Is it just me or are Boden clothes usually a weensy bit disappointing when they arrive compared to how they look in the catalogue ?

Ordered a few things in the sale including a couple of skirts.

One was wool and from the picture I anticipated it to be reasonably thick and at my knees, when it came it was very thin and cheap looking and even at sale price not worth the money so now I am bagging it up to send back. The other skirt is ok, but again a lot thinner than it looked in the photo.

Anyone else experienced this or is it just me ?

My coat is fab

Wuxiapian · 17/01/2008 14:15

Which coat's that, then?!
Don't keep us all (or me) hangin'!

kittywise · 17/01/2008 14:20

Boden mini is ok, the adult's ones are very poor quality and the cut isn't up to much.

They are SOOOOO over priced.

People buy into the hype, they really want to be a Boden type, all pretty/handsome/ carefree with a smile upon their faces etc etc.

I reckon that's the only way he gets people to buy his clothes at those prices.
It's a case of the emperor's new clothes if ever I've seen one.

Having said all that I DO love the patterns and materials, I am often tempted to buy, but then remember that it only goes through a wash once and either shrinks of completely looses its shape.

dd had some slim fit super skinny jeans, but as she is 5 but size of 3 yr old she is target customer I feel,, everything fits her nicely which is hell as it is the only brand which does!
Am fancying one thing no 2 in the womens
plain dumb brown polo shirt and a brown swishy skirt.
That's it.
My wishlist for me dd and ds2 (baby) is only £332 before discounts

Disappointing, it's usually over £800!
But I never buy all that until I get offered a decent discount
Johnny listen up dude
Where the hell was my massive preview discount huh?

FlllightAttendant · 17/01/2008 14:23

Oh it is the textured cotton one in the sale. in brown.

I only like it because it is sooo nicely lined with soft cotton and silky yellow in the sleeves and was very cheap.

First buy from Johnnie and he did me proud.

However I shan't be shopping there very much as it is too expensive!

Wuxiapian · 17/01/2008 14:40

Do you get an introductory discount and, if so, how does one go about obtaining it?

FlllightAttendant · 17/01/2008 15:18

Not on sale items, Wuxy - I got sent a discount but no idea why...it was on the catalogue though which I had to apply for to get the code, and I haven't bothered yet! Try registering online for a catalogue, might do the trick!

Wuxiapian · 17/01/2008 17:31

That's a very fetching coat, Flllight! At a fetching price, too! I wouldn't be brave enough, though!

Yes, I ordered catalogue sunday, still nothing from Mr. Postie, though. Knowing my luck, the sale will've come and gone - along with the bollocking (low in stock) coat I want!

Wuxiapian · 17/01/2008 17:33

Yes, you did inform me there's no discount on sale items.

I'm just all confused. It don't take much.

FlllightAttendant · 17/01/2008 18:01

Thanks

Am confusion expert here

FlllightAttendant · 17/01/2008 18:01

...the blue version is a bit wallpapery!

Wuxiapian · 17/01/2008 18:17

Have you worn it out yet, Flllight, any responses?

Yes the other two are Laura Ashley curtainy type designs.

I've just ordered a dress and some sandals - my faffingaboutness lost me the coast I wanted. Tut.

Wuxiapian · 17/01/2008 18:17

It also lost me the damned coat!

cloudberry · 17/01/2008 23:50

Tights, sizes anyone, please?

FlllightAttendant · 18/01/2008 06:51

Sorry can't help w/tights sizes...I always buy large cos I have huge feet

Wuxy - yes, every day for about a week and everyone I've seen has said 'Ooh! Nice coat!' so on the whole am chuffed to bits!

It covers a multitude! MrsBadger's top tips include a good smart coat that just goes over everything. It's true, I finally feel like tidy person...

The colour is a bit more 'washed out' than the pics though. Canvassy sort of, but soft.

HTH! Yes I really liked the other colours but were too scary for me to actually wear!

FlllightAttendant · 18/01/2008 06:52

Oh and people visibly pale as I announce it cost about 30 quid

Try again with your coat, because these were all gone when I saw them first and then a week later they were back in stock. People return things it seems. Just keep an eye.

Nightynight · 18/01/2008 07:18

we got given a lot of boden as hand-downs, and I have to say it was not at all disappointing, it was fab! but then again I didnt pay for it

kittywise · 18/01/2008 13:17

I should send Jb a link to this thread , not that Boden would give two hoots, they've got enough money to keep pulling the wool over people's eyes.

One day, when the economy really slows down and it will, horribly over-priced and no longer- so -well made clothes like Boden's will no longer be affordable.

Wuxiapian · 18/01/2008 16:36

Yeah, well, the coat I wanted is back in stock, so obviously, as Flllight pointed out, peeps have been returning, which makes me wonder whether I should purchase it.

Decisions, decisions...

bettybeetroot · 18/01/2008 17:46

I have so had enough of Boden. I have been a customer for a few years and today asked to be taken off their mailing list - hurrah! All the clothes ordered in the past year have been utter rubbish. The final straw was almost torturing my ds 11mnths into his dinosaur pyjamas (18-24 mnths) and he is not 'fat' btw. The wrists are so abnormally small I had to really struggle to get his hands through (and I'm not one for exagerating!) I feel liberated!

cloudberry · 18/01/2008 23:20

Ha, bettybroot, snap, see my post about my disaster with pjs. My ds is 21 months and is comfortably wearing the 3 year old ones bought for my 3yr old dd, and he won't be in them by his 2nd birthday I think! Utter crap. Try the White company sale - fab!

Wuxiapian · 18/01/2008 23:54

Flip me.

White Company just as extortionate!

cloudberry · 19/01/2008 20:23

I buy in their sale and so far have been very happy. Not so with Boden now

WideWebWitch · 19/01/2008 20:49

I agree, I just sent back £131 worth of sale stuff.
