Shit. Do I look "Witchy"?

Saw an ex-colleague in town today. Not seen her for c7/8 years. Bit of chit chat, small talk. And then "So you have embraced the grey. I thought of doing it in lockdown but was scared of having that witchy vibe... You're kind of rocking it though...." A bit of a pause, a change of subject and soon after we went our separate ways.

DIdn't think much of it then. But now it is digging at me. Do I look witchy? Midlength grey curls. A bit of frizz - then my curls nearly always have a bit of frizz.

Photos attached. Would normally be wash- day today - but playing sport tomorrow morning so eeking it out an extra day - so not an "insta-best-photo-possible.

Should I listen to the "Witchy" or the "Rocking it"? I know I look my age and don't really care. But I am just wondering if I need to rethink the length/style? I am nearly 50 (like days from being 50) so wondering if am over-thinking it cos of that...just having a bit of a crisis.

Honest opinions please?

Witchy. But in a really good way

Lovely clear grey too not murky or brassy

I think you look amazing

ArabellaScott · 04/12/2021 20:57

You look fantastic and your hair is stunning.

I am painfully honest about these things, too.

Lineofconcepcion · 04/12/2021 20:57

More bewitching than witchy . . .

TonkinLenkicks · 04/12/2021 20:57

I think you’re stunning.

LoveMyPiano · 04/12/2021 20:57

Psst:
50 is not "that old" (and is mildy offensive to those older....)
Sad

I think you look pretty darn good. I would never guess your age. What bags. You have normal eyes, in fact, amazing eyes for your age with just a little shading concealer would take care of if you're concerned.

My unbiased thoughts: it was a mean comment, unnecessary. How did she look?

Ideas:
I have similar hair. I find it hard to rock a middle parting. Maybe you could try and tease your hair to one side or the other.
Maybe the front is more of a bob and not longer than the back may look even better. Something like this if the pic posts?

Other than that be more duck. Let those comments roll over and off you. Comments that are important are the ones that come from those who love and care about you. Those who will always be honest and kind.

Is your friend's hair straight? Maybe she thought SHE would look like a witch. You definitely do not!

lightisnotwhite · 04/12/2021 21:00

It’s a cool from me too!

CaMePlaitPas · 04/12/2021 21:01

I think you look beautiful, hoping I look as good as you at 50.

ChoporNot · 04/12/2021 21:01

@Pascal80

You are a very beautiful woman but the hairstyle is awful.

It is grey and straggly and very ageing and doesn't look right on your delicate features. The grey is too cool in tone for your skin. The front pieces are too long and unbalanced with the rest of it.

No offence - you are great looking.

Thank you. I think.

Just out of curiousity, what would you suggest I do about the grey. My naturaly colour? Dye it? No thank you. Been there. Done that. Got the growing it out T-shirt. Or should I dye my skin tone (I know, not possible). To be honest, the hair/skin tone combination is way, way better now than when it was dyed "warm-bloarange" a decade ago.

And you say it is ageing in which way? Because it is grey? How old do I look? 50? I am 50. Or do I look older?

I shall take your opinion on board about the style - and the length of the front. Also as I mentioned up above, it does need a wash, and that can mean the curl drops particuarly at the front. I haven't attached an "insta" photo. This is not me at by best - just average.

I love it! I have curly hair and am 46 and I’m thinking of embracing the grey in the next free years. I hope I look as good as you.

RaoulDufysCat · 04/12/2021 21:03

I absolutely love your look. You have really beautiful hair and you are very pretty.

Your colleague is rude, and possibly jealous.

DickeryDock · 04/12/2021 21:03

Genuinely looks awesome 👏

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 04/12/2021 21:03

I would take witchy as a big compliment - sadly my hair is of the 'limp spaghetti' variety.

SugarlumpsesBumpses · 04/12/2021 21:04

You look gorgeous! Love the curls and love the colour!!!

Partyowl · 04/12/2021 21:07

Witchy? No, Nope, No x

FreeBritnee · 04/12/2021 21:08

Perfect!

Benjispruce5 · 04/12/2021 21:09

Not witchy at all. If she thought you looked witchy she wouldn’t have said it to you.

StevieNicksscarf · 04/12/2021 21:10

Can I join in the defence of the witches please. Having had v dark hair and bluey white skin since birth I was often assigned the "witch" role by friends. Particularly when acting out The Wizard of Oz (which used to upset me greatly).

My DD told me many years ago that when her friends used to come round to play they thought I was a witch Hmm Grin. I told her to tell them not to misbehave or I might put a spell on them (lighthearted of course!).

As a middle aged woman with long dark hair which is now going grey I am reaching full on "witch" mode and am loving it. I feel that witch as an insult is pure misogyny in action.

All hail the power of the witch.Grin

MatildaJayne · 04/12/2021 21:10

Not sure how your natural colour ‘doesn’t suit you?’

Your hair looks great OP. My hair is now pretty much silver and I love it. No more dyeing, no need for highlights/lowlights as it has it’s own.

I think of ‘witchy’ as being a bit more box dyed black up against ageing skin, so looking harsh and unnatural.

Benjispruce5 · 04/12/2021 21:10

I love the cut btw. I’d wear a stronger lip colour, not that you need my advice.

ILoveAllRainbowsx · 04/12/2021 21:11

I wish I looked like you.

Bellyups · 04/12/2021 21:13

You’re smoking OP. Nothing g witchy there.

Ignore your ex-colleague.

ChoporNot · 04/12/2021 21:13

SIde partings. I hate them. Probably/possibly look better but it flops and then I sweep it out of the way and then I am touching it too much and then it goes frizzy and the curl drops and then I fiddle with it and then it goes even frizzier. And repeat. Urghh. Grin

The longer front than back. It is a relatively newish style for me and as I am growing it longer. Cut previous to this one was not great (very uneven) so it was kind of the best solution. Need the shortnes/layers at the back as otherwise it can look very flat. Didn't want to go as short at the sides/front. I quite like it but am taking stuff on board

I love those styles @DeeperDownTheRabbitHole and used to have similar in my 20s - but wary of "short-grey-curly-hair" looking a bit twinset-and-pearls like my mum

Shit. Do I look "Witchy"?

You look elegant and cool. People can be so strange about grey hair (or about remarks on women's appearance in general!).
