Why is Sue Grey wearing two scarves? Is this a thing now?

Exhibits A and B- It is an...umm...interesting look.

I am in peri menopause and feel like a latent volcano. I don't even want to wear one scarf! But the two-scarf thing? Is it a fashion memo that has passed me by? Or just the stylings of an eccentric woman?
@H1Drangea why does indoor scarf ring a bell? Was it popular on MN a few years ago?
I remember that 😂

HangingOutTheOldLoveLetters · 27/01/2022 11:04

Listen with heating costs it's a thing here!

Amrapaali · 27/01/2022 11:08

The label came from me @Floisme Grin. I was just wondering out loud, is all..

TBH you can be an upfront, straight-shooting gal and still be eccentric- maybe in your outfits, what you eat, your house decor etc etc

On a side note, I have been pleasantly surprised by the speed at which the report has been dealt with. I was almsot prepared for it to go the way of other inquiries- dragging on for months, if not years and then quietly kicked into the long grass and abandoned.

Well she is hardly up there on the fashion stakes.

Oh and no tights? Weird combo.

ChoiceMummy · 27/01/2022 11:31

If I'm wearing a scarf with my outfit, I'll then wear my outdoor scarf as well if putting on a big winter coat and it's cold. Doesn't seem off to me.

Mumdiva99 · 27/01/2022 11:34

My first thought was indoor and outdoor scarf. With offices keeping windows open more now it's important to layer up.

womaninatightspot · 27/01/2022 11:37

I do that sometimes. I often use a scarf as a face covering it looks like it could be easily tugged up and tightened

BaronessBomburst · 27/01/2022 11:40

I always wear a scarf, even in summer. My neck hates draughts and seizes up. I have often rocked the scarf but no tights combo.
I'm also currently wearing a scarf indoors.
Please don't evict me from the thread! Grin

@Floisme

She's age 60+ so I would imagine way past the peri menopausal volcano stage.

I don't know where the 'eccentric' label comes from. I gather she used to run a bar in Northern Ireland and takes no shit. I am looking forward immensely to her report.

Read that re. the pub in NI during the Troubles. Presume it means she was a spook.
QuestionsorComments · 27/01/2022 11:42

She looks like a woman who wears what she needs to be comfortable to me. Just like every man in the entire world.

Amrapaali · 27/01/2022 11:44

This is very interesting and very new to me- posters who wear indoor scarves. Does the scarf not get in the way with dangly ends? Say when you are cooking or cleaning?

The received wisdom (and what I do as well) is layer up with another jumper or a fluffy hoody. More coverage than a scarf no?

The title reminded me of Gary Oldman playing the drunk actor in Friends. “I’m wearing two belts!”

HangingOutTheOldLoveLetters · 27/01/2022 11:48

Dangly ends : either a snood or a long enough scarf where you can fling the ends over your shoulders

Howshouldibehave · 27/01/2022 11:50

If I was that cold that I needed two scarves, I’d put a pair of thick tights or trousers on!

Purplewithred · 27/01/2022 11:50

With the job she has to do she can wear as many scarves as she likes. (I really like the way it looks too, and especially as it gives me a great excuse to go and buy some plain scarves to go with my billions of patterned ones)

I don’t know if it was a popular thing or something people didn’t like
A scarf is lighter than an extra jumper / hoodie and is better at keeping the back of your neck warm ( and draughts free )

AprilLady · 27/01/2022 11:55

I think it’s preparation for the very frosty reception her report is likely to receive from Boris!

Loopytiles · 27/01/2022 11:57

She’s a civil servant, imagine offices are cold! She might, for example, keep a scarf there to wear during the day, and shoved another one on top when heading out.

BaronessBomburst · 27/01/2022 12:00

An infinity scarf doesn't have ends. For a regular scarf, it depends how you wear it. You can easily tuck under the ends of a square scarf, where as in the summer I'll wear a long scarf just thrown across my shoulder, all floaty and drapey.

Amrapaali · 27/01/2022 12:10

I like infinity scarves. Much more stylish than the ordinary ones.
