What age is Seasalt aimed at?

I went shopping for a coat today and the lady is my local boutique was trying to convince me that most school mums wear Seasalt coats and Seasalt is great for my needs (warm, stylish, waterproof).

She seemed abit put out when I mentioned I felt Seasalt were too old for me and I felt their target market is late 40s plus.

What age would you say Seasalt is aimed at?

I also like their face masks which are great

They are brilliant. They are well made and there is a choice of designs, which means as a glasses wearer I finally found some masks that don't steam them up.

Maybe drug dealers could disguise themselves by wearing Seasalt coats. Because they would look far too old to be mistaken for a drug dealer.

HeronLanyon · 10/10/2021 20:24

In my experience dealers over 50 are often higher up the chain. Often Mr Big But we now need a Mrs/ms big/Canada goose/north face/wearing sea salt masks analysis. Fear the sample will be very small. We may need several complex data graphics.

Overthinker19 · 10/10/2021 20:29

Judging by the model in the pic, 45/50+

DameMaureen · 10/10/2021 20:32

I think the 50 plus market who also like White Stuff.

NigellaSeed · 10/10/2021 20:34

I wouldn't buy crack from someone over 50 BlushBlush

Maireas · 10/10/2021 20:35

Good point, @RampantIvy. Perhaps the face masks could be worn as well, to add to the disguise?
I don't know, @HeronLanyon. Would a primary school teacher/Miss Hoolie/drug dealer wear a Seasalt jumper under a Northface jacket with a pair of Kooples trousers and M&S boots? Should we all carry our birth certificates around and show them on the threshold of certain shops?
I'm confused, but that could be my age.

As in cocaine?

Now that's definitely ageist 😉!
HeronLanyon · 10/10/2021 20:38

Having just ordered a white stuff coat - today - I feel the need to flounce out of here. I really wish there was a door slamming sound effect Grin

Maireas · 10/10/2021 20:42

Tell us the truth, HeronLanyon, did it come with a walking stick and a defibrillator?.

HeronLanyon · 10/10/2021 20:47

I’ll shove the walking stick where the sun doesn’t shine. (Oh is that an admission of some sort?).

I do admit I didn’t like the buttons and am going to change them to something YOUNG AND HIP AND COOL.

Maireas · 10/10/2021 20:51

😂😂😂

Glasses - Yes me too and the masks are comfortable.

I'm enjoying the turn that this thread has taken Grin

Tbh, I was only vaguely aware of the brand before S&B. I don't think there's one anywhere close to where I live, work and shop.
It's all a bit twee for me. Like White Stuff, I shy away from the colours and prints.
So I have no idea what age woman would wear it.

Mankyfruitbowl · 10/10/2021 21:15

Wow, I'm pretty surprised by posters saying they've actually stopped wearing garments because, gasp they've seen older women in the same thing.

I love fashion and style and am an unashamed people-watcher. I see stylish women of all ages and they make me feel really inspired.

I remember seeing a woman on the tube, probably in her seventies, wearing a chambray shirt from H&M that I also owned. I didn't think "OMG the shame! Must chuck it out immediately!", I was taking mental notes on how to style it as fabulously as she did.

I wonder why so many people automatically think younger = more stylish?

IComeInPeace · 10/10/2021 21:22

I think older people often liok better but its young people's need to clearly be a part of the young persons tribe

Astrabees · 10/10/2021 21:28

What utter tosh it is to say you wouldn't wear a coat just because someone a bit older than you is wearing one. Would you pay the same logic to other brands like Barbour, Chanel? Prada? I suspect not.

careerchangeperhaps · 10/10/2021 21:37

I've been buying their stuff since I was in my early-mid thirties.
Their raincoats are very good. Mine is 10 years old and looks almost as good as it did new.

I'm 50 and the model in the first pic wearing a seasalt coat looks mid 60's to me, at least compared to me and my friends, and in the second pic in the black trousers she looks mid 80's as she looks older than my DM who is late 70's.

Not that it matters but that's just my opinion on the matter. Are we all seeing these models as looking different ages, again, not that it matters, I'm just curious that's all.

HoneyDewMel · 10/10/2021 22:06

You sound like my DM.

Clearly that's what some people are thinking so who are you to say it's tosh just because it's not what you think.

TrainforSpeed · 10/10/2021 22:09

Well I've bought two scarves and a dress during the course of this thread Grin

sleepyhoglet · 10/10/2021 22:28

Clothing is weird. Looking at the latest Oliver Bonas offerings you would think their target audience is 60+. Frumpy cardigans and floral baggy dresses but all worn by 20s and 30s!

NiceGerbil · 10/10/2021 23:38

I just look around. Not all shops but a fair amount. Usually end up buying from the same ones. But I just buy what I like and suits me. No more complicated than that.

FinallyFluid · 10/10/2021 23:46

I am 57 and to use an expression my sister and I use a lot.

I wouldn't be seen laid out in it, never mind be seen wearing whilst breathing. Grin
