I love scented candles but always buy really cheap ones from Aldi, the Jo Malone cheapskates. I'm willing to splash out once and buy one that smells amazing, if it's expensive that's fine. What are your favourites?

I second the Valentte lemongrass & rosemary, I've bought it a few times now as it's got a good, strong pleasant scent - very lemony! I've tried another of their scents and was disappointed as could hardly smell it when lit.

I watched this thread with interest as I’m feeling the winter blues and wanted to treat myself, I bought the Diptyque Lychee recommended above and it’s wonderful, I’ve had it lit today while I potter about doing housework and it’s filled the whole house with the most gorgeous scent. I did spend a while in John Lewis giving them all a good sniff and the new rose one might be my next purchase. Going to save this thread for further recommendations Smile

@DedalusBloom

Sand and Fog (you can pick up from TKMaxx) are good.

I love Insolite by Diptyque but you can only get it in Liberty, which is annoying.

Trudon candles are the absolute pinnacle for me although ridiculously expensive. Their Carmelite ( mossy walls) or Solis Rex ( Versailles wooden floors) scents are so evocative.

I've taken to making my own candles. It's not that expensive and there's a company that does a note perfect Baies oil for the friends of mine who love that smell. ( it's not one of my favourites)

Can you post a link to the oil? Guessing it would work in a diffuser too? Thank you

Expensive - Diptyque figueuier. It’s my favourite, a lovely fig scent and I absolutely love it. I buy the £29ish size and don’t burn it for long. The scent lasts ages.

Mid range - Seychelles by The White Company. Beautiful. I have it burning now and I couldn’t be happier. I have the botanical one but the signature size is about £20.

Cheap - Sweet pea or Freesia by wax Lyrical. I buy them in tins for about £6 each from Boots.

Oh I fancies that one too. So many to try

Another vote for TK Maxx.

Dd loves Sand and Fog White Pumpkin, my favourite is DW Home Lavender and Camomile (which I currently have burning).

Both are richly scented, last well and most important for me, don't smell at all synthetic/chemical.

Only downside is that you can't always guarantee availability.

Liberty's candles are gorgeous. "Faraway Palm" is my favourite - oud, damask rose & cassis. I also love Diptypque and Ormonde Jayne. A friend bought me a Rituals candle for Christmas and that smells divine, even when it's not burning. Cheaper but still gorgeous & natural are Makers of Waxed Goods. You can buy direct from the US but they are regularly available from TK Maxx & Homesense at really good prices.

Homesense and TK Maxx sell Copenhagen Candles and DW candles and both brands are fantastic! A massive candle for £12 or smaller ones (but still big) for £7-£8. The smells are fantastic and the throw is brilliant!

I have a small capri blue candle from Anthropologie which I love. It has a really nice citrusy orangey scent which is quite strong and fills a small room easily when burning. It doesn't last long once cold though but I still love it.

There's quite a few different capri blues on the site so not sure what the other scents are like, but mine is in a metal blue and silver ombre tin with a gold lid.

I've got a Diptique mimosa sat in my shopping basket but just saw they do a cut hay one! Sounds divine.

@EllaPaella

The Aldi ones are the best though and the most fragrant! Neom and Jo Malone hardly smell at all imo. These ones are lovely and have a beautiful fragrance [[https://parkminster.co.uk]]
I agree, nothing better than Aldi. The crackling Embers one they had at Xmas was just gorgeous.

Best candles I ever bought are from here (and I buy a lot of candles) They’re v reasonable but last ages and burn beautifully. The fragrances are lovely and strong too. It’s a teeny company based in Scarborough. I wandered in to their market stall a few years ago while on holiday.

Lovely natural candles made with essential oils from Laura at the smallest light.co.uk she connects to the seasons uses lovely careful recycled packaging and lots of personal touches. A real antidote to large scale capitalism.

Pop over to the crafts thread on here! There’s a lovely thread where the op is so excited as she made her own using soy wax And oils, she explains it all and said it’s about £5 a candle and as nice as joe malone! Just a thought!
