Just tried on some old dresses I had lying around, and glad I did, because realised nothing fits me!

So what are you wearing to your works Xmas parties? Looking for inspiration...

I am glad I found this thread!
Does it look ok? Dinner at a local restaurant. I will not go for drinks.

MushMonster · 16/11/2021 18:22

Oi do love the black wrap around OP! It looks gorgeous! As you say, shopping online is always a thrill, wait and see if it looks like the picture!

Merftastic · 16/11/2021 18:46

I tried this dress on and it really suits me so I'm going with it I think.

Struggling on the shoes though - my work nights out are pretty casual so I was thinking Chelsea boots and some sheerish tights.

Can anyone suggest a 'dressier' shoe/boot? I can do a small heel.

@Drywhitefruitycidergin I can never get links to work, but if you look on my previous posts for the one where I’m moaning about being short but not skinny, there’s some linked in there. I ordered a lovely one from Pretty Kitty, but the proportions were all wrong on me. The one I kept is from Sosander.

Tomthumbsbigbum · 16/11/2021 19:33

For those that will be wearing dresses with black tights, what are you wearing on your feet? I can't find my old faithful black party shoes anywhere so think I'm going to have to buy some new shoes.

Pyewackect · 16/11/2021 19:35

LBD I got from M&S last year.

gunnersgold · 16/11/2021 20:29

@Merftastic I have boots like these in leather . I'd wear them with that dress with black tights . Very leg lengthening !

Bebethany · 16/11/2021 21:00

@ Littleguggi I’ve just discovered Nancy Mac clothes oh yum yum, have a look at the Teal velvet jumpsuit, that’s the one I’ve ordered!!

Littleguggi · 16/11/2021 21:32

@MushMonster I love the colour but not sure about the length for a dinner, it's very ball gown like, for me personally anyway. I've always been intrigued by the website, have you ordered from there before and is it any good?

@Merftastic beautiful dress and looks very flattering, I would probably wear black chunky heeled ankle boots with that.

@Tomthumbsbigbum I don't plan to wear tights but if I did, I would probably wear my trusty New Look boots which are black suede with a chunky heel.

@Bebethany wow I've just looked at the clothes and they are beautiful, I especially love the silk velvet blazers! The jumpsuits look like they would swamp me at 5ft 1. How lucky you've placed an order with them, you'll have to report back on the quality and fit once it arrives!

Bebethany · 16/11/2021 21:34

Definitely, I think if you speak to them, they are 3 sisters, they will do the length to order x

Littleguggi · 16/11/2021 21:38

Really tempting but way out of my budget unfortunately especially for this time of year with all the expense of Christmas

I’m wearing this, it’s 2 years old but I’ve hardly been anywhere to wear it. It hides more lumps than I expected, this is not me obvs it’s stock photos.

Jumpsuits are very popular on here, but I'm not sure how practical they will be at a boozy night out when you need the loo.

Littleguggi · 16/11/2021 22:46

So update..

Tried to order a couple of dresses from Next but their website is absolute sh* so gave up and ordered these from Silk Fred

www.silkfred.com/womens/clothing/dresses/fs-collection/black-knit-top-2-in-1-forest-green-midaxi-slip-dress

www.silkfred.com/womens/clothing/dresses/angeleye/velvet-wrap-midi-dress-in-emerald-green

www.silkfred.com/womens/clothing/dresses/john-zack/black-long-sleeve-tie-side-midi-wrap-dress

Just hope one of them is decent enough!

Littleguggi · 16/11/2021 22:48

@RampantIvy haha yes good point about jumpsuits, reminds me when I wore one a couple of years ago, I had to get my colleague to help unzip me in the toilet cubicle, a colleague who I barely knew!

Should I wear this?

hire.girlmeetsdress.com/products/zarita-lace-long-dress-navy

or this:

hire.girlmeetsdress.com/collections/cocktail-dresses/products/camelot-dress-white-tweed

I want to rent a dress this year as i don't want to buy new dresses every year and while i do re-wear my current party dresses, the occasions I have are few and far between. for example, my £80 jenny packham dress has only been worn for 2 weddings so far.

Littleguggi · 16/11/2021 23:00

@onlychildhamster wow what a great idea to hire a dress, I wish I'd thought of this before! I like both but prefer the white tweed dress as it can be personalised with accessories and maybe statement shoes, I love the shape too! I am no expert though in s&b!!

OP posts:
WinoAnon · 16/11/2021 23:10

@Merftastic I love that dress but don't recognize the site, would you mind saying where you've got it from?

It's been so long since I've been out. I don't want to wear opaque tights, it's what I wear in the day. Are low denier tights a bit dated? I'm clueless!

onlychildhamster · 16/11/2021 23:11

@Littleguggi I like the white dress but is it dressy enough? I am not an accessory person, would probably be pairing it with a senreve black clutch (with the chain) www.lmentsofstyle.com/blogfeed/the-art-of-versatility-senreve-envelope-clutch-styled-3-ways and blue glitter heels.

Teddansononmyown · 16/11/2021 23:13

Absolutely don't want to hijack the thread but I'm desperate!
Started new job and going to Xmas night out. Problem is I'm having quite a few health issues which mean I've hpt significant belly bloat. Its all in my uterus and lower belly so none of my clothes zip up.
I need a dress. One that is short (I'm 5'1) and probably empire waist to hide my (not a baby) bump. I'm usually a 10 on top, 12 on bottom but I'd say right now my bottom half varies between a 14-20, depending on the day.
Any ideas? Can't do jumpsuits as I'm the wrong shape, can't do trousers as can't do them up....
I like darker colours.
If anyone has any ideas, I'd be so grateful. I'm dreading my first impression being horrific.

Littleguggi · 16/11/2021 23:18

@onlychildhamster I get what you mean, if the white dress had some shimmer woven into it, it would be perfect. Or if you could accessorize with statement earrings or a beaded collar it would make it more dressy.

Littleguggi · 16/11/2021 23:23

@Teddansononmyown ahh bless you, what about a peplum style? Maybe a peplum top as you're a different size on top and an elasticated skirt? Or a smock style dress? Follow Lottie Drynan on Instagram, she shares lots of bloat friendly clothing options!

what do you think?

Mumsnut · 17/11/2021 12:33

This blazer with straight black jeans and either a t shirt or a silk shell. We're just having lunch at a posh-ish restaurant.
