Is it just me or are Boden clothes usually a weensy bit disappointing when they arrive compared to how they look in the catalogue ?

Ordered a few things in the sale including a couple of skirts.

One was wool and from the picture I anticipated it to be reasonably thick and at my knees, when it came it was very thin and cheap looking and even at sale price not worth the money so now I am bagging it up to send back. The other skirt is ok, but again a lot thinner than it looked in the photo.

Anyone else experienced this or is it just me ?

Well I look gorgeous in my Topshop wrap moondog .

the Boden thing I order was terrible though - flappy sleeves, hem about 3 inches below my knee and I'm 5'9", so obviously designed for giants. Pattern looked nice kooky retro in catalogue, more like MIL's curtains in RL. I have never been so disappointed.

moondog · 20/12/2007 13:00

So you think Barry..

I used to think I looked terrific in my bottle green boiler suit in 1985.

I was ver' ver' wrong 'bout that.

MamaG · 20/12/2007 13:01

LMAO

ImBarryScott · 20/12/2007 13:02

reckon I could carry off that boiler suit too.

bring it on.

moondog · 20/12/2007 13:04

I'll dig it out of my attic.

My sisters used to snigger nad call it my chemistry overalls but I WOULD NOT LISTEN.

I would therefore recommend a major rething re wrap dress. The way it puuuulllllls over an expanse of bum cheeks is not good.

turquoise · 20/12/2007 13:07

I bought one of these pre-sale (grrr) and have only worn it once - it's so thin and feeble it's ridiculous and in spite of being a 14 is a bit small on the norks. God knows why I didn't send it back, fule that I am.

theangelshavethephonebox · 20/12/2007 13:08

this thread has saved me loads of cash - thank you!

ImBarryScott · 20/12/2007 13:08

mine doesn't pull over my bumcheeks. Perhaps your bumcheeks are not of standard shape/size/regularity?

turquoise · 20/12/2007 13:09

Just seen it says "lightweight" fabric - they're not kidding!

moondog · 20/12/2007 13:11

I have a pair of perfectly acceptable size 12 bumcheeks actually kept in check by regular trips to the gym and a wide berth given to the biscuit aisle.

They remind me of the (one and only) amusing quote by that Ferguson woman who said her arse looked like two ferrets fighting in a sack.

Rookietherednosedreindeer · 20/12/2007 13:11

Oh turquoise, I was going to buy that but was put off by the fact it said dry clean only (I refuse to buy tops that are Dry clean or handwash only) and the only colour left in my size was a hideous mung bean colour and this was pre sale as well.

I have given up with women's stuff from boden (except for coats) but I do love their children's things.... although have been waiting 5 days since my sale lot was despatched and it still hasn't arrived ...grrrrrrrr.....

ImBarryScott · 20/12/2007 13:15

anyhow, have sent the ole' "chic" dress back to uncle Johnny, and have kept this in brown. Will this too have ruinous effect on already blancmange-like bumcheeks?

NB - do not intend to wear it whilst trotting through a wallpapered hallway, unlike clearly deranged model

moondog · 20/12/2007 13:17

Hmmmmm,I think it's a bit booooring myself but who knows, it could look good in a powercut.

ImBarryScott · 20/12/2007 13:18

lol

perhaps it only works on those under 30?

frothykindofadrink · 20/12/2007 13:19

my friend had a boden wrap dress it didn't wash well it bobbled

I was v excited about the sale till I realised all the clothes were really boring

also everything is plum

or grey

or aquamarine really who wears that?

moondog · 20/12/2007 13:22

I like looking at the sale stuff, if only to confirm waht I felt on first looking at the new stuff. One sort of knows what will and wont be a good seller and is rearely wrong.

I remember a particualrly nasty pair of towelling shorts that nonone sane wanted.

PestohohohoMonster · 20/12/2007 13:26

I ordered some stuff on Friday in the sale for the dds and not only did it arrive on Tuesday (which I thought was quick), but it was gorgeous. Both dds were dead chuffed and wanted to wear their stuff straightway. Tbh, I think the childrens stuff is really good. Don't buy a lot for me.

Have just returned from post office and said disappointing skirt and too tight shoes have cost me £4.95 to return.

So with the £4.00 delivery charge, I have spent a total of around £80.00 on a dull plain very thin material sateen effect black skirt and a rather nice cream cable knit cream cardigan that moults every where.

Harummph,Mr Johnny Farkin Boden next time I shall be sticking to elsewhere for my purchases ( tries franticially to think of what shops are suitable for slightly overweight late thirties type who wishes to be slightly stylish)

I the catalogues the clothes are bulldog clipped into shape around the models waists. The long boots are also clipped so it looks like they fit their pipe cleaner calves .

I have just ordered for the first time in years, as the boden 'smugness' in the catalogue made me want to pull my eyelashes out.

Yes the clothes are thinner quality. But I got spotty wedges, v neck tee and pencil skirt for £40 . So i'm not complaining that much!

5goldrings4MONKEYBIRDs · 20/12/2007 14:25

only thing worth buying from Johnny IMHO is dresses designed, apparently by Trinny and Susannah or Gok Wan (who I love, of course) and their lined trousers. And I never buy em new, but from someone on ebay who seems to sell only graded/returned items (factory seconds?)

But wondering whether Boden fits into my trademarked BFNazi uniform now I am (BF again that is) or whether I have to go back to the old stripey Guatemalan wrap sling with tie-dyed dress underneath, and a pair of Birkies on my feet...?

ArcticRoll · 20/12/2007 14:37

Only buy stuff in the sale, usually just for dc.
However ordered washed velvet coat for me and it arrived today and it is hideous.
Tatty looking fabric and bad stitching.
Sending straight back.
Made in China so probably totally unethical too.
I'm sure when I first started buying Boden six or seven years ago their stuff was made in Britain and Europe so you felt the high prices were justified.

Rookietherednosedreindeer · 20/12/2007 14:40

Flippin great my own blinkin thread and somehow my least favourite term ever, even when used ironically about self 5goldrings, has made its way on to a completely unrelated topic, grrrr
