Why is Sue Grey wearing two scarves? Is this a thing now?

Exhibits A and B- It is an...umm...interesting look.

I am in peri menopause and feel like a latent volcano. I don't even want to wear one scarf! But the two-scarf thing? Is it a fashion memo that has passed me by? Or just the stylings of an eccentric woman?

I think those are bulletproof scarves. The more the better!

SmolCat · 27/01/2022 12:17

@Sadgirlsummer

One for warmth and one for emotional support after a shitter of a few weeks at work Grin
Emotional supposed scarf sounds like a brilliant idea. I’m going to go and dig one out of the wardrobe for myself.
Youngstreet · 27/01/2022 12:18

I have frequently worn two scarves for a while now. Mainly because I wear a light one indoors and add a warmer one when going outside

RandomDent · 27/01/2022 13:04

Is it time to bring back the Mumsnet Scarf? uk.louisvuitton.com/eng-gb/products/leopard-stole-001389

Ozanj · 27/01/2022 13:06

Wool scarves are itchy so it feels nice to put a pashmina style underneath. Plus you can take off the wool scarf but keep the pashmina on as a shawl once you’re indoors.

Spudlet · 27/01/2022 13:10

One to keep her neck warm

One for whipping off and lassoing fleeing Ministers and SpADs with Grin

Go Sue Gray!

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 27/01/2022 13:12

I'm another that wears indoor and outdoor scarves. I have been lambasted on here in the past but I think indoor scarves are timeless.

pilates · 27/01/2022 13:14

I’m not sure but it looks very nice.

WingBingo · 27/01/2022 13:20

She needs the Lenny scarf.

Ooh the Lenny scarf is stunning! I have a similar infinity one from Zara. It is so snuggly like someone giving you a warm hug

Aaah fond memories Smile. Back in the days when DD was young and we still frequented play areas, I almost went up to a woman wearing this scarf to ask her if she was an MNer. Chickened out at the last minute

Ohh I do like the idea of an indoor and outdoor scarf though! Maybe it’s cold in her office? Or she’s getting rid of Itchy woollen feelings? Maybe she needs a spare to whack Johnson on the head with 🤣

RandomDent · 27/01/2022 14:26

@Amrapaali
I once saw someone in the park eyeing up my discount Kurt Geiger trainers, as I did hers… Grin

Salmakia · 27/01/2022 14:35

I sometimes double scarf and have a friend who does the same. It is usually cotton/linen scarves that I keep on indoors and then on a very cold day a knitted type scarf that would be worn with an outdoors coat too.

shewhomustbeEbayed · 27/01/2022 14:36

I’ve been wearing 2 scarves for a while, it works if you have different textures and contrasting colours, I wrap them round together and they look sophisticated. It makes scarves which are boring on their own, more interesting. I was always after buying more interesting “feature” scarves but discovered I could create that look from two.

BaronessBomburst · 27/01/2022 15:12

Right, so who also does pins and brooches?

Amrapaali · 27/01/2022 16:31

I do Smile

But only as a huge decorative button on shirts if the neckline is too low. Or pinned on to hats. Or sometimes bags. But never pinned to my lapel!

LiveFromNewYork · 27/01/2022 22:09

I often have two scarves on outside, one lightweight (normally patterned) and one wool (plain). Love scarves so any excuse to pile them on

BaronessBomburst · 27/01/2022 23:42

You do hats too! Grin

MsFogi · 27/01/2022 23:45

I do this! Scarf that I will keep in while working at my desk in the office and scarf on top of that because obvs I need an 'outdoor' scarf or I'd be cold Grin

MistySkiesAfterRain · 28/01/2022 00:27

She has bare legs in pic 1 which looks like madness. I wear a pashmina in the office as its freezing. I like the idea, why not?

Meh2020 · 28/01/2022 00:48

@Thirtytimesround

She’s a civil servant, not a politician, not a public figure. She’s been shoved into the limelight with a rubbish task by her selfish boss and now she’s famous.

Could we perhaps not mock her clothing choices on a website set up to support women?

Just a thought.

I agree but…
  • she looks absolutely knackered poor woman; and
  • I think maybe she’s previously left one in the office, found it when she was next in but then had two scarves so wore both so she didnt forget either
midsomermurderess · 28/01/2022 01:08

The po-faced upbraiding on a Style and Beauty is becoming increasingly tiresome. I sometimes thing there are posters on rotation sent to hunt down something deemed to be unacceptable and we must all be scolded for it.

MissTrip82 · 28/01/2022 08:54

Hahahaha. ‘I would comment on a man also’.

Weird how often people commenting on a woman’s appearance definitely absolutely would say the same about a man……but just never have.

So strange.

Did you miss all of the comments about Dominic Cummings's clothes at the time? Weird how determined you are not to see this.
