Is it just me or are Boden clothes usually a weensy bit disappointing when they arrive compared to how they look in the catalogue ?

Ordered a few things in the sale including a couple of skirts.

One was wool and from the picture I anticipated it to be reasonably thick and at my knees, when it came it was very thin and cheap looking and even at sale price not worth the money so now I am bagging it up to send back. The other skirt is ok, but again a lot thinner than it looked in the photo.

Anyone else experienced this or is it just me ?

Ooh - I feel your pain, moo!

myrrhthamoo · 21/12/2007 14:15

Thanks, Dino

I bouht chic tunic wool top
on arrival
tried on
fabulous truly awesome adore it.
after wearing one day
note:
pills badly, is dry clean only
calmly decide
don't give a flying f$ck in a rolling donut as said top hides post --beer- baby belly and makes me look slim

Worth every penny!

Does Johnny read Mumsnet? Or any of his researcher minions? They should - everything on here is true: tops far too short, fabrics cheap and nasty, skirts frumpy (haven't dared go near a wrap dress) - all gone majorly downhill in the last four years. If they lose their ardent Mumsnet fan base (which it looks like they already have) what next?!

What? Next?! lol

(P.S. Love the 'dirty Boden' comment )

DINOsaurmummykissingsantaclaus · 23/12/2007 10:24

Actually, having now unpacked the stuff I bought for the DSs in the sale - the material does seem thinner and less nice than I remembered it .

I also bought a wrap dress for myself but haven't got around to trying it on yet.

OhTheWeatherOutsideIsFrightful · 23/12/2007 22:14

Did anyone order the velvet trim baggies for their dd from the winter catalogue? My dd has worn her aminal print ones about 1/2 dozen times and the print/colour on the knees has almost worn off. This has never happend before with boden or any of her other clothes. I feel like complaining as I expect them to last a couple of years and then usually pass onto her cousin. Just wondered if anyone else found this? Am I likely to get response from complaining?

Quattrocento · 23/12/2007 22:24

all boden skirts a mistake imho

ditto the tops

the woollies and the coats are okay though

unfortunately the dcs won't wear boden - apparently it's not cool enough. I think DS would do given half a chance but he is now thoroughly brainwashed in the boden-is-totally-naff school of thought by his older sister.

MrsSchadenfreude · 27/12/2007 11:32

Tops always much too short - made for titless women. Children's clothes, which always used to fit chunky DD1, now seem to be cut much narrower - the new baggies (ha!) are very fitted on her bum, before flaring out. Friend bought pair of age 13 trousers for her tall and slim 10 year old and she can't even get them over her bum.

I read somewhere (here?) that Johnny likes his women slim and with small boobs - perhaps he cuts his clothes accordingly?

FooFooTheSnoo · 27/12/2007 11:43

I got some lovely tops for the children but I have noticed the sizing seems to be smaller these days.

Never usually buy for me but got a lovely dress this year and a velvet jacket.

melpomene · 27/12/2007 12:05

I've got this skirt in black and it's very nice and earns compliments.

Agree that tops are much too tight and short though (and I'm only 5ft 2in). I'm normally size 10 on top, but need size 14 if it's from Boden (whereas the Boden skirt I've got is size 8).

MrsSchadenfreude · 27/12/2007 13:37

I spit on Johnny Boden and return to Monsoon.

DarrellRivers · 27/12/2007 13:42

the only things that fit me are the lovely long swishy silk skirts.
Trousers too baggy and too long (but am short so expect them to be short but not baggy)
tops never fit, short length and short sleeves
dreadful quality material for womenswear and yes, fuddyduddyyawn
quite like the girls stuff though and that lasts.

RuDiegetheRedNosedReinDiege · 27/12/2007 16:23

I am titless and short(5'2) and the tops are still short and square-like on me . Have just returned from trip out wearing rainyday coat. Had major annoyance -turning to rage- turning to panic near tears on trying to open top rubber button...honestly thought I would have to cut the bleedin thing off!
Oh and WEATHEROUTSIDE I have 2 pairs of velvet trim baggies for dd3 (the flower print and spotty ones) and the knees are fading on each (she doesn't even crawl in them)Going off stupid cropped trousers for babaies anyway in the winter!!

bramblebooks · 27/12/2007 21:06

I feel exactly the same way - always a bit disappointed, especially for the price JB charges. Fabrics really not up to it and sizing is definitely a little 'creative'.

cloudberry · 04/01/2008 20:03

Just wanted to add my pennysworth.... Bought pyjamas for dd and ds. DD is 3 and bought her age 3 size. They fit my 21 month ds beautifully! Agree women's stuff hideously frumpy in general and last woollen thing I bought 18 months ago I ended up passing on to charity shop, awful quality. Bought White Company pjs in sale and age 3-4 years are great on dd with room to spare for next year!

cardy · 14/01/2008 11:39

Don't get me started with Boden! Children's clothes tiny, women's clothes frumpy, outrageous number of catalogs through the post, the list goes on....

RosaLuxOnTheBrightSideOfLife · 14/01/2008 14:27

When they arrive....
Well the stuff I have had this year that has arrived hasn't been too impressive. Am wearing a cardigan today that has been worn twice before and it has bobbled.
And don't get me started on the mystery of the disappearing dress.

LynetteScavo · 14/01/2008 14:35

lol at "Dirty Boden". I'm so over Boden, and have returned to Gap. I don't even think Johny writes the descriptions of the clothes any more.

The shoes are soo expensive, which is a shame cos theyr'e really comfy.

LynetteScavo · 14/01/2008 14:37

Rosa, Don't they have their dedicated team of people out searching for your parcel? At one point I almost became personal friends with one member of the team!

cardy · 14/01/2008 15:09

Actually it the number of catalogs arrivinf inthe post each week that really annoys me. I have phoned them and asked them to stop sending them...they still come. The quality doesn't bother me....I just don't buy them.

LynetteScavo · 14/01/2008 16:25

I get them a work too, as I've had parcells delivered there. Hundreds and hundreds of Boden catologues filling postmens sacks all over the country.

Wuxiapian · 16/01/2008 19:24

I've just ordered a Boden catalogue.

That was a mistake, then?

cloudberry · 16/01/2008 20:17

Can anyone tell me about the sizing on girls tights? Should I get size 5-6 for my 3year old dd after the ridiculous sizing on her pjs? She keeps ripping holes in her tights and Boden tights are still available in the sale.

margoandjerry · 16/01/2008 20:29

Boden has become like Gap for me. I always fancy being the sort of person who can wear a simple pair of jeans and a round-necked jumper and who spends their time running about on a beach in the winter and looking all carefree and like the sort of person who has a second home in Cornwall.

In reality if I wore that my boobs would look like they started at my neck, the jeans would be straining underneath my caesarean overhang and I would look like someone who slightly smelled like animals who was just off out to muck out the horses in an ancient waxed jacket (my aunt in other words )

Wuxiapian · 17/01/2008 14:11

How do the dresses size up?

I've succumbed to the beautifully bright world of Boden.

Not sure whether to order 10 or 12. I have size 12 top and 10 bottoms, damnit.
