You all must be really glam whose taking me shopping!? I look at stuff in the shops and talk myself out of them or get fed up at looking.

Pheebs2021 · 28/10/2021 20:00

@Judystilldreamsofhorses
Your cat looks as if to say another dress!? You could buy me tuna instead.

AppleFairy · 29/10/2021 06:00

@Judystilldreamsofhorses I like it on you!

shopafrolic · 29/10/2021 12:53

Who was after a blazer?

DryWhiteagainW · 29/10/2021 20:41

Judy nice dress

DryWhiteagainW · 29/10/2021 20:42

Pheebs what’s your style?

Summa I’m very interested in what you think of Polene. I’ve been lusting after one of their bags but it’s over £300 and a risk for a brand I’ve never seen

DryWhiteagainW · 29/10/2021 20:45

I’m excited. I bought myself a tan biker ish jacket from Massimo Dutti at the beginning of the year. The colour and style are perfect for me but it’s never been just right....I think it’s the sleeve length. Anyway today I found a fantastic woman who miraculously can shorten the sleeves even though thy have zips on them. A good alteration person is worth their weight in gold

DryWhiteagainW · 29/10/2021 20:51

And.....my latest foray down the maintainable route, electrolysis.
So far I’ve tried/do:
Waxing
Botox (gave up during covid)
Teeth whitening (incredible)

This week I decided to get rid of those pesky coarse hairs that appear on my face from time to time and I’m going to pass on what the beautician told me.
It isn’t immediate....can take up to 2 year regular treatments to work.
Plucking is BAD because hairs come back coarser Shock put away the tweezermans Sad. Magnifying mirrors are evil, esp the one I have with a ring light.
Anyway I’m sorting it out now so that I won’t be a bearded old lady many years down the line.

TMI? Grin

DryWhiteagainW · 29/10/2021 20:52

“Maintenance route”

shopafrolic · 29/10/2021 21:48

Good to hear the teeth whitening was a success @DryWhiteagainW I’m having a consultation in Jan

AnnieSnap · 29/10/2021 22:00

@DryWhiteagainW I am already a bearded old lady, but I’m cool with it. I pluck and use a Veet shavey thing!

Sharing what I’m wearing today because I’m in warmer climes 😀 Dress Wallis, flip flops Fitflop

Themarvellousmrsm · 30/10/2021 09:26

How lovely @AnnieSnap, enjoy. That's a great colour on you.

@Judystilldreamsofhorses lovely dress, but am really liking the look of the cardigan hanging beside you. Where is it from?

You have a great maintenance program going on there Dry -cannot ever imagine you as a bearded old lady!

Ive been having microdermabrasion and laser treatment for the worst of my sun spots. After Xmas having brows nano bladed. Am very envious of your lovely hair @shopafrolic, mine is at that really awkward stage and currently having a wobble over what to do.

Getting older involves a lot more maintenance than window dressing!

Fashion wise, nothing new to report except tried on and returned several boilersuits -usually they are all huge on me but I did find one that was a great fit but the buttons were so difficult to undo & do up & I really can't be arsed to wear something that takes that much effort plus going to,the bathroom would take an age

libertyonhertravels · 30/10/2021 10:18

@Judystilldreamsofhorses the dress looks lovely on you.

@Pheebs2021 I would describe the group here as stylish rather than all glam!! Some people do glam well, others have more relaxed style. What looks do you like and what outfits or looks feels most like you?

@shopafrolic what a fab compliment!

@DryWhiteagainW I could talk at length about chin hair Grin as I have struggled with it since my early 20's. I've tried everything from waxing, electrolysis (for years), threading, lasers and I have settled on a regular routine of spending 15 mins once a week with the magnifying mirror and tweezers!! I think the 'tweezers make it worse line' is BS peddled by the beauty industry who make a fortune out of getting us back week after week for treatments that make no difference. I have had some success with reduced hair with lazers on other parts of my body but not on my chin.

Pheebs2021 · 30/10/2021 10:23

I think I just use the word glam for stylish to be honest :-)

CarolineBringley · 30/10/2021 12:06

@Judystilldreamsofhorses love the dress!

