Shit. Do I look "Witchy"?

Saw an ex-colleague in town today. Not seen her for c7/8 years. Bit of chit chat, small talk. And then "So you have embraced the grey. I thought of doing it in lockdown but was scared of having that witchy vibe... You're kind of rocking it though...." A bit of a pause, a change of subject and soon after we went our separate ways.

DIdn't think much of it then. But now it is digging at me. Do I look witchy? Midlength grey curls. A bit of frizz - then my curls nearly always have a bit of frizz.

Photos attached. Would normally be wash- day today - but playing sport tomorrow morning so eeking it out an extra day - so not an "insta-best-photo-possible.

Should I listen to the "Witchy" or the "Rocking it"? I know I look my age and don't really care. But I am just wondering if I need to rethink the length/style? I am nearly 50 (like days from being 50) so wondering if am over-thinking it cos of that...just having a bit of a crisis.

Honest opinions please?

You don't look witchy. You are actually stunning and I love your curls. I do however think the colour washes you out a bit.

Ummm ‘Witchy’ was a 100% meant as a compliment. I’ve only ever heard it meant as a compliment in recent years cos it’s been a huge trend - think Stevie Nicks, Black Magic Woman, The Love Witch,
I’m 20 years younger than you so maybe the term is used differently amongst my age group. You look amazing.

No no no you look super cool and very beautiful. There’s a whole community of people growing out their colour and embracing the grey on Instagram - try the #silversisters tag (don’t ask how I accidentally stumbled across this, as I have no idea, particularly as my own mother and grandmother are/were still blonde at 66 and 80 respectively, and I bloody love grey hair on older women so I am jealous!)

My own particular favs are @sweet.simple.something and @thesilverlining_1970 and you look as great as both of them!

Going slightly against the grain - you are indeed stunning, but I think you would look even more stunning if you lopped a couple of inches off. It's quite straggly at the ends.

It is looking a bit straggly today. As in my OP, it does needs a wash...so the front bits are less curly and the very ends have gone a bit straighter than normal and look a bit out of whack.

But thank you - I shall keep an eye on it. Only a month since my last cut (normally only get it cut every 6-8 months to be honest) but my HRT (yep that old) was a bit low so was experiencing a bit of hair loss for a while. Now calmed down again so I shall keep an eye on it.

If the wash and HRT settling doesn't de-straggle it I shall book in earlier than normal to thicken the bottom a bit. now that is not a phrase I ever thought I'd type

I like it, especially from the side. The two comments aren't necessarily related. Some women look like a witch in a bad way with grey hair, depending what cut they have.

It could be:-
'I was thinking of going grey but was scared of that witchy vibe'
'You are kind of rocking it' (Rocking the grey, managing to avoid witchy in a bad way.)

If you see what I mean.

I don't think you look overly witchy at all, it's quite fashionable looking.

P.s i dont think your ex colleague was jealous or bitter, like everyone is saying. I think she was saying you looked great. I really think the meaning of the term has changed cos it’s been so widely used as a positive in fashion/music.

In your friend’s defense, I tried embracing the grey and “witchy” is probably a really good description. I have very fine hair and the greys were coarse so just weighed everything down and I couldn’t get it soft and bouncy.

Crispy is good! Let it dry (or gently diffuse dry) and then scrunch your hair gently - the crunch goes but the curls have been "set".

I would just trim the curls at the front to even out the overall length

You are a very beautiful woman but the hairstyle is awful.

It is grey and straggly and very ageing and doesn't look right on your delicate features. The grey is too cool in tone for your skin. The front pieces are too long and unbalanced with the rest of it.

No offence - you are great looking.
