoor scarf as well if putting on a big winter coat and it's cold. Doesn't seem off to me.
Quite normal here too.
BabyInTheJungle · 29/01/2022 07:57

Agree she does look nice. I love the aubergine teddy wool coat in the first picture too.

BabyInTheJungle · 29/01/2022 09:03

I've now gone down a rabbit hole of looking at beautiful wool coats online and I need to put my phone down before this becomes a very expensive morning 😬

EarringsandLipstick · 29/01/2022 09:32

@sweetbellyhigh

How to reduce a high flyer to an object of mockery. 🙄
Exactly. 😡
EarringsandLipstick · 29/01/2022 09:36

Or just the stylings of an eccentric woman?

FFS

Why have you deemed her 'eccentric' based on her choice of scarf (or scarves)? Your later post protesting that this is positive doesn't ring true.

And for the other poster talking about people coming on to S&B to berate posters, not true here.

This is a post making judgments of a woman based on what she's chosen under under faux-innocence of 'I just wanted to discuss this from a style point of view'.

JinglingHellsBells · 29/01/2022 09:37

Two scarves, bare legs and what look like plimsols in winter?

I don't understand some people's behaviour.

Meh2020 · 29/01/2022 16:09

If only we could ask her why?!

The other burning question aside to what the report will find!

LondonQueen · 29/01/2022 16:16

I do this! One is normally a decorative one, simply for the appearance, then the other is a thicker one because I'm always cold...

LaPampa · 29/01/2022 19:23

I often end up wearing one light wool one which I might keep on inside with a heavier cashmere one over the top for outside with a coat.

ginghamstarfish · 29/01/2022 23:31

I do in winter, a decorative one and then a warm one if going out. Bare legs though, don't fancy that in mid winter.
