SotD is MH's Hidden Found at Dusk. This opens with a sparkling citrus, mint and basil accord, which then falls away revealing only a distant musk/wood, before a subdued blackcurrant leaf and tomato leaf come into view. The heart of this scent is a multi-layered fruity herbaceous stage, underscored with soft slightly powdery musk, creating very pretty harmonics. The handling of the strong leaf notes is so delicate and understated, that the whole composition feels whispered.
When the green fruit notes fade, an earthy, slightly sweet vanilla skin scent is exposed. This has a slight nip of a high pitched balsam fir which keeps a hint of sharpness in the composition 'til the last. This stage is so hushed you have to strain to detect it. At this point, if you really concentrate, you notice a faint family resemblance to (the incomparably more interesting and impressive) Tender.
It's an odd thing for MH to have released. There's lots to enjoy, but it's so muted, bar the exuberant opening, that it is as though you are smelling something happening next door, or through glass. Glad it was sub-£20 at TK Maxx as I can spray, spray, and spray again, and enjoy on days when it would be inappropriate to smell too obviously of perfume.
Recommended if you don't mind having to work quite hard.
