I love scented candles but always buy really cheap ones from Aldi, the Jo Malone cheapskates. I'm willing to splash out once and buy one that smells amazing, if it's expensive that's fine. What are your favourites?

Diptyque Baies - it's the king of candles, nothing else comes close.

St Eval candles. I love them.

birch and brook

Not as spendy as Diptyque etc but we love the Woodwick crackling wick in Fireside.

Earl of East ones are fab

I like Zara’s Jo Loves designed collection. Absolute fave is Amalfi Sunrise. I’m no stranger to high end candles but that one is the absolute best.

Probably not as fancy as you're after but I love supporting artisan makers so my favorite candles come from Old Man & Magpie or The Botanical Candle Company.

Boy Smells are wonderful. Complex smell, long-lasting burn. If you're browsing why not have a look at Osmology, which carries a wide-range of different and more unusual brands.

What does actually smell like though? I see it everywhere on Instagram etc but never actually smelt it.
EllaPaella · 11/01/2022 20:48

The Aldi ones are the best though and the most fragrant!
Neom and Jo Malone hardly smell at all imo.
These ones are lovely and have a beautiful fragrance https://parkminster.co.uk

Check our the Cotswold Candle Company. Lovely wooden wicked candles that smell amazing and make a wonderful little crackling noise as they burn. Small company too. I had the bluebell one last spring, also had the Christmas tree, fig and vetiver in the autumn. They have a sale at the moment too.

Not sure where you are, or where the company delivers to, but there’s an Irish company called Clean Slate (cleanslate.ie) and they do this amazing Espresso and Coconut one that is just out of this world. It’s quite masculine and lasts very well. I often find floral candles quite sickly.

Agree.

I also love the Skandinavisk candles. Hygge and Hav are two I particularly like.

Jo Malone tomato vine. Absolutely stunning fragrance (sounds odd but it's soooo good).

faustina · 11/01/2022 21:20

Diptyque Bois Cire. (waxed wood) It smells amazing, like you just waxed all your floors (in a good way) and it lasts for ages

I'm a bit crap at fragrance descriptions. On the website is says The tangy coolness of freshly picked blackcurrant berries. A few black bunches still have their leaves, their green and aromatic scent blending with the lively, flowery accents of rose.

It does smell like what you would expect blackcurrant leaves to smell like (slightly green, slightly berry) mixed with a tiny bit of rose. I have never smelt anything the same tbh, it's gorgeous! I also have L'Ombre Dans L'Eau which is basically the same smell but in perfume form!

KiloWhat · 11/01/2022 21:32

I also love the Skandinavisk candles I didn't like Hygge but love OY, it's oceany.

Diptique did a lovely Christmas range this year I like the flocon one.

Pinchofnom · 11/01/2022 21:36

Another vote for diptyque - fave fragrances are Benjoin (it smells delicious unlit and has amazing throw) and tubereuse.

Neom also has lovely candles - happy is a firm favourite but more of a bathroom candle as it’s very spa smelling.

Sand and Fog (Californian co) sell the most amazing candles, sandalwood and vanilla is outstanding and very inexpensive but honestly as good as Diptyque

Ooh they have a sale! Thanks!

Check out Daylesford candles…they’re not cheap but totally natural and the smell goes on and on and on….best candles I’ve ever had! Bergamot is amazing!

This is my all time favourite Yankee candle. It smells fruity, but lightly spiced, just so warm and inviting. Not at all sickly and too heavy on the cloves like many winter ones. It just smells cosy.

trulyconfuseddotcom · 11/01/2022 21:58

I got given a candle for Xmas from a company called Druid Candles, it's called Woodlands and it smells like a fresh pine forest in winter. I've tried so many similar scented candles in my hunt for the perfect winter candle and THIS IS THE ONE. I love it, will definitely repurchase! They have an online shop.

Wagsandclaws · 11/01/2022 22:12

Box candle company - the orange and cinnamon is just divine.

millymae · 11/01/2022 22:17

Boy Smells Gardener is my absolute favourite.
