Can I wear this for dinner and drinks in Soho?

I've just bought this:

www.johnlewis.com/whistles-lattice-print-quinn-jumpsuit-blue/p4989221?size=18

I have dinner and drinks with friends booked in Soho. I know London isn't dressy, but is this a bit too casual...? We aren't going clubbing or anything.

Do you think I can dress this up for nice curry place and maybe a bar?

Yeah that’s fine. I was there a couple of weeks ago, you see all sorts.

idontlikealdi · 21/11/2021 11:07

It's very summery. You could literally wear anything in soho but what shoes / coat would you wear with that now it's getting colder?

supremelybaffled · 21/11/2021 11:08

Don't much like it, sorry, and no I wouldn't have said it was right, really.

Palavah · 21/11/2021 11:08

It's not too casual but I agree you might be a bit chilly. What are you wearing with it?

mynameiscalypso · 21/11/2021 11:09

I think you'd freeze!

Smorgasborb · 21/11/2021 11:13

Well it's 'fine' and anything goes in Soho really (so not sure what wouldn't have been fine) but it looks like the kind of thing one would wear to a summer BBQ not drinks in December.

You can't wear it alone so What would you wear it with? Cardi makes its instantly frumpy. Suit jacket would look a little weird.

Will definitely wear with layers!

I'm not sure I want to go too cosy, as once I'm inside, I don't want to be sweating...

To the pp who doesn't like it - I'll try it on and see how it is, but it does look like the sort of jumpsuit I like and that suits my shape. I will keep it if it looks nice on, even if not for this occasion. So I don't necessarily need to know if everyone dislikes it if that makes sense and in the nicest possible way.

If it helps, I'm plus size, tall-ish and normally live in Lucy and Yak boiler suits. So appreciate my style isn't to everyone's liking.

I really like it but agree it looks summery. I cant think what shoes/jacket etc I'd put with it for a winter evening.

MaryStuart · 21/11/2021 11:21

It’s very summery.
Where are you going?
I actually think a L&Y boiler suit would be better!
I presume you’re talking about something like this:
lucyandyak.com/products/ragan-organic-cotton-boilersuit-in-black-new-fit
Or
lucyandyak.com/products/juni-linen-cotton-sleeveless-boilersuit-in-black

I think both of those look better, and fine for Soho drinks and dinner (as I said depending where you’re doing) than the summery blue one.

MaryStuart · 21/11/2021 11:22
  • going
AntiCornLawLeague · 21/11/2021 11:22

I've also just got this skirt, which I could wear with a black cropped shirt (the skirt sits high enough that I won't show my tummy)!

www.monki.com/en_gbp/clothing/skirts/midi-skirts/product.satin-wrap-midi-skirt-black.0988948002.html

Again, I like it - I am sure plenty don't! But is it suitable do you think or maybe A Bit Much?

I love these! However, looking at the reviews, the black ones seem to be total lint magnets. I am not sure I want to be lint rolling all the time to get them to look nice.

My favourite boiler suit is a print one which I don't think is suitable. It is a bit much I think...hang on will see if I can link

Oh we are going to Kricket

OP posts:
AntiCornLawLeague · 21/11/2021 11:27

It's similar to this one...May actually be this one.

lucyandyak.com/products/carmen-boilersuit-in-floral-michelle-parascandolo?variant=32423815676007

The other one I have is the Juni one, that mary linked, but it's denim? And sort of fadey denim, not sleek. Think that would be too casual?

AtillatheHun · 21/11/2021 11:29

The skirt is perfect - the jumpsuit is for the beach.

Ah thank you Flowers! Can't get better than perfect.

Kricket is great!

All and any of those outfits would be fine. Not sure how you would winter-proof the Whistles one.

Smorgasborb · 21/11/2021 11:33

If you are going to Soho then the boiler suit is much more appropriate! If you are going to Kricket then the boiler suit is definitely on par!

Remember it's media heartland so funky and interesting is standard!

The jumpsuit is a little 'Dorothy Perkins' sorry.

Ooooooooo! Really? If I can wear my boiler suit, I will be very happy. It suits me.

I would wear with a brown cord coat with a Teddy collar and maybe Mary Janes or clogs. Boots with a block heel maybe?

Boilersuit is completely fine in trendy parts of London, like it, don't like the first one you linked to anyway and will be draughty round the ankles! See, I just saved you loads of money!

Lovinglife45 · 21/11/2021 11:42

This jumpsuit looks too summery, thin and casual for your occasion. I am wondering what coat and boots would compliment this.

Do you have a long sleeve jumpsuit?
Or a different outfit entirely?

Luredbyapomegranate · 21/11/2021 11:46

I love Kricket…

Jump suit is perfect. Anything would be fine - people wear trainers and jeans to biker jackets abs mins to smart work stuff to cocktail dresses. No one cares. The first one would be cold tho..

If trainers are OK , I'm definitely wearing them with the boiler suit.