@AnnieSnap love the holiday look, especially the long necklace. Envious of your warmer climes.

Who said the older you get the more it's about maintenance not window dressing. I laughed because it's so true!

And @libertyonhertravels yep, hearing you on the chin hairs. A tweezer session is exactly what I do. The least glamorous thing I do but at least it keeps the bearded old lady look at bayGrin

I bought a new French Connection top last week. Wore it with skinny black trousers and boots. Loved it!

SummaLuvin · 30/10/2021 12:21

@DryWhiteagainW I really like the Polene bag very happy with the quality, it is just as it looks online. I did a lot of reading reviews, and watching YouTube videos to get an idea of what it would be like, so I was fairly confident. But it was hard not getting the chance to see it in person, especially when they do multiple sizes, and colours don't always translate on pictures.

maradesbois · 30/10/2021 16:50

@SummaLuvin love The Secret History too and really like all those items, fab blazer and the shoes are so now. Are they comfy though?

@libertyonhertravels that’s a good question, I wish I did have a style muse but I don’t. There are loads of people I find stylish and admire but often it is from afar ie don’t want to copy their look but think is fab on them eg ysl style polished rock chick)
or Alexa Chung (herself not her fashion brand, not into celebrity labels). That said am also extremely susceptible to being influenced by marketing such as new in style edits from brands or websites I like and am a total sucker for a discount code.

@Stokey did you buy white trainers in the end? A looking for some but can’t decide. Still like the look of veja but put off by reports of being uncomfortable. Thinking of new balance maybe. Also feeling drawn to golden goose but that’s another price point and not my usual style.

Thank you @Themarvellousmrsm and @CarolineBringley 😀

DryWhiteagainW · 30/10/2021 20:29

Annie you look fab

Liberty didn’t the electrolysis work? (Rethinking investment)

Marvellous it is bloody expensive getting older.

Summa this is good to hear. I’m so tempted now

NeedWineNow · 30/10/2021 22:15

Hello all, I've missed you! Have had this yukky cold that's going round and lost track of my threads as I just couldn't seen to concentrate on anything.

For those asking about the Zara paperbag trousers I'm 5'6 and the come up just above my ankles. Fine with ballet flats or trainers but want to get some flat black lace up boots which I think will work.

The initial rush and excitement of the new store opening had died down a bit so I might pop in again this week. Went in Cos this week but wasn't very inspired. Got a couple of bits in the H&M sale but am waiting for a serious shop to get some boots.

libertyonhertravels · 30/10/2021 22:20

@DryWhiteagainW for me electrolysis was a complete waste of money. Didn't reduce the hairs, was sore and I got spots from it. Thinking about the amount of money I spent on it makes me really grumpy. I stuck with it for well over 2 years as I totally bought the 'it takes time' line.

libertyonhertravels · 30/10/2021 22:23

@maradesbois I am very like you in terms of what influences my shopping habits. On vejas, I bought some high tops and they did take a few wears to break in but are very comfortable now and I would buy more.

AnnieSnap · 31/10/2021 00:02

@DryWhiteagainW thank you 🙂

I had lots of electrolysis years ago. It does work after two or three years (😬), but it depends a lot on the person doing it. If they use too weak a current, it won’t work. If they use too strong a current, it can scar the skin (bit of a Goldie Locks situation). Also, as @libertyonhertravels said, you are red and sore after it and it can give you spots. 40 years ago, the notion of a woman having any facial hair, at any time, was horrific. Now, well, I wouldn’t choose to have that painful, expensive palaver now. I’d just use the non-permanent methods, or maybe lasering if the hair is fair.

DryWhiteagainW · 31/10/2021 08:34

Just read Mara’s comments about influences. I’m terrible and easily tempted by instagram. I have a tendency to try to copy style that isn’t me at all and then wasting my money....over the years, and with the help of you lovely people, I am getting better at sticking to my true style.

Totally confused about electrolysis now, seems a bit of an expensive gamble Confused

SummaLuvin · 31/10/2021 08:36

@maradesbois can't call if they loafers are comfy yet. I think they will be, but I have strangely shaped heels and almost without fail any new pair of shoes give me blisters on the first few wears.
