Can I wear this for dinner and drinks in Soho?

I've just bought this:

www.johnlewis.com/whistles-lattice-print-quinn-jumpsuit-blue/p4989221?size=18

I have dinner and drinks with friends booked in Soho. I know London isn't dressy, but is this a bit too casual...? We aren't going clubbing or anything.

Do you think I can dress this up for nice curry place and maybe a bar?

So happy with the boiler suit love! I thought it was a bit of an acquired taste really. But then, I'm not in London anymore, so maybe I just see less varied fashion! A lot of country attire round here.

I LOVE the skirt you posted - if it wasnt sold out I'd be ordering one.

AntiCornLawLeague · 21/11/2021 21:45

Ah thanks @WildStallyn! I like your username Grin. Loved those movies.

Like others - I like the boiler suit and skirt a lot. Not so sure about the Whistles jumpsuit.

Enjoy!

HermioneWeasley · 21/11/2021 21:53

First jumpsuit it terrible

The Lucy and Yak stuff is great. Soho is very trendy and London remains v casual.

StarlightLady · 22/11/2021 07:59

Personally, l avoid anything that makes going for a wee hard work and needing a virtual strip off. There are few things worse than sitting on the pot half naked in November/December.

AntiCornLawLeague · 22/11/2021 08:39

Yes, i think weeing would be an issue in the Whistles one... I can wear a top under the boiler suit, but couldn't understand the first one. I still like it, but more for summer.

How can you say "London isn't dressy"? Depends where you go and what the occasion and code is, same as anywhere.

On average, London is less dressy. People do not get dolled up for nights out in the same way. Heels aren't as popular.

Go on a Saturday night out in Liverpool, Manchester or Newcastle and then go on a Saturday night out in London - London really isn't dressy!

Aw, man, I love the boiled suit and the skirt - you have great taste, OP!

Heels aren’t fashionable in London at present. It’s all about chunky / platform/ DM boots.

Plus people tend to go out straight from work rather than go home first, and Londoners tend to walk a lot and use public transport so heels are less practical and clothing needs to be suitable.

Smart, interesting, fashionable, comfortable…. dressy for formal or v high end nights out.

Love the boiler suit, did you know Melissa McCarthy was seen wearing the same one?

With trainers sounds perfect, also love the Monki skirt

To the people saying it’s too summery! I’m
Sure OP will be wearing a coat over the top & it’s warm inside restaurants and bars!

It’s soho anything goes… you’ll look lovely in it I’m sure. Don’t second guess yourself and have a lovely evening 🍹

Oftenithinkaboutit · 23/11/2021 12:50

Best thing about London
(Well, so much)
Is that you can wear anything, absolutely anything, and if you ever possibly receive a quizzical look or smirk from someone - just know that they’re a visitor and not a Londoner.

As for the jumpsuit…. I’d say you’d probably feel more comfy in something less summery simply because it’s bloomin chilly atm

I was in soho last week Loads of bars and restaurants sitting outside Fine if under a heater but we weren’t!
If you love your outfit, you don’t want to hide it beneath your coat

So I made sure an outfit I loved that was also warm. Hate eating and drinking with my winter coat on!

I've worked in Soho for the best part of 2 decades. YOU CAN WEAR ANYTHING. I've been at film premiere after-parties at the Groucho with people in tshirts and jeans AND black tie. I've bought breakfast at Dean St Tesco Metro alongside fully done up drag queens. The only thing I would emphasise is be travel & weather appropriate - the people that stand out tend to be the out of towners in little dresses and heels, clacking up Tottenham Court Road tube station into the wind.

Love the jumpsuits - perfect.

Oftenithinkaboutit · 23/11/2021 13:07

Gotta love ‘em though
Usually a hen party. No idea where they’re going, just heading “to the centre”!

FKATondelayo · 23/11/2021 13:09

They always look like they're having fun - cold and bleeding toes be damned.

AntiCornLawLeague · 23/11/2021 13:13

Hehehe my wee tottering heels on a cold night days are loooooong behind me, so no danger of that Grin

OP posts:
AntiCornLawLeague · 25/11/2021 16:05

I'm back with a pic of me in my boilersuit. It's quite a roomy fit on me... do you think it needs a belt? I'm leaning towards no belt and then putting something warm underneath for the walk from station etc.

Thinking either white Adidas trainers and long, navy wool coat or possibly black leather lace up boots.

Do I like it? No

Will it be absolutely fine for cocktails in soho? Absolutely

You like it?

I haven't collected the Whistles one and I might let it go back to the store tbh! The more I look at it, the less 'me' I think it is...

@AntiCornLawLeague I’m a big Lucy and Yak fan - I wear their dungarees every day like some sort of crazy person. I’m also tall and I never thought the boilersuits would fit! How tall are you? I’m 6ft which is more verging on the very tall I suppose! Thanks!
