This picture is very unflattering - why does John Lewis think it's a good look? I'd probably look even worse in them by the way.

OP posts:

She has no pubes. I'm all for a Brazilian, but no triangle looks odd.

ShirleyPhallus · 16/01/2022 17:36

Looking at ASOS a lot of the models seem to be wearing nipple covers underneath their bra, presumably so they don’t have to photoshop them out

To be honest, I could do without seeing someone’s pubes in a knicker advert so photoshopping them out is ok with me

Ikeabag · 16/01/2022 17:58

At least it's honest. I can feel how itchy they are from here and I know that waistband would slip down and sit right in my csec scar. Also, knickers that only cover half the arse are the worst. They also look too small for the model which is unhelpful - in all directions. I would rage at these after 5 minutes in them and throw them across the room. I'm a similar build to the model, she looks pretty uncomfortable in them too I'd say.

5128gap · 16/01/2022 18:01

No. Unpopular view here I know, but I have zero interest in seeing clothes displayed on a relatable model. Unless she looks exactly like me, it gives me no more idea of how the item will look on me than if it were shown on a traditional model. Plus, after decades of buying stuff for my own body I can use my imagination. To be tempted by an item I would need it to be presented in an attractive way, and I don't think those pants look nice on the model. Which is more to do with them being nasty looking pants than what the model looks like.

StarlightLady · 16/01/2022 18:15

They are lovely knickers! Yes, l would buy them. No, lets get this right, I will treat myself to a pair. I like them and it’s good to see them on a normal sized model. Neither obese nor anorexic looking. A real women with curves.

How on Earth can anyone say the image looks prepubescent? She has serious womanly curves. Do they say the same about a woman who doesn’t have hairy armpits, or come to that, a man who shaves his face?

I'm a size 8-10 I'm real too. My DD is a UK size 6 and also real. Can we stop with the real woman crap? Re the pic the knickers aren't flattering, someone needs to have words with the stylist and photographers.

An advertiser's dream. They don’t care about body positivity/ women. They care about making sales. Why can’t people see that? It’s clearly working, I’ll give them that….

ISpyCobraKai · 16/01/2022 18:25

I'm an adult human female, therefore woman, unless the definition has changed and its only females above a certain weight?
What are those under that then fake women?
Or perhaps there's a lot of v rude and quite frankly thick people on this thread.

Boood · 16/01/2022 18:40

I don’t know why anyone would buy mesh knickers, they look incredibly uncomfortable. I’ve just discovered Stripe & Stare bamboo knickers- pretty, comfortable and completely biodegradable. Perfect.

StarlightLady · 16/01/2022 19:01

I am still puzzled by those who find baggy knickers more comfy.

@Glowtastic - l apologise. My wording was done in haste but clumsy.

Ohmycron · 16/01/2022 19:05

@ChiefInspectorParker

No. They look too small and don’t flatter the model.
Exactly

Since I discovered them a couple of years ago, Stripe and Stare are the only knickers I wear. I am size 8-10 and size up to medium and they are so comfortable; I couldn't stand to have too small knickers that fitted like the JL ones.
LoveLabradors · 16/01/2022 19:08

Tall and slim people are “real women” too.

WaltzingToWalsingham · 16/01/2022 19:37

@KiloWhat Actually I didn't call the model fat. I said she was overweight, which she clearly is. But really, it doesnt matter what I called her. Plump, curvy, voluptuous, well-built - all these euphemisms amount to the same thing, which is being overweight. It may be "normal" to be overweight, because it's so common, but the fact that so many of us no longer recognise that we (or our children) are overweight is part of the problem. Refusing to name it doesn't help anyone.

Agree completely with this. It's normal now in the UK but it's not great. And as for "not overwhelming the NHS" the current weight issue in the UK will account for a far larger portion of treatments and admissions to hospital than covid ever will.

SavBbunny · 16/01/2022 19:47

@Glowtastic

You are correct. All models wear a skin coloured thong with lingerie. As the website is unrestricted it cannot show 'nudety'.

TooManyPJs · 16/01/2022 22:20

No they don't flatter her at all. I like real bodies but you need the clothes to actually suit or flatter them.

mrsrat · 16/01/2022 22:23

To all of those people saying there is nothing wrong with that photo are you blind . That is nog a nice picture that woman does NOT look good on those pants . She might look good in another style but not that one . Deluded !!!

user1493494961 · 16/01/2022 22:30

I've just had a quick look and it said '41 people are looking at this right now'. I bet they're all on Mumsnet. (I wouldn't pay £18 for those pants).

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 16/01/2022 22:38

@Santiagopink

I just think women look so weird without pubes! Unpopular opinion I know. It just looks 'blank' to me. My first thought was deep discomfort at looking at a prepubescent crotch
Yeah, not a popular opinion but I totally agree.
oviraptor21 · 16/01/2022 22:55

For PP - yes these are pants. See
dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/pants

Agree with other PP that the pubeless look is ... dispiriting. Nudity guidelines or not it perpetuates the idea that women should be pubeless. So the good work JL is doing in promoting a wider range of body shapes is partially undone.

The pants themselves look fine. I've never found mesh scratchy, so long as it's not a thong or those ones where the fabric just rides up into the crack

Perfectlystill · 16/01/2022 22:58

@Toddlerteaplease

Better than the snag adverts. I'm all for body positivity, but don't think that extremely obese models should be used, in the same way that we would be horrified if an anorexic model was used.
Agree
tobee · 16/01/2022 23:00

@PizzaDays

What do the male models look like? Are there any beer bellies? Man boobs? Probably not because this is all about publicity and trying to get us to spend money.
This!
Giggorata · 16/01/2022 23:01

@PizzaDays, I corrected my terminology directly after I posted, perhaps you didn't see it.

If we only had a delete button, eh?

And this!

Love the idea that advertisers are now getting real and aren't interested in virtue signalling to the latest ideas as much as they ever have been.
