What will you definitely not be buying in 2022?

Inspired by a minimalist YouTuber, I'm writing a list of things I am not buying in 2022.

  1. I'm not buying anymore one event wonders! Things which only do for the very odd event. I barely go out these days and when I do, it's generally really casual. There is no need for cocktail dresses these days.

  2. no more leggings - I have plenty and, truth be told, they don't really suit me

  3. no more pointed flat shoes. I always buy these thinking they look smart enough for whatever but also are comfy as they are flat. I actually don't love how they look on me and I I find them they comfy. No more

  4. no more dungarees! Keep trying, and keep failing, to suit these. Ditto pinafore dresses

  5. no more tights. I don't wear tights! Why do I have so many? I think it's because tights and a dress used to be my go to outfit, but now don't wear dresses in winter and don't need tights in the summer, so there is no need for a drawer full of tights

  6. mini skirts... I'm too tall and clumsy for these. Always show my arse

  7. no more jewelery, ESPECIALLY statement pieces. I don't wear them

Is anyone else shunning specific items this year? I'm doing low buy anyway, but putting this together to remind myself of specific things to avoid

No more make up unless it's to replace something I've run out of, foundation or mascara. I don't need any more. I don't wear much anymore. So I'm going to stop buying it. Good luck to me Smile

IvorCutler · 08/01/2022 20:01

I’m not buying any more boots (I have enough)

No more white shirts (they don’t suit me)

No more jeans (I need to lose weight and get into the lovely ones I already own)

I generally want to buy a lot less. I don’t need anything (other than trainers) until the summer.

Oooo good luck! I would love to give up make up! Maybe this will be the year...

Same ivor, I'm planning low buy this year.

Next thing is to write a very small list of allowed items to go with the banned list!

I'm not buying anymore clothes now.

All I wear are clothes for walking in.

Onlinedilema · 08/01/2022 20:10

I'm going to try and lose weight so that I don't have to buy any more clothes.
I'm also going to try very hard to especially not buy yet another cardigan!

FuglyBitch · 08/01/2022 20:11

Trying a no buy 2022, I’m not going to buy any of these items for myself because I have plenty:
Clothes
Shoes
Make up
Skincare
Haircare
Accessories (bags, jewellery, watches etc)

Sonata13 · 08/01/2022 20:11

I am giving up buying any clothes for the year. We are all going to be buried alive in mountains of fast fashion!

JeSuis · 08/01/2022 20:15

I reckon I might manage a no buy... won't swear to it I don't think, but I'm definitely going to give it a go!

Exceptions might have to be made for me, eg I've had to get rid of loads of pants today as they've lost their elastic. Haven't replaced yet, but I probably will, as otherwise I only have period pants, 3 thongs and 3 other... although maybe that's enough?

I also have not just enough but too many of all of these! I have cracked once in the sales (I bought a Liberty silk scarf with a gift card I had), but I'm really going to try this year.

I agree especially about the tights. I have a drawer stuffed full of them, and while I do wear them, I really don't need 25 pairs or whatever there is in there Confused

IWasFunBeforeMum · 08/01/2022 20:18

Straight jeans. I saw the trend, tried loss of different brands and rise etc. Still slip my skinnys on every single day. Must've wasted about £90 on various straights.

Yes yes yes yes and yes. All of the above.

Also.

No more coats
No more kids clothes - especially ’bargains’ - they’ve enough to last the last 12 months - I need to use the ‘good stuff’ more.

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 08/01/2022 20:36

No more bath and body stuff eg soaps, shower gels, body butters, shampoo. Got loads already.
No foundation as I've stocked on old formulation no7 before it was discontinued.
No more clothes...or shoes
The last one is painful for me but I have so much already. Don't need any more stuff.

JeSuis · 08/01/2022 20:43

I'm going to try to get by without buying anything, but my allowed list is going to be:

  1. Pants if I can't get by with what I have
  2. A big jumper or hoodie - but, my dh just got rid of one and I reckon I could nick it!

I think I can do without everything else...

Interested in the no make up idea as well. That would massively simplify my whole life really!

Showpan · 08/01/2022 20:54

I agree to no more kids clothes, bursting at the seams here! Great thread, I'm going to consider what else I will commit to not buying!

3luckystars · 08/01/2022 20:55

Fabric.

I definitely, 100% will not buy any fabric this year.

JeSuis · 08/01/2022 20:56

Do you make clothe 3luckystars?

Interesting way to look at it! I'm aiming for no buy except for exercise/active wear as I don't have any and sick of looking a state in pilates.

For me would have to be tinted lip balm, I have loads and don't even wear them.

3luckystars · 08/01/2022 21:11

No!! I buy patterns and fabric and get so unbelievably excited and then see another pattern and other fabric and never actually get around to making anything for myself!! I am going to really try hard this year to use up what I have.

DocMarteens · 08/01/2022 21:11

I solemnly swear to myself that ib 2022 I will not buy:

  1. Any more foundation. I have 8 bottles in my cabinet and I need to get through them.
  1. No more bags. If a want a new one, go into them loft and recycle what you have!
  1. No more necklaces. You NEVER wear them. Find a better way to display what you have.
Pushmepullyou · 08/01/2022 21:15

I am going for a no buy of active wear Grin I could run to the moon in mine (I won’t- couple of park runs most probably)

FuglyBitch · 08/01/2022 21:28

@JeSuis who’s the YouTuber you’ve been watching, I also watch minimalism videos, no specific YouTuber though

jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey · 08/01/2022 21:29

No skincare
No make up
No shampoo
No perfume
No clothes
No jewellery
I have enough

Sunsetsupernova · 08/01/2022 21:32

No more buying clothes in the sales which I won’t wear for at least another few months. In lockdown I bought loads of ‘bargains’ which I ended up hating by the time I came to wear them.

I’m trying to have a really minimalist year this year and cut right now on non-essentials. Only going into the office 2 days a week (in the future) will help with my need for new clothes.

JeSuis · 08/01/2022 21:36

@FuglyBitch it was A Small Wardrobe or possibly her other channel which is something like Create Authentic Style
