Snag Tights email

Fully prepared to get slaughtered for this but here goes.

I've bought tights from Snag before (and really like them) so I'm obviously on their mailing list. I'm a shortarsed size 16-18 so very far from a supermodel.

They've emailed this morning to advertise their new knicker range with images of women wearing them in all their glory and it really wasn't what I wanted in my inbox on a Friday morning. My own wobbly cellulite covered arse is bad enough, I don't need to look at other people's.

It feels like the whole 'body positivity' thing is going too far to me, I'm all for people being comfortable in their own skin but does that have to involve sharing it with the rest of the world? Leaving aside the fact it's not generally healthy to be over a certain size - and that includes me.

@hedgehogger1

They don't advertise to average women. It's all morbidly obese in their campaigns. A bit of variety would be nice. Maybe some size 16-18ish? And yes the soft porn aspect seems to be a thing.
No, they dont. Because their main demographic and money spinner is young, liberal and fat women.

If you call people morbidly obese, they probably dont want you as a customer anyway, because you sound like a knob.

Typing the hashtag #snagtights into instagram is illuminating . Man after man after man.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 14/01/2022 16:28

On a side note, I don't necessarily mind porny looking pics to sell bras and knickers that are clearly meant to be seen. At least it focuses on the product!

CherryFlavourOwl · 14/01/2022 16:28

I totally agree op

peachgreen · 14/01/2022 16:29

I really don't. I see fat women who are comfortable in their own skin. That isn't inherently sexual, imo.

I also agree that we don't need to see cellulite etc on full show.

Why? Even setting aside your thoughts on body positivity, thin women have cellulite too. Why shouldn't that be reflected?

I actually emailed them about this.

Thought it was just me.

Just went through their IG feed, no "average" sized woman.

But there is man in a dress and fishnets posing provocatively....

aliasname · 14/01/2022 16:33

I love snag tights, but the photos are awful. No diversity in the models, poses which don't show the styles properly, backgrounds the same colour so you can't see the image clearly. They seem to be more focused on the models than the products.

No, you won't see 'average' sized women on their SM - this isn't a little ole company just selling tights.

I can see lots of average size women. Stop trying to be constantly offended and put out that fat women are front and centre for a change.

@FinallyGotAnIPhone

Current knickers campaign aside I find it strange that their website seems to have ONLY plus size models. I am a size 12 and bought a few pairs of tights from there last year as I’d heard good things and like the patters. I have worn them a few times and they are nice enough. Their website / marketing makes it seem they are only for plus size ladies which isn’t the case. I think reviewing and honing their marketing strategy might mean they reach a wider audience.
I jusy looked at the website and seen plenty of non plus sized ladies
godmum56 · 14/01/2022 16:36

ooo dreadful grammar/spelling

"I just looked at the website and saw"

Justkeeppedaling · 14/01/2022 16:36

I don't support all the "body positivity" stuff that's everywhere these days. IT'S NOT OK TO BE FAT!
I'm fat, and suffer because of it. I'm losing weight but adverts that tell me there's No shame in being fat, and it's ok don't rely help.
Fat people die young, and if they're ill while they're dying it can be very embarrassing for everyone when they can't fit into a normal bed/gown whatever.
DH has been volunteering at a vaccine centre. Did you know they have to have special, extra long needles for fat people?

Fat people are costing the country a fortune in taxes in one way or another.
People should stop telling us being fat is ok. It isn't ok.

TequilaBlaze · 14/01/2022 16:38

I don't understand why it's a porn aesthetic? I've had the email and it just looks like ladies standing around in pants (because that's what they're advertising) and t shirts. Doesn't seem very pornified?

I'd quite like to see more women my size (14) in addition to the very big and very small ones but overall I'd rather see too many big bums than none at all.

Sorry you hate yourself this much.

@Bbq1

Wow, just had a look at their site...I'm all for body positivity but this isn't it. Putting it frankly the larger models featured look a very unhealthy weight and are completely out of proportion and shape. I think "plus size" models are fine but I'm talking a size 18 who looks healthy, is in proportion and has an actual shape, not completely out of shape. I also agree that we don't need to see cellulite etc on full show. I think promoting very obese models as the norm is as dangerous as promoting size zero models as a standard. It's dangerous to the models themselves from a personal health perspective and potentially damaging to people who accept /aspire to those sizes as normal.
Don't need to see cellulite? Why on Earth not?!
SirChenjins · 14/01/2022 16:40

There aren't plenty - there are a few, but the vast majority are overweight or very overweight.

I think it was a Snag ad on Facebook that had me going round in circles trying to work out what I thought about it! It was a topless man in snag tights wearing makeup. I wasn't sure if he was actually a trans woman but then surely he wouldn't be allowed to be topless due to the no-female-nipple (unless for medical / breastfeeding) posts. I wasn't offended by the image itself but just confused as to why a similar picture of a topless woman, same makeup, same pose, same tights would have been banned (still can't work out what's right there!)

Magenta82 · 14/01/2022 16:41

I love their tights but their photos and adverts have been starting to put me off for a while. They need to focus on truly being inclusive.

I love their tights. I am a size 20. At Christmas I bought Snag tights for dds and dgds from size 6 to size 12. All were delighted. I saw the email and thought how nice for larger women to feel confident in appearing in those pants. To feel disgusted etc is a form of fat shaming and is wrong.
